The young man committed to Alabama because he could study engineering there and play championship football. Alabama happens to be listed in USNWR as a A+ school for B students.
It's not that Alabama sold him on their engineering program being better than our engineering program: just better than the other degree program Michigan was steering him to. (Personally, I would rather my son study engineering if I were his father.)
The time committed to playing football would make it very hard to compete with other engineering students at Michigan. We'll see if he really majors in engineering, but just maybe Alabama was the better choice for someone who wanted to be competitive in both an engineering degree program and one of the top D1 football programs.
The bigger issue is the competitive disadvantage this puts us at, in the very place we thought we had a competitive advantage. Alabama found a way to work around our "Global Degree" selling point. We lost.
Wish he went Blue, but we cannot fault the guy for making a reasonable choice.

loses all these key players, while all our 5 star redshirt frosh are back as rs sophomores. OSU and MSU can't possibly have as good a set of backfills as the ones we have for Lewan, Schofield, Gallon, Q, et al. With our latest, greatest youngsters we're going to dominate!
Guys, 2014 is the year! I just know it ..... /S
Maybe a run at the B1G in 2015, but not nationally relevant until at least 2016 in my view.
|4 days 11 hours ago||Damned thos3||
|4 days 14 hours ago||I think we proved OSU||
is overrated and MSU signed the proclamation.
|6 days 5 hours ago||Congrats to my frat big bro||
and his son. Awesome and Go Blue!
|6 days 10 hours ago||Hey fellow Michigan Fans in NC||
Ohio State has us beat 15 to10. Penn State as well. You need to go in and take this survey and set things right!
|1 week 14 hours ago||Hmm I like this||
|1 week 14 hours ago||Recruiting Threat Scale||
Meyer w/ an NC Game (even a loss) > Dantonio w/ a BTC and Rose Bowl win
Reason: national perception = State got lucky, OSU is back to dominating the B1G and competing for National Championships w/ and SEC coach.
We need State to shut Hyde and Miller down.
Why do I feel so queasy?
|1 week 1 day ago||Why?||
Because it is better to be all emo / glass half empty?
motley, some of us appreciate the laugh!
|1 week 2 days ago||I think publicly apologizing to Wolverines fans||
would stick in his craw enough.
|1 week 2 days ago||Eh - in a thread somewhere Mr. Smith suggested||
that a post football year of additional tuition (to pursue the degree or classes that were too challenging while playing) and health insurance for football related injuries / diasbilities would be what most players would like to see.
I could see that and the stipend as well. I also think the health insurance part should include assistance taking the muscle and weight back off in a healthy way.
On the other hand most of these guys do not go on to the NFL, and their prime opportunity for endorsement income, ect. is while they are playing in college. Much like Olympic atheletes - as long as it is above board and reported - I don't have a problem with them making money on their fame. (This especially over paying Al Borges more than his results are worth, not to mention paying for skywriting and additional "marketing" staff.)

Hall would be issuing a public appology to the fans he flipped off (funny how he has issued a social media appology to the Buckeye fans), and privately he'd be running steps for a few days.
Otherwise, ain't no big deal really. He had clearly lost his temper ... no one was hurt except maybe the bench and his foot.
I also think both Buckeyes in question should play against Michigan State. This really was a non-event that was handled on scene.
|1 week 3 days ago||Not sure which of the stubborn Borges ones to choose||
but I think:
Al Borges knows his job is on the line, and if the game goes down as expected (3 TD spread), he's gone. Even his boss' boss publicly released a statement calling out Hoke and Mattison (his peer) as staying but did not mention Borges.
So, much like the 2008 Cap One Bowl, Al broke out the play book and got creative to either a) save his job, or b) audition for the next one.
|1 week 3 days ago||Dynamic change:Man did all my Buckeye hatred come flooding back||
after that fight though. I went from "hmm, maybe we can play in this" - to - "Goddamned Buckeyes, let's kick their asses" in about ten seconds. It felt like the game is back, and we on.
|1 week 3 days ago||Hmmm - this is an interesting game within a game though||
another reason to watch the Big Ten Championship Game sponsored by Pepto Bismol.
So you're saying this is the game where MSU's mugging DBs get called left, right and center ....
|1 week 3 days ago||Yeah, they 1 upped us and won||
I would say that 2006 was more epic because of the 1/2 clash of titans nature. That said, the Buckeyes won both, and this year's would have been more epic if we won it.
|1 week 4 days ago||hmmm - Ohio spies||
are present around Schembechler hall. Maybe they are employing drones....
|1 week 4 days ago||Pipkins, Ross, Wilson out||
On of the other LBs playing hurt the last few weeks. JMFR cannot be 100% yet - especially speed-wise. Most of that showed in OSUs run game, and then there was poor Furman back there all by himself.
Wonder if they are having a pass defense catharsis over at 11 warriors.
|1 week 4 days ago||I hate that I can't||
get tickets to go to this game for a reasonable cost - so I hate Duke!
Congratulations to them in football though.
|1 week 4 days ago||wondering if there is some home and away correlation||
on that last chart? Do home games have shorter threads?
|1 week 4 days ago||Your last paragraph||
is totally why I am here.
Bring back the old moderation, and I think we get to a more civil board where this xan be accomplished.
|1 week 4 days ago||OK Francis||
take out the for free part of the comment and re-read it.
|1 week 4 days ago||Man are we missing Mr. Smith||
|1 week 4 days ago||Unless you take the 80000 foot view||
and expect the program to put the right AD, coaches, players, facilities, and other resources in place to beat Ohio and MSU in addition to ND, win Conference Championships, and compete for national ones on a regular basis.
Great companies perform well over time even with top management and key personnel changes. (e.g., the team that beat us yesterday).
|1 week 4 days ago||I'm wondering if he took||
heat for Hand going to Bama and now Peppers saying he's taking other officials in case.
I am guessing this site is an annoyance to the department because they can't control the content. I am also guessing Brians emo posts are being pointed to for keading masses and the fringe over the wall and thus at least fertilizing the Hoke may be fired rumors.
While there may be some truth to the fertilization theory, I don't want a slappy site. I was educated at Michigan and thus enjoy the Brian / Space Coyote debate. If we just had Space Coyote, my own inner debate would not be fed, and down here in NC there are not many others to debate it with.
|1 week 4 days ago||The ponts allow you||
to +1 great debate points and counterpoints and -1 the jerky-flamy types who resort to name calling because they disagree.
|1 week 4 days ago||I said on the live blog||
Why not go for points now AND when we get the first possession after the half?
This was in response to the announcer saying it was OK not to go for it because we get the first possession in the second half.
In the end, even a shot at a field goal would have had game winning implications.
|1 week 4 days ago||Well it was a lot more civil||
On the live blog yesterday. I'm guessing our "fuck" count is down this week, unless our positive "fuck" count is way up (e.g., "fuck yeah!"), because the team that played ND showed up.
However, if you think back to RR years, this board stayed civil because of self moderation. Anonymous people behaved like they were in in a public social situation, and the loud drunk uncles were reminded stearnly to behave and if they didn't were thrown out.
So, this was just a bad year for negging to go by the wayside.
|1 week 5 days ago||I thought the Clark call was BS||
but I am pretty sure OSU didn't score on that drive.
