Will Michigan have a Midnight Madness?
With college basketball season approaching, I've seen the ESPNU live look-in commerical for Midnight Madness in a few days. Will Michigan be having one? It's been a couple years since they have.

Doubtful, they did two years ago and it was at 10:00pm, still a good amount of fun. That's where Novak did the between the legs dunk.
However last year they did not, Beilein doesn't seem to be a fan of it.

If they were going to hold one, it seems like it would have been announced by now. I haven't seen any mention of one in any of the coverage of yesterday's Media Day. And Beilein made no mention of one during his radio interviews yesterday with WDFN (podcast) and WTKA (podcast).
On a side note: Beilein mentioned in the interviews that there's been a delay in laying the floor at the Player Development Center, so it'll be about a month before that facility is finished.

Something about the the climate within the building itself. Should be a BIG addition going forward for the program. Hats off to the school and ad (present and former) for making this happen...

I hear that we aren't, because Belein feels that it is a waste of a practice and you only get a certain amount before preseason stuff starts

I was really looking forward to seeing Beilein do something cool like dressing up as an undercover narcotics officer and rappeling down from the ceiling.

I had heard that we're not because D-Mo had gotten injured during it one year.

I heard that we're not because we can't even fill the lower bowl for a real game.

You registered on this site to post that?

...and it isn't even true.

Obviously he's a troll, but average attendance for 2010 was 11,725. Crisler has a capacity of 13,751, so that's not terrible. Not like it apparently was in the ealry 90's, but definitely respectable.

Couldn't D-Mo just as easily gotten hurt during a normal-time-of-the-day practice? I don't see why that would turn Beilein off to Midnight Madness.

But I'm excited for basketball season. Timmy Jr. did some nice work with USA U-19. Those cheerful Lithuanians clammed up quickly.

If you make it an event, more than a practice, It has a chance of being a lot more than just another practice. Make it a really good atmosphere. Open it up to the public. Pack the stadium. University of Memphis does it, and has top-flight talent kids beating down the door to go to a terrible school in a even worse conference.

The year after Michigan wins the tournament. I dont know that a midnight madness would fill Crisler just yet, but another tourney run and the fan support just might get there...

They really should do it. Advertise the shit out of it. Facebook, Twitter, TV, whatever. They have a 75% newly renovated arena. They could sell discounted season tickets, student tickets, ticket packages, and even single games there. If the non-student turnout is average, they would probably consider that a success.

Beilein isn't the publicity, self-promotion clown that Izzo is, but I'm sure Brandon is going to come up with some new twists for the basketball team.
