Do Germans have words that…

Do Germans have words that express positive emotions?

And, being at both 1997 and 2021, 2021 was better for all of those reasons. I know we try to compare years, but 2021 was right there with 1969. I like to think that 2021 is this generations '69 game because it seems to have ushered in a new era just like that game did.

I sit in sec 13 row 84 and…

I sit in sec 13 row 84 and the visitor section starts the row behind me up high. We sometimes get a buffer row of Mich fans, but they end up on top of us.

I have been a season ticket holder since 2002, attended as a student and my dad was a season ticket holder too, so I have been going since I was a very young kid. Honestly buckeye fans aren’t that bad. Msu fans can be a little nastier, but the worst fans are the g5 fans that think they have a chance, like uconn back during RR.

I get it. I’ve been with a…

I get it. I’ve been with a lot of companies, some massive, some with fewer than 10 people. There is something different and cultish about UWM. Everyone I know that has worked there says the same thing

It makes more sense when you…

It makes more sense when you realize her job was to craft an image. UWM used to bring brokers through like they were at Disney and we were the attraction. It was a total facade

As someone who worked there,…

As someone who worked there, the culture stuff is all smoke and mirrors. It was every bit the slave driving place with a lot of gaslighting to make you think you were the reason you were miserable

All true

All true

I worked there too. Culture…

I worked there too. Culture sucks and leadership is very thin skinned

I worked at UWM. It’s not a…

I worked at UWM. It’s not a vibe. That dude is a POS

The older boards were…

The older boards were installed prior to the 1969 season and lasted until the end of the 1997 season

This. When Brandstatter…

This. When Brandstatter calls the 4th down that was short that sealed it.

Hmm, also was in Alex’s…

Hmm, also was in Alex’s class as DLS. Didn’t know there was an Al connection

I don’t think it’s that…

I don’t think it’s that useless and it is different from kinesiology. Something like majoring in football or coaching or something like that.

For a nerd like me that did computer science, it would be useless, basically. But why are we playing some charade for a guy like Dax who is clearly coming here to get into the NFL?

Plenty of actors study acting or theater at major universities, why not football?

And if you compare most athletes to engineers, they may not seem too smart. But ask an engineer to read a defense in milliseconds and they would look like idiots too.

In the end, putting some of these athletes into other degree programs is a sham. Why don’t we just call it what it is? They are here to get into their profession just like a EECS kid trying to get a job at Microsoft.

I have thought the very same…

I have thought the very same thing for years. Why can’t someone major in athletics just like other forms of entertainment?

11. I wouldn’t miss it and I…

11. I wouldn’t miss it and I’ll never take going to the games for granted again.

I love the experience of being there, no matter how comfortable my sofa is. Plus, at home I would have to endure another Buick commercial instead of listening to the band.

I guess one benefit of 4K TVs is those of us going are the ones who really want to be there. Hopefully we’ll have fewer people yelling “down in front”. So, if you like being at home or just want to complain about the team, stay home. Those of us who want to go have a good time and support the team will be at Stadium and Main on Saturdays.

Why can’t ot just be an…

Why can’t ot just be an extra quarter, possibly with a shorter duration, similar to basketball? Seems like a simple solution and maintains similar game strategy.

DLS ‘93.

had about 10-15 of us out of 150 go to U of M. We were not a football powerhouse in my day.

But Brian has already told…

But Brian has already told us this isn’t happening. And apparently anyone thinking otherwise is an idiot waddling into Wal-Mart on their way to a free-dumb rally in Lansing.

Most of America was sold …

Most of America was sold “two weeks to flatten the curve”.

at this point many Americans are willing to deal with the virus as part of our lives.

So no, we didn’t try to quarantine that hard.

We also had Big Gretch…

We also had Big Gretch waddling through a protest. Somehow standing up for some rights fueled a pandemic and others didn’t?

Our district went to online…

Our district went to online to start. We moved our kid to a private school doing in person.

Wife and I work outside the home without an option to be home. And even if we could work at home, there is no way we could work and teach.

Our kids face a bigger risk being home than going out.

Plus, students and student…

Plus, students and student athletes are together the rest of the week. Moving the group a mile away to a stadium won’t have much impact.

Thanks for this thread…

Thanks for this thread. There is a lot of gloom and doom out there, I think many of us could use some good news and positivity around this virus.

total bummer. That place…

total bummer. That place kept me awake for many early classes.

South U is becoming hard to recognize. One of the best things about AA is the local businesses and funky joints. I hope COVID-19 doesn't destroy that.

I think the only way we're…

I think the only way we're having a season is if folks accept that there will be players with cases and that people just accept the risks.

I think the chances of that happening are low, but is the only way we're having a season. Otherwise the other posters are right, the season will quickly become a farce.

I am not saying this is what should happen, but I think it's the only way we're getting through the season, absent a cure/vaccine.

You aren't going crazy. This…

You aren't going crazy. This came out a few weeks ago:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7219423/

Since then, there has been more information refuting these claims. I'm not a doctor, but this may be what you're thinking of.

I have also seen reports of people testing positive but are really shedding dead virus cells. So, I don't think a positive test on an asymptomatic player means they are spreading the virus.

This plan makes a lot of…

This plan makes a lot of sense. Young people are at very low risk of death, and they will already be together on campus. I will happily stay home if they get to attend.

Craft beer and violating…

Craft beer and violating Whitmer’s Stay at Home order.

When did flatten the curve…

When did flatten the curve become find a vaccine?

“animosity towards good news…

“animosity towards good news around here”

lol

I figure we would all be on board with anything that gets us back to the stadium this fall.

uh, if he's already on…

uh, if he's already on campus, and hanging around the same people, his risk in the stadium isn't that different than anywhere else.

He's probably more at risk being in his dorm than outside in a students-only crowd.

100% I would go.

100% I would go.

Agreed.

it makes sense…

Agreed.

it makes sense though - Warde has said you can’t have sports without students on campus.  If the same group of people are in the stadium, it shouldn’t matter. Plus, there is plenty of room to spread out.

I have season tickets and a son at U of M. I will gladly sit home if he gets to go.

Exactly. So, let me get this…

Exactly. So, let me get this straight - OP wants to have a reasonable discussion, then suggests someone f-off?

Exactly. Unfortunately we…

Exactly. Unfortunately we have become binary in our thinking: lock down vs fully open; economic health vs people dying.

In the end, those of us who think a full lockdown is overkill expect some precaution. I'll wear a mask, wash my hands like crazy and will help compromised folks if it means we can get back to some kind of life.

Exactly. The idea was to…

Exactly. The idea was to slow things down to avoid overwhelming the health system. That happened.
Woodstock was held during a pandemic. We can go back outside and I would be first in line for college football.

Absolutely.

and if they…

Absolutely.

and if they play without fans, I’ll be standing on state street with a bullhorn watching on my phone.

As a self-appointed…

As a self-appointed cheerleader, separate SRO sections would be an excellent setup.

I'm not kidding. Stand the F…

I'm not kidding. Stand the F up.

If I could change anything, it would be the "down in front" crowd

Unlike professional sports,…

Unlike professional sports, college athletics has a student section. I wonder about having students only at games.

Where were you at? We were…

Where were you at? We were standing and had some very old-timer sparties call the event staff over. The event staff came up guns blazing and immediately called the police in - because we were standing.

Later in the game, while the scoreboard was asking everyone to stand up, the same old timers went nuts and threatened to fight us because we were standing up. Even my sparty wife was yelling at them to shut up.

I sit in the south end zone …

I sit in the south end zone (section 13) and have visiting fans usually in the few rows behind us. Had a much smaller presence and the only time they were fired up was to call the event staff over to tell us to sit down.

The NFL uses a mic/speaker…

The NFL uses a mic/speaker system for QB snap counts. On the road in a hostile environment in college you need a visual system

Same here. Can’t watch today…

Same here. Can’t watch today because I am out of the country celebrating my anniversary with my wife in the Caribbean. Figured 28-7 was enough. I was wrong. I will go back to drinking on the beach.
