Legit competiton

UCA and NCA are the two established competitions for collegiate cheer.  UCA is arguably stronger depending on preference, but they are both legit, run by the same company, and some schools chose participation based on the academic calender (UCA nationals is in January.)  The criticism, as I understand it, is that Michigan competes in the Intermediate division with skill restrictions that puts them in a lower tier than other IA teams, ostensibly for safety concerns but I don't know the factors/rationale.  Agree with other posters that it would be helpful to reconsider going forward.

In the

stadium I definitely saw some glistening in his eyes on the jumbotron right before he spoke.  The video and crowd were amazing and it was a special moment.  The only part I thought was awkward was when he thanked Mr. Brandon and people kind of booed.  I think he was a little taken aback by that but overall it was really touching and heartfelt.  It wouldn't surprise me if they had him go out there by himself to draw attention to his celebrity.  Regardless, he looked very distinguished walking out- very impressive!

Looking for

1 ticket.  How much are you asking?

Mainly it's

just for sponsorships and they tour occasionally, such as after the Olympics.  The Pro Gymnastics Challenge was started this year, but it's sort of more like one of those ice skating exhibitions rather than a pro tournament in golf or tennis or pretty much any other sport.

Team Sam

Stacey and Adrian each had a routine featured on Friday (Day 1 of the competition), where again it was the Sam show.  Great promotion and PR for UM because it was obvious these guys were having so much more fun than the elite gymnasts and most of the other collegiates as well.  Stacey and Sam seem to have a  "Denard and Roundtree in the Crisler stands" kind of vibe about them.  Will be great to follow them at Worlds in October.

UTL currently on BTN

Just a public service announcement because I stumbled upon UTL currently on BTN with 8 min left.  How can it be this exciting even though I know what happens?

p.s. Heiko you crack me up.

This has

nothing to do with anything but I just called a banking company and a pleasant southern sounding woman transferred me to specialist Michael Cox.  I could barely stiffle a giggle, or make it through my message when his voice mail said Mike Cox.  Of course, I had to immediately log in and tell all of you.

Cool story sis=)

The event

I attended had ample time for Q & A after the coaches spoke.  Dave Brandon fielded most of the questions, so address any sport-specific inquiries to the coach himself.  You can also take a picture/ask a question prior to the presentation.  Just be very aware when they arrive and jump in line quick.  Each coach had an informal group waiting around them and interestingly, I'd say Red was the most popular, or maybe he just took more time to speak substantively with each person.

I heard

he is actually pretty raw. Uncured, anyway.

Look, no

doubt he was over-thinking himself in the second half.  But, hopefully by learning from it he's now set up the residual effect--many more wins in the years to come.  Glad our coaches are super smart and humble.

My takeaway is that this piece is great for recruiting.  I would suit up for this guy.

Thanks, Heiko, for making recovery from dental surgery a little more enjoyable this afternoon.    Of course the bubble screen interlude made me laugh, well ok drool.  So glad you are a Michigan man.

So amazing

and I haven't even read this yet.  I feel like I need to savor it over a bottle of wine or one of the fancy beers you guys are always talking about.  Way to go Heiko

I think

perhaps I'm on mgoblog too much when my reaction while opening this post was "Oooh I hope it's the one with the vagina."

Actually it's

entirely possible that Sam will come back next year and then stick around for another 2 in order to prepare for the 2016 Olympics.  In men's gymnastics it's common for guys to train with their college teams in between Olympic quads.  He could train elsewhere (Olympic Training Center, etc.) but given his close relationship with coach Kurt Golder, you may just see him around Ann Arbor for a while longer.

I met

Trey's grandparents after the game Monday night.  They were lovely and seemed more grateful than disappointed.  They said they were possibly a bit relieved it was over because he leaves everything on the court and they didn't want him to get hurt.  Commence wild speculation from my cool story sis...

yep, and

I lost some respect after that mid-court hand smacking altercation.  Not nice.

Sorry guys

I won't back down.  Not after all the Kate Upton around here.

DG is like Taye Diggs, only hotter.

/Fred Jackson'd

Thanks MGV

He is too cute.

Disagree re: toughness

They made some clutch shots to stay in it when Indiana went all Zeller-palooza.  No getting around it, our size doesn't quite match up.  With foul trouble, I have to think so many substitutions on our Bigs has to throw off the rhythm.  No excuses, the game was ours for the taking. Young team, will learn, etc.

middle right

Can I get  "F*ck yeah?" from the white M headband guy?  yes, yes I can.

Agreed, but it's possible

They may be aware of the risk but just don't think their student would be subject to it.  No one wants to think their kid/player would be in the bottom few spots.

Pretty sure

NTI is fine with a quick in-and-out involving Kate Upton...

I'd comment

on your McGary snowflake Blaze but ruining tailgates keeps me so busy. /s

Field passes?

In the Fitz picture above you can see several well-heeled fans on the field loitering at the wall.  At Homecoming this year, I was chatting with one such bystander and wondered how she got her field pass.  She said it was a birthday gift.  I guess I'm behind the times because I'm not a season ticket holder, so maybe this is common knowledge, but I didn't realize field passes were "for sale?"

Maybe I'm just eating a bitter sandwich because the alumni cheer field pass allowance was cut in half the past two years, but I thought passes were limited to recruits, press, honored guests, etc.  Even the non-revenue championship winning sports teams are generally escorted out after pre-game.  Not trying to start a Brandon bashing post, and the concourse level is an impressive venue for donors, but at the very least it seems like a liability to have more people on the sidelines.

/end rant

Clearly Cop # 2 went

to Northwestern.

Lewan=Hoke

I never realized how much Lewan is like a min-Hoke in these pressers: vague, resolute, team-focused, with equal parts disdain and playfulness toward the media=)

DG's humility and confidence

"This is Denard's team." "I can't judge you guys for not knowing (my ability)." How can you not love this kid?!

For me

the effect of this post was probably contradictory to your intent.  Instead of sharing in your joy, I  respected the articulate, rational, and justifiable disappointment of the NW fans.  The vocabulary alone separates them from other fan bases=) Just my 2 cents. (Had a viceral reaction to the jumping by Fitzgerald, but he's young and will hopefully learn from it.)

Can't wait

for the pressers.

Second effort

I love that much of DG's second effort on the rushing touchdown is Elliott Mealer manhandling him across the goal line.

They are all extremely poised...

...but man DG is smooth.  He's the Kate Upton for us MGoGals.

Not exactly a field rush, but

Is there any video of the guy who ran onto the field this year at the Illinois game (Homecoming)? He pretty much went unnoticed waving his hands down the Michigan sideline until one of our players looked up, shot him a look of disdain, and body-checked him with barely a raised elbow. It was hilarious. SIAP (Sorry also if that guy is one of you=)

Thanks C of DL

for the prompt posting. I had to leave at the half for a wedding (so rude) and it was great to watch highlights champagne-infused late night. It being the morning after and all, I just wanted to say thanks for getting it up so quick.

maybe I am

in fact, you should probably stop communicating with me.  #tocatchapredator

might want to resend your memo to Martavius Odoms though

#

#don'tbesobossy

wow that was quick

pretty sure I blinked and missed Meyer and Dantonio greet each other at midfield.  #sportsmanship.  (pre-emptive that's what she said)

Love that

the celebrity guest picker in East Lansing is...Desmond.

...by then

Hoke would be really, really hungry.

Food?

Whatever happened to bribing students with food?  Isn't that how most campus organizations get people to attend meetings and stuff?  I'm sure I went to some dorm thing for free Stucchi's.  Give out pizza a half hour before the game.  Get off my lawn and all, but to me paying students a cash incentive is tacky.

Not sure what this says about

Not sure what this says about me, but I think it's fun to be passed up the stands.  In fact, I  jumped into a crowd of unsuspecting undergrads at Northwestern this year.  Friendly gate attendant's response:  "That looks like fun."  Gotta love Evanston!

sounds good

as long as they keep letting the bewbs pictures slide. I know I for one enjoyed them=)

MGoFundraiser-Chicago

Hi Guys- Sorry for the thread jacking, but I have been wanting to do a fundraiser in Chicago for MGoBlog for a while now and thought I'd toss it out.  Probably a happy hour drinks package with a portion to MGoBlog.  Think we can round up enough Chicagoans to make this worthwhile?  Later in the summer likely makes the most sense, possibly the week before Bama as a pre-season kick-off.  Could be fun!
