Michigan freshmen football players told to report on June 15th, according to Detroit Free Press

Sounds like they are bringing at least football students in on June 15th, probably related to the stay at home order getting looser recently in Michigan. Another good sign football may be happening this year. Let's hope everyone stays safe.

‘Social distancing guidelines are still in effect, which means any players who don't live together must stay 6 feet apart at all times.”  - I can see how this works for condItioning, but a bit complicated for much else.

I'm really interested to see if schools can properly handle COVID-19 once all of these kids come back and start working out, but they might as well start earlier rather than later if the end goal is football in the fall.

Speaking of freshman football players, shouldn't the recruiting features be happening (starting soon) on this site?  I've always found those useful because I don't spend much time reading in depth on recruits during the recruiting process.  Sure, I follow on a broad overview type view but there are so many nuances now with player evaluations and rankings.  It's helpful summer reading so I have a better understanding who these guys are in the fall.

Weird feeling to be hopeful that football happens but also not wanting any of our coaches, players, support staff or their families to pay a price for it.  Guess all we can do is take it a day at a time, but this does seem like good news for sure.

This is correct. The process is basically:

1. Report/Get tested

2. Quarantine in room for 2-3 days until results of test

3. Training starts in groups of 20. 5 athletes per coach.

4. Showering in the locker room is permitted, but trying to put an emphasis on getting in and out quickly.

5. No cafeteria, it's all ready made food to grab and go.

18-19 year old men are some of the lowest risk people. None of our coaches are high risk category. Take their temps, after 2 weeks isolated on campus it's game on.

I'll be diablo's advocate... just because they clear after two weeks doesn't mean they don't come into contact with surfaces that have been touched by staffers at the University. Hell they could be out grabbing food or something...

Slight correction. They can't be told...it's 100% voluntary.

And it's not like the wink wink voluntary either. Coaches can't have contact and some kids around the country won't report because their home situation is better and they have what they need at home.

It's really for the kids who need to get back on campus, get proper nutrition and workout equipment, etc. - most will return because who wants to be home with their parents? But this isn't even like capitans practice or your normal voluntary workouts.

We should have more statistics that follow the opening of states. Best hope is there will be little uptick.  It is relieving to my eyes just reading the news.

Bringing them on campus might also be a tactic to get them here, get them in classes, so they are more or less "committed" or "stuck" here in case football doesn't happen.  If all of the recruits stayed home, it would very easy for them to look to go else where when football does resume.

LOL... ya know, despite my recent dislike of Harbaugh because well...SCOREBOARD...

I've gained a little respect for him today!
