Wishing and dreaming: A look ahead at talking head bowl projections
Yeah yeah yeah, BTCG against Iowa and all the weirdness that often entails. I trust my boys in blue (well, white jerseys, at least, since we're technically the away team - hey, there should be a uniform thread or three! Not it!).
That said, I was interested in seeing some bowl projections and here is a summary. Big Ten teams bolded. I only did the CFP and NY6 bowl games involving BT teams.
Consensus seems to be Michigan in the semis, most often against Cincy, and advancing to the final; osu in the Rose, most often against Oregon; and msu in the Fiesta, most often against notre dame.
ESPN:
- Kyle Bonagura: Michigan vs. Alabama in the CFP Semis; Michigan vs. UGA in the Final
- Mark Schlabach: Michigan vs. Cincy in the Semis; Michigan vs. UGA in the final
- CFA Peach Bowl: Pitt vs. msu (Bonagura)
- Fiesta Bowl: notre dame vs. Baylor (Bonagura) or nd vs. msu (Schlabach)
- Rose Bowl: osu vs. Utah (Bonagura) or vs. Oregon (Schlabach)
CBS:
- Michigan vs. Cincy in the semis; no prediction for final
- Rose: osu vs. Oregon
- Fiesta: msu vs. notre dame

- Michigan vs. Ok St in semis; Michigan vs. UGA in the final

The second-best thing about beating Ohio State, after beating Ohio State, is that UM controls its own destiny. Win this weekend and playoff is guaranteed. That rules.

My pick for uniforms would be the blue pants. Can't do the all-maize against a team that wears yellow. I think I'm the only person alive who likes those ones, but I also like the blue pants quite a bit

Guessing that IF we somehow lose to Iowa, then it'd be Iowa-Rose, UM-NY6, OSU-NY6, and Sparty left out of the NY6 headed to the Citrus

None of that negative Mojo around here. Another less talked about hump to get over of Michigan football the last 2 decades is beating, THOROUGHLY, the shenanigans of a 10 win Kirk Ferentz Iowa Hawkeye team. No rock fights or completely uncalled for losses.

Goodness gracious, if Michigan were take down Bama and then Georgia in a row in the playoffs, they and Harbaugh would officially be the ultimate “dethroners” of the SEC. Sparta (Ancient Greece) level stuff there, haha.
All that said….BEAT IOWA! Don’t get sucked into Ferentz mind games…watch game tape of Purdue and Wisconsin, and hit them with a two way approach from the running and throwing game (because we have the athletes and Oline!) that they have no answer for! No turnovers, and pin them back inside the 5 if it comes to that where they will certainly die. And ZERO turnovers!

Yeah this Iowa game is no gimme. They are 10-2. Yes they’ve struggled at times but so have we. Need to beat Iowa and get that Big Ten Championship. Yes this season is an unmitigated success with finally beating OSU but it would be a bummer to lose to Iowa and miss out on the Big Ten Championship. I do think the team is focused though. This team seems to have an intensity and focus that is really fantastic to watch.

I honestly would not be shocked if they come out in all maize uniforms or maize jerseys with blue pants for this game. Hopefully not, but the only time they wore them was in a neutral site game as the away team. Again, let me emphasize this, PLEASE DO NOT WEAR ALL MAIZE UNIFORMS.

Don't see how we could play Bama like the first prognosticator. If they beat UGA, they'll be #1 and I don't see how we could drop to #4 with a win against Iowa (no way Cinci or Ok St jumps us). If Bama loses to UGA, they're out

agree - if Bama beats Georgia, then the committee would put Georgia 3 and us 2, or v/v, so they could avoid 1vs4 rematch of AL/GA, and we get the chance to crush ESS EEE SEE dreams in a different way

I don’t see any way we would play Alabama in a semifinal. They will either be number 1 or out, and we will either be number 2 or out.

OSU losing to Bama and MSU losing to Kentucky or Arkansas would be icing on the cake. I root for all other big ten teams in bowls.

I cant see the Rose Bowl picking Iowa, especially if Utah wins the Pac 12 as the only reason I can see them not picking OSU is to avoid a rematch with Oregon.
