NOOOOO, I do more Dirt!!!
Its a toss up
I do more dirt
I never noticed the name of the trophy before. There's a throwback!
He looks like a pumpkin with a necktie.
the GREAT pumpkin.
I'm glad we could be a part in this, even if it was just a small part.
Perhaps a 30 point victory over OSU next year could do the same?
Where next will Pearl take Harbor? This is one those unseemly college basketball peculiarities. Who will hire Pearl next? Will Pitino or Tim Floyd, or Thad Matta or Calipari hire Pearl? Or does Pearl sit out a season and land a head coaching gig somewhere?
You have to be better than record setting losses in order to lie to the NCAA.
Was Pearl the only coach who lied to the NCAA and wasn't fired, or was it someone else who was the one that OSU hopes to add to?
it was a coach for a women's team. don't remember the school or sport. (yes, i'm aware how incredibly helpful that information is)
Thanks. It doesn't matter much; I just wanted to know if it was Pearl or not.
get a head coach fired
Destroy SEC team with coach on white hot seat
Said coach fired after team goes down to Michigan
Quod erat demonstrandum
since an SEC team got our coach fired.
OK. Now we're even-Steven. No more coaching carnage, K?
At least we were the ones blowing out a lame-duck coach in the postseason this time.
Too soon, still hurts to bring it up... Glad spring practices are here.
Just a case of Tressell without as many wins.
Bet if the Vols had gone to the Final Four, he would have continued to sing old Rocky Top.
Well, not exactly. Didn't Pearl eventually confess that he had recurits over at his house? I think he lied the first time and then confessed on his own later.
Tressel lied and only confessed the truth AFTER he got caught.
Pearl lied AND tried to bully those recruits into lying too, completely reprehensible. Also he created the illegal event in the first place.
I, too, am particularly proud of the boys in blue (watched all season, was in Crisler for the heartbreaker against Wisconsin), and am glad to think that Michigan's hand hammered the final nails into Pearl's coffin (especially after being on the other end of this kind of hammering against Mississippi State*). Here's a lihk, with a brief summary, to anyone intersted:

Slightly OT: Anyone think this same kind of reversal of support could take place between the OSU Athletic Department and Tressel between now and the final NCAA ruling?
*DISCLAIMER: By no means am I comparing Richrod's character with Pearl's or magnitude of their violations, only the sequence of: sanction--ambiguous AD on future between season and post-season--schelacking--firing
His wife made a statement that compared him to God. Anyone know?
... by this weekend, buyout in his board-shorts pocket, he'll be on a mother-f!*&king boat:
Elastic waistband callout.
... still paying off his first wife, who he threw under the boat to make room for Blondie. The Mother of His Four Children rolled some of the proceeds into "Alimony's Hair & Nail Salon'" in Knoxville.
Not the sort of thing you'd expect from John Beilein.
If we can't trust the chair of the Ethics Committee, we can't trust anyone. (That said, I hope that history does not prove me wrong on this point WRT Coach Beilen's tenure at Michigan. But I don't think it will.)
I thought Pearl bravely confessed to having the recruits at his house after he was shown a picture of him and the recruits at his house?
Pearl gots game....musta took Kiffin's "Hostess" idea after he left.
Even if the NCAA is willing to sacrifice its shreds of remaining credibility for OSU/Tressel (it's not), are you willing to allow one coach/school to drag the B1G below SEC level in one fell swoop? Are the other B1G university presidents/ADs?
Considering Delaney aided Tressel and OSU in the fight to let the players play in the Sugar bowl, my guess would be that if the NCAA takes little action against Tressel neither will Delaney.
The NCAA makes itself obsolete if they don't, and the B1G presidents lose their superior moral high ground in relation to the SEC.
In fact your argument only proves the point - Tressel made both the NCAA and the B1G/Delany look foolish. They stuck their necks out and should be furious. Even if they're not, this is a Lie to big to let sit.
Sooner or later they'll realize OSU will still be a moneymaker without Tressel, and he's not worth the damage he's causing. He'll be allowed to resign before the season.
Delany is such a tool. He didn't need Tressel to make him look foolish. He and Gene Smith desperately looked for a loophole in the rules so those OSU players could play in the Sugar Bowl. He didn't give a crap about honor or playing by the rules.
If anything, Delany will act just like OSU did with the whole Maurice Clarrett thing. Just sweep it under the rug and move on.
Close enough!!!
Not Thee Black Pearl!
Pearl needed to go, but how big of an idiot is the AD that basically stated that he was going to fire him after the tournament? What kind of guy makes a public statement that the coach is likely done before the beginning of the NCAA Tournament? What an a--hat. He should be fired too, for being an idiot.
The same asshat who will also be looking for a new gig in a few weeks.
the same asshat the hired him ... ?
and hired Lane Kiffen...
Considering people on the Vols message board were dismissing him for his "Jew tears", this might not be the worst thing for his career. He'll get another chance somewhere, and I think he'll be more judicious (if not more ethical) about his recruiting. He's a good coach and his teams usually play well - if Calipari and Samson receive multiple chances, so will Pearl.
He won half the school's all time NCAA tourney wins in just 6 years. The guy can coach, motivate, and excite a fan base. It's really sad. He made a bad mistake lying about picayunish secondary violation, and he couldn't recover.
He'll be back coaching. If I had program that I wanted to jump start from years of nothingness, I'd look at the guy. He would win and he would do it clean more likely than not. Until this, he had a clean history and Tennessee was junk before he got there. Not saying there isn't risks, but on balance he's worth another shot.
In basically 1 year, he goes from a point or two from the final 4 to this. Unreal.
Will now be running Tennessee Football and Basketball programs. During the two year reorganization they will be addressed as the Tennessee Expos.
How do you fire a guy who's not even working under contract??? It's like that Seinfeld episode when Kramer gets let go.
"We have to let you go."
"I don't even work here."
"I know, that's what makes this so hard."
