Perfect Timing for Contract Extension

Submitted by Shakespeare on November 22nd, 2023 at 2:52 PM

I keep hoping and praying that the contract extension will be signed, sealed and delivered sometime in the next two days just to piss off all the Buckeye fans that wanted so badly for this to end Harbaugh, and further motivate the team (not that they need any more motivation).

But barring the extension being announced ASAP the absolute perfect scenario would be dropping that news right after a glorious victory this weekend as the salt in the proverbial wounds. I’m very thankful to have Jim Harbaugh as Michigan’s Head Coach. Here’s hoping for good news to come for all of us in the days ahead.

At this point it feels like there won't be a contract extension signed until the NCAA issues its findings and any potential penalties.  We keep hearing that an extension will be signed "any day now" and it never is.  I'll believe it when I see it.

So. I didn’t know this until today, but the firing of partridge makes this a level 1 offense no longer 2 or 3.  That means harbaugh could be suspended for a year.

im hearing rumors of a move to the bears is in play.  He would draft Jj and trade fields.

hoping this doesn’t happen, but this is taking its toll.

also, hearing Stapleton and warde have not been helpful. Stapleton particularly wants a specific type of coach.  Moore or Hart would be choices for him.

take it all in on Saturday- could be Jim’s last game in the big house.

hoping not, but more worried now that it could be.

There’s a reason this hasn’t happened yet despite virtually every “insider” saying one was going to happen any day now about a month ago.

I won’t even speculate what that reason might be but trust me, there’s a reason.

In my opinion I think the offer is on the table already and the hold up is on Harbaugh's side. I honestly think he doesn't know if wants to continue to keep dealing with this NCAA/Big Ten crap, he wants more from Michigan on NIL, and if you watched the presser Monday he clearly isn't happy about the Partridge firing. Also it's without question that his desire to win a Super Bowl will always be there. On the other hand, he loves Michigan, and part of him wants to coach here until he retires.

Really, what was he supposed to have said about Partridge's termination??

I'm sure he understands the reason behind it. Coaches aren't immune to departmental rules and regulations. CP is said to have not cooperated with an investigation, be it internal or external, in some material fashion. Assuming you are employed somewhere, I would not suggest that you do that at your place of employment.

Contract extension Monday would be perfect.

Insult to injury.

And if we lose, it basically says, "we would have won if we had you there, Coach"—as well as giving the middle finger to OSU and the B1G, which we would definitely feel like doing at that point.

I hope they are planning for it to be "inked" after the victory Saturday

50 yard line on Inside Michigan Football - the contract will be a tattoo and the artist formerly known as Jon Jansen will be doing the "inking"

It's not happening. Harbaugh probably already told Warde and Santa he's gone.

Why in the hell should he stay? NCAA is probably going to drop the hammer down on him and Warde will fold like a cheap chair, again.

Don't blame him at all.

Let's beat the shit out of Ohio State so we can win him one more B1G championship and a National Championship before he sails off into the sunset!

Neg away. Lol

Even though it seems like you're being an ass about it, I can't neg you because I agree with part of what you're saying. I don't think he's told Santa and Warde he's leaving but I believe he is considering his future. I think he knows this NCAA witch hunt is about him and not Michigan and I could see him leaving, not only for his personal desire to return to the NFL but also to spare Michigan from further sanctions. Remember, the University abruptly ended the lawsuit against the Big Ten at Harbaugh's request. I hate to speculate, but he may be grooming Moore for the job. Based on the timeline given by the insiders the contract should have been finalized by now. Right now I'd say it's a 50/50 chance he returns next season.

Honestly I didn't mean to come off as an ass, but re-reading what I typed, I can see how you thought that.

I just can't see in any way how Coach Harbaugh would want to continue on here.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just trying to have an open mind on this. And everything is pointing to him leaving after this season.

Again, hope I'm wrong!

I actually think what you just mention as reasons for him to leave are going to be the reasons that he stays. He loves this university more than anybody, and I have a tough time thinking that he wants his legacy here to be tainted in anyway by some witch hunt by the NCAA.

Hes a fighter, and something tells me, he is here for a while.

I could be wrong ofcourse, but thats just my 2 cents......ok, its my penny.

This is definitely a possibility given Jim's flirtations with the NFL in '21 and '22 and the looming NCAA investigation.

I would love him to stay given the need for stability for next season, but lots of things are pointing to "he might be gone". And I wouldn't blame him at all. I want to give the powers-that-be the double bird too.

That said, he needs to heed Eastwood's words in Heartbreak Ridge  -- "don't give the prick(s) the satisfaction"......

He's a top 4 coach who has taken his team to back to back Playoffs while also embarassing enemy #1 2 years in a row.

His team is 11-0 going into The Game again.

Dude should have had a contract extension 2 years ago.

What in the sam hell has been the problem with giving him a lifetime contract?????

He's gone after this year and I don't blame him.

Hope I'm wrong.

I don't get why so many insiders were basically certain Harbaugh's contract would be signed 'any day now' a few weeks ago and then it went silent.

Maybe the Partridge thing blew it up. Maybe they have an agreement in principle but decided its best not to announce at the moment. Still no implication Harbaugh knew or that it won't get signed eventually

Sources:  Everyone knows what Jim is doing or not doing but we are trying to keep this knowledge away  from a handful of MGoBLoggers.  If you dont know, you are one of the ones we are keeping this info from.

Trust me bro.

This would be the ultimate of ultimate moves for Coach Harbaugh and Santa to do.

As Ryan Day is walking the sidelines right before kickoff, the voice of James Earl Jones is heard throughout the speakers directing people to the video screens.

Cut to a prerecorded video of Harbaugh inking the extension with a huge grin on his face as the camera slowly zooms in to him saying "GO BLUE!!"

The only way they sign this contract this week is if Michigan loses Saturday. Otherwise, I think they wait until after the Big Ten championship game and the football playoff teams are announced

FrankMurphy

I don't think it's imminent like we've been led to believe. And I believe that Harbaugh is the one holding it up.

The optimistic take is that Harbaugh wants to come back but is holding off on agreeing to anything until after The Game because he's confident that he'll win and he wants to maximize his leverage.

The pessimistic take is that Harbaugh is jaded by all of this nonsense (can't blame him, really) and plans on returning to the NFL where coaches don't have to deal with this kind of bullshit.

Let's shoot for optimism. In the meantime, BEAT OHIO.

My hope is that Ono and Harbaugh have an understanding that a contract making Jim the highest paid in the league is nothing more than a formality. That it will be offered and hopefully signed sometime around the B1G championship game. That this new contract has a Sabin clause that maintains Jim’s status as highest paid should someone else signs a bigger contract in the league. It would be the biggest FU to the league, college football, ESPN talking heads, and rival fan bases. Go Blue! MICHIGAN vs EVERYONE!

I don’t think he signs one tbh. I think after the last month or so, the dude is probably done with college after this year and will be the Bears coach in short order.

And that’s fine - I wouldn’t blame him one ounce.
