Thinks he needs 9 wins. Even referred to Rich Rod as a "hillbilly coach" this weekend when I was in getting a cut. I'd have argued, but since he's got the sharpest razors I've ever seen, I bit my tongue.

I think its time to find a new barber. And that's too bad, because he's got awesome chairs.

I think FA's new off-topic rule should be extended substantively to this topic, and temporarily until at least game 6. Nobody wants to hear about someone's requisite # of wins unless it actually - in reality - comes to be an issue.

Folks, the subject is out there. Going 3-9 followed by 5-7 will do that. There are scenarios (hopefully unlikely) that get Rich Rodriguez fired this year. It is perfectly reasonable for people to speculate, “What does he have to do to avoid that happening?” It is no different than the ten thousand other things that people speculate about.

I started to walk down the street when I heard a voice saying: "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." I turned, and there was this big white rabbit leaning against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that, because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

There are some nuggets in that article.

#1:

"But few could have envisioned such a bottoming out, and a lack of talent has been an issue. Michigan has had just five players drafted in the past two years, the lowest two-year total since 1985-86."

Well, no @#$%ing kidding.  I'm amazed this isn't reported more often.  Maybe I shouldn't be...

#2

"The truth is Lloyd [Carr] didn't recruit well nor did his staff the last several years they were there," says Bill Dufek, a Michigan All-America offensive tackle in 1976 who is a successful State Farm Insurance agent in Ann Arbor. "They got complacent. Lloyd didn't make house visits, and it showed. I don't know what he was doing, but the proof is in the players that were left here."

Ouch!  That's a Grade A zinger (fair or not).

I'm almost as sick of hearing about how many wins RR needs, as I am of hearing about how Lloyd's recruiting somehow led to how awful our team is now (it's amazing how much we sound like ND fans, blaming Willingham looong after the fact). We've always had top 15 or something recruiting classes.

"How Many Wins?" has been cliched for years now.  If Rich Rodriguez has a good year, he'll stay.  If Rich Rodriguez does something terribly scanadalous, he'll be fired.  Frankly, it's time to get down to football, just so that there's actual stories to talk about.

In yet another "RR Hot Seat" article, St Pete Times sports editor Tom Jones picks three coaches "on the hot seat" in his page 2 column for Sunday.  The three coaches are, in order, RR, Bill Stewart, and Les Miles.  In other words, the three coaches involved in the drama of December 2007 are the top three he percieves to be on the "hot seat."

I would link this, but apparently his Page 2 from yesterday wasn't considered worthy of the internet. For that matter, I wouldn't have even mentioned it if not for the oddity of the RR/Stewart/Miles "connection."

Anyway, I think that RR will be on his current job long after Stewart and Miles have been fired from theirs.
