1 year 21 weeks ago	Northwestern to UA	This is slightly off topic, but as I don't have thread starting privileges this thread is most relevant. Northwestner signed with Under Armour, so look forward to awful jerseys for years to come. What struck me most was the quote from NW's AD: "It will enhance our recruiting in all 19 of our sports." Is this based on fact at all? I'd be curious to see before & after results with recruiting based on uniforms. In my mind, you may get a quick mention extra mention in the media the first time you have some crazy jerseys, but does that really translate to anything other than everyone thinking you have ridiculous looking jerseys? I doubt it, but then again I haven't analyzed it statistically at all.

Even the Heisman has no criteria for how to vote, so it's all based on opinion, PR, location, etc. Granted, I think it's fine this way, at least better than letting the BCS computers decide awards, but it will lead to "controversy" at times.

Why can't schools be subtle with their uniforms? We added the little 'M' to ours on the neck - nice and subtle, but still a change. I would hate to see what Nike would try to do to us if they still had us...Maybe brown fur on the back to simulate an actual wolverine?

Let's be forward looking! Every paper has its fault, including the big ones (NYT and its blatant liberal propoganda, etc.).  I agree that Sharp is horrible but at least he offers an individual opinion (as ridiculous as it may be/usually is) but about 1/10 times he actually spits out something worthwhile.

Discovered this last night, never really used the ESPN3 functionality until now, but now that I cancelled cable, I have to resort to this for my sports needs.

2 years 17 weeks ago	I mean this script is cool	I mean this script is cool and I will try it and use it to an extent all people need to chill out and realize that people can have differing opinions. I agree that people being negative for the sake of being negative, without even adding anything to conversation, are useless (I think these are called "haters" or "Drew Sharps" ). Whatever happened to the simple 3 step conversation: Listen-Analyze-Respond.  All of society has become so scared to listen to opinions other than their own. It's now officially a sin for a democrat to watch Fox News or  a Republican watch MSNBC. Whatever happened to healthy debate that doesn't automatically become a flamewar or people posting pictures of cats eating hamburgers or whatever.

The same people complaining about his sub .500 record are the ones who poo-pooed Rich's losing record, attributing it to the empty cupboard, etc. No cupboard was more empty than Ball St.  I'm sure if he's hired there will be people at the airport chanting "we don't want you" - just as there were when Chizik was hired. I'm not saying he will/should be hired, but it is a solid hire if they go that route.
2 years 19 weeks ago	I think that has already been	I think that has already been tried when the Tigers thought it would be a good idea to put Trammel as manager, Parrish at third, Gibby as a bench coach, etc. I like the idea of a "Michigan Man" but strictly from the perspective that they "get" the program and understand it and respect it. Any outsider can quickly get to this point with some effort.

I have seen so many better and different division names on this board alone, you'd think a marketing agency could come up with someone solid.   As for someone mentioning a Mich-Neb trophy game - this has to happen.  I think we should play for the other '97 National Championship Trophy - it would instantly be the coolest trophy game around.

2 years 31 weeks ago	Unfortunate	Well, sadly this one went how I expected.  I was hopeful going into this one, but had a very strong suspicion we would get outplayed like we did today.  It sucks because it's Michigan State and we have to deal with their fans for a few days, but we are still 5-1. We now need to put this one behind us and not let the bottom fall out of this season.  The only win I am confident in is at Purdue.  Beyond that, anything can happen.  Iowa can go either way and OSU will destroy us.  Wisco and Illinois I am still unsure about.  Overall, this can still be a solid season, provided we can win 2-3 of our remaining games. Talk agains RR is way premature now. Just as 1 big win can't define a coach, neither can 1 bad loss (speaking only of this season).  How we respond the rest of the way will be more telling of RR than just 1 off-game. Go Blue!

2 years 48 weeks ago	That logo is alright, but it	That logo is alright, but it strikes me as being too obvious, too "leet-speaky" for me.  I like the current logo, as the 11 is subtle , sort of clever even.  Instead, I think we take a different tack.  16 teams isn't merely a "Big" conference, but more of a "Mega" conference.  So they might as well go the high school naming route and just make it the Mega-16.

I don't think anything we say or do can get Drew to realize what a douche he is though. I seriously want to get a dozen people and just follow him around all day with camera, etc. give him the whole paparazzi treatment. I don't really know what that has to do with anything, but it seems like a good way to annoy someone and hopefully make him snap.

How big is this sample size, what's the confidence interval, etc. An average alone is not necessarily statistically significant. Moreover, (and this is from a comment I read elsewhere), a more telling stat is 2 pt conversion success, not the entire population of all 4th and 2 chances ever. This percentage is, in fact, lower. You can't always simply things like this down to a decision tree like you did, you need to question the validity of the stats you are using to make your argument. There are a million factors in play here and most aren't taken into account here. Also you can't just assume that Belichek is risk-neutral, which you also do.

Considering they gave it so much time, however, leads me to believe that the right call was made. Perhaps they have additional angles to look at? Or perhaps by viewing a certain combination of angles simultaneously, the indisputable result can be achieved. At any rate, it is what it is. The officials did not cost us this one, regardless of that play.
3 years 36 weeks ago	I think the music is fine.	I think the music is fine. The band is hard to hear (and IMO much more so since they moved the band to the student section). The atmosphere has been steadily declining for a while (the ridiculous "you suck" part of the song after 3rd down stops, not to mention the fact that somehow the "stop the chop" movement from the 99 or 2000 actually took hold. It seems pretty universal that people can't hear the band - is this just due to the architecture of the stadium, or are bands at other schools just situated in better locations? Perhaps in an endzone they would be more audible?

Rich probably used it as encouragment in his halftime speech anyway "Did you f--kfaces here that? They are booing you f--ks! Get out there and try, don't let go of the f--king ball and make those f--kers in the stand cheer when the final whistle blows." I can't come close to capturing Rich's use of the F-word though unfortunatly - it is legendary, but the point is don't get your panties all in a bunch about booing.
4 years 34 weeks ago	yea	Yeah, I had the distinct pleasure of living next door to Dave and Todd Howard my freshmen year.  In addition to bomb-ass dick, my personal favorite incident from that room was when Larry Foote was in the room and some girl was knocking on the door..the conversation went something like this before she was let in  girl "let me in!" Larry "Say 'Foote has a big dick'" Girl (in a innocent tone) "Foote has a big dick" Larry "And I like to kiss it" Girl (gleefully) "And I like to kiss it!'   Ahh...memories
4 years 46 weeks ago	drunk driving ad	In Firefox 3, sometimes a page will load, then go away, with only an ad for some "think before you drive drunk" ad or something like that. It seems then to just stick there with no further content loading. If I click back and click stop at the right time I can prevent this from happening. Anyone else see this?
