- 3390 passing yards, 30 passing TDs, and 9 INTs
- 1538 rushing yards, 21 rushing TDs, 6.6 ypc
Woof.
For comparison, RGIII's Baylor squad went 9-3, but he put up:
- 4293 passing yards, 37 passing TDs, and 6 INTs
- 699 rushing yards, 10 rushing TDs, 13.77 ypc
Similar records with more TDs and total yards, it was Lamar's race to lose from the beginning.

I misread it from the website, lol. It was 3.91 ypc, but 13.77 rushes per game.

an eye-popping stat for a minute lol. But that number also includes sacks (I assume) which shouldn't count against the rushing total, IMO.

Agreed, it's absolutely ridiculous to be responsible for 4 turnovers and single-handedly cause your team to lose to Kentucky. But I guess all people care about is what you do against Syracuse and East Virginia State

Throwing 1 interception is not being perfect. Giving away four turnovers in a 3 point loss is a choke job. How about the game before that, against Houston? 260 total yards, 1 td and a pick in a game where they score 10 points. Jackson had great numbers against shit teams, but as soon as you line him up against Clemson, Houston, or even Kentucky apparently, he shows his true colors: a skinny kid in a system designed for him to throw the ball 50 times and run it 30 more

I'm not debating that he had a bad game. He clearly did. Its why the Heisman race went from being a landslide to something close. But who else are you going to give it to this year? Everyone else had their share of bad games.
Also when start saying things like "a skinny kid in a system" you sound like an asshole.

I agree that there's no one else you could've given it to this year, but it just pisses me off that it's automatically the player with the best stats who wins it, regardless of competition, performance in important games, opportunities to impact the game, etc.

Or Colorado or Penn State? A conference champion and conference champion runner up? Get your ass back in school kid! You still don't have a clue.

that he is the weak link in our base defense. Unless he has a free run at the QB or ball carrier in the backfield, he was consistently getting plowed in the run game or even overrunning the play. He has a great story and he's an exceptional athlete but he's just not that great at football yet (outside of KR/PR at which he's awesome).

Yup. This is why I hate the Heisman and think it's the most overrated award in football. It does not always go to the most outstanding player. More positions should be considered. I know there is the occassional non-QB or RB in the mix, but they rarely win it. It's so dumb.
December 10th, 2016 at 10:24 PM ^
Except, Jackson was far and away the most outstanding player this year. He plays for Louisville fer god's sake. It's not like he has the luxury of an elite level line and surrounding cast.
December 10th, 2016 at 10:36 PM ^
many of the guys who "should be considered" end up getting a pretty good reward... a high draft pick and lots of money (I'm assuming you are referring to offensive and defensive linemen, and perhaps corners).
Now, would they like to win the Heisman? Sure, of course, it is a prestigous award. But I think a lot of them make out just fine.

We asked Peppers to do a lot on defense where many times he was physically undermatched. Guys coming downhill on him in the 240-300+ lb range are going to win that matchup a significant number of times. Also his foot speed really kept teams from screening us to death to counteract D Brown's aggression of sending other LBs to the QB. Those things don't make for gaudy stats, but he obviously played a key role.
I think if you put him as a safety or a DB in a parallel universe, he would generally have a size advantage as well as speed, and have a better stat line with more INTs. While this would help his Heisman case, it didn't necessarily help the Team in the best way. I think Peppers best "highlight reel" work is still in front of him but we will see it on Sundays.
Wonderful player and it was truly thrilling to watch him put on the winged helmet on ESPN when he announced.

It's really the "Most Sports Center Highlights" award. If you can string enough of them together, you can be nominated.
