  • 3390 passing yards, 30 passing TDs, and 9 INTs
  • 1538 rushing yards, 21 rushing TDs, 6.6 ypc

Woof.

For comparison, RGIII's Baylor squad went 9-3, but he put up:

  • 4293 passing yards, 37 passing TDs, and 6 INTs
  • 699 rushing yards, 10 rushing TDs, 13.77 ypc

Similar records with more TDs and total yards, it was Lamar's race to lose from the beginning.

Throwing 1 interception is not being perfect. Giving away four turnovers in a 3 point loss is a choke job. How about the game before that, against Houston? 260 total yards, 1 td and a pick in a game where they score 10 points. Jackson had great numbers against shit teams, but as soon as you line him up against Clemson, Houston, or even Kentucky apparently, he shows his true colors: a skinny kid in a system designed for him to throw the ball 50 times and run it 30 more

I'm not debating that he had a bad game.  He clearly did.  Its why the Heisman race went from being a landslide to something close.  But who else are you going to give it to this year?  Everyone else had their share of bad games.

Also when start saying things like "a skinny kid in a system" you sound like an asshole.

I thought at was his Twitter handle or something. May still be annoying (I personally like the, well,"peppy-ness" of it), but it explains why the poster used it.

that he is the weak link in our base defense. Unless he has a free run at the QB or ball carrier in the backfield, he was consistently getting plowed in the run game or even overrunning the play. He has a great story and he's an exceptional athlete but he's just not that great at football yet (outside of KR/PR at which he's awesome).

Woodson wouldn't have won the Heisman if he did not play returner and receiver as well. While Woodson was most definitely the best defensive player on the team, Jabrill was the most talented player on the team if he wasn't statistically the best defensive player on the team. I say statistically because a lot of things he does on defense you cannot put a number to. He's an impact guy at every position he plays including offense. He had his weaknesses for sure, but there was no other player that I've seen in a long time be able to do the things he does as well as he does it. Jabrill earned his 5th place Heisman vote. If he would have been utilized better on offense at the last half of the season and not been so predictable, he possibly could have won it all. That being said, he struggled offensively at the end of the season and therefore didn't have the numbers to get the Heisman win.

Yup. This is why I hate the Heisman and think it's the most overrated award in football. It does not always go to the most outstanding player. More positions should be considered. I know there is the occassional non-QB or RB in the mix, but they rarely win it. It's so dumb.

Except, Jackson was far and away the most outstanding player this year. He plays for Louisville fer god's sake. It's not like he has the luxury of an elite level line and surrounding cast.

many of the guys who "should be considered" end up getting a pretty good reward... a high draft pick and lots of money (I'm assuming you are referring to offensive and defensive linemen, and perhaps corners).

Now, would they like to win the Heisman?  Sure, of course, it is a prestigous award.  But I think a lot of them make out just fine.

He is the best defensive player on the team. Jordan Louis, and Worthy have both done more to stop opposing defenses than Peppers has. Sure he has made a few exciting plays, but he has not made near the difference in the W/L column that Louis and Worthy have.

We asked Peppers to do a lot on defense where many times he was physically undermatched.  Guys coming downhill on him in the 240-300+ lb range are going to win that matchup a significant number of times.  Also his foot speed really kept teams from screening us to death to counteract D Brown's aggression of sending other LBs to the QB.  Those things don't make for gaudy stats, but he obviously played a key role.

I think if you put him as a safety or a DB in a parallel universe, he would generally have a size advantage as well as speed, and have a better stat line with more INTs.  While this would help his Heisman case, it didn't necessarily help the Team in the best way.  I think Peppers best "highlight reel" work is still in front of him but we will see it on Sundays.

Wonderful player and it was truly thrilling to watch him put on the winged helmet on ESPN when he announced.
