Who were your five (5) favorite teams from Saturday’s games?

Submitted by Amazinblu on November 6th, 2022 at 5:07 AM

It seemed like yesterday’s games were the equivalent of Saturday at Augusta.. “Moving Day”.   Which were your five favorite teams - and, if you care to add.. why?

Mine, in descending order are:

5.  Tennessee - their offense was pretty ineffective, and that was nice to see.  The love that the Vols were getting in the media was huge.  They’ll fall in the next rankings release but - will be back in the: “should there be two SEC teams in the CFP” conversation in four weeks.

4.  LSU - I hope their game results in just a little less “Bama deserves to be in the CFP every year” conversation.  I’m not saying Saban’s reign is over, but - the fat lady’s definitely ready to go on stage.

3. ND - my view was their OL play improved significantly from their opener and it showed.  Of course, I’m not “pro ND”, but I am glad they showed what a fraud Clemson is / was.

2. Michigan - because they are my team, and always will be.   A “slower” start with a solid second half.

1. Northwestern - the weather dictated a game plan for the teams.  I have felt that line play from the team in Columbus has been over-rated all season.  It was great to see how their lines performed / executed.  I hope they keep doing what they’re doing.

So, who did you enjoy watching play on Saturday?

A game that used to be huge but went under the radar this year (because neither team is really good) was Florida State vs Miami. But it was enjoyable to see Florida State absolutely destroy Miami who has gone completely backwards in the Cristobol / Gattis era.

I only watched Michigan, and about half the Sparty game. I was thrilled with the way our team played the second half. If the team can start a bit stronger in The Game, it should be another good win.

Decidedly mixed on sparty. While I was never a huge fan of the familial moniker Coach Hart gave them, after the tunnel attack, I prefer that moniker be forever banished. That said, I wanted them to lose in every way possible, but give them props for their resilience.

As fornthe CFP rankings, win out and we should be the 2 seed, hopefully bumping osu out of the top 4.

Boy did Bert shit the bed.

That performance took some of the shine off my view of him.

Maybe MSU is a better team getting all the shitheads out of the locker room?

I think State is getting better, and I think they thought they were going to beat us, hence their complete meltdown when they didn’t.  I think Henderson is a really good player and has made a huge difference in their secondary.  They will beat Rutgers and Indiana and I think they could beat Penn State depending on who they get back.  That was not an easy win for Michigan, it was a big win, and I think it is a factor in them looking a bit spent yesterday.

Harbaugh had three goals this year. Beat MSU, beat Buckeyes in the road and beat Georgia. I am sure he has been working on that the whole season. He finally got the "not beating OSU" monkey off his back.

I am expecting a college Superbowl between Georgia and UM this year. Hope the results will be different this time.

My enjoyable order differs but have the same list.

1) A big Meechigan victory with another stellar second half.

2) The ND beatdown of Clemson. Clemson should fall below ND in the CPF rankings.

3) UGA solid win over the Vols. The UGA defense prevailed. UGA is a better team than UT even on a neutral field. The Vols deserve to fall to 5th, behind TCU but we know better.

4) LSU, love him or hate him but Brian Kelly is a good coach. Good thing the game was in Baton Rouge and at night. We can finally say Bye Bye 'Bama.

5) NW playing OSU tough and no excuses for the lackluster performance by the Buckeyes. Really strange that CJ Stroud gained more yds on the ground their RB.

Saturday was indeed moving day. Down 17-14 at halftime, I thought the Saturday jinx was in effect at Rutgers.

1.   Michigan.  Because Michigan.  Despite the scare, it was nice to see the continued 2nd half dominance.  By my fingers score is now 131 - 31 in the second half in conference games.  28 given up against Maryland and Iowa, with 3 total points allowed the last 4 games.

2.  LSU for reasons given above
3.  ND for same

4.  MSU.  Not a popular choice, I know.  And I don't respect anything that program stands for.   But it was a nice redemptive game for a team with everything rolling against it.

5.  Jayhawks.  Pantsed Oklahoma State to gain bowl eligibility.   Astonishing that they had gone a dozen years without winning 4 games.

1. Notre Dame - They've now beat two previously unbeaten ACC teams that are leading their divisions. Very impressive turnaround.

2. Alabama - Saban almost only loses very close games with Alabama but something of the mystique seems missing season. They seem like every other good team in the SEC but not unbeatable.

3. Tulane - For some reason I have always kept an eye on Tulane and they have not had many highlights over the last decade. Good for them. The AAC seems to have more parity in part because its top coaches get poached.

4. Oregon - They look really good to me. That whole conference has stepped up big time from the last few years.

5. Texas A&M - Now lost 6 of their last 8, 4 by less than one score. I know what it feels like to watch that kind of football and am sorry, A&M fans.

I was pretty focused on Michigan last night, and had other things to take care of during the earlier games so I didn't watch a lot.  But I'll give a shout-out to NW for playing OSU tough in bad weather.  On a day when everyone knew there would be 8-9 in the box on every play, they stayed even with OSU.  Matched them in total yardage, had 200+ running yards, and threw every bit as well as the Heisman 'front runner' did.  Does anyone think they match Michigan that well in similar game circumstances?  I don't...

Props to UGA for exposing UTenn.  The Vols have a fun offense to watch, but its a big play offense - similar to Steve Spurrier's UF outfits back in the day.  If they can't hit big plays, they get beat.  Good teams can stop, or at least limit, the big plays that power those offenses.  UGA did that to UTenn - they made UTenn run the strategic and tactical plays that make for long TD drives, and they couldn't do it.

I'm glad Clemson was exposed as a fraud in a manner the committee cannot avoid.  But I'm disappointed it was ND that committed the exposury.

I wish Michigan wouldn't have played at the same time that Bama-LSU was on, because that would've been a fun game to watch.

The universe corrected the playoff committee yesterday and exposed them for their errors last week. Or, could it be that the playoff committee is smart like a fox and did their ranking  intentionally to light a fire under Michigan to prove it deserves to be in the top 4?

The MLS Cup between LAFC whose owners include Will Ferrell, Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm  and her husband Nomar Garciaparra and Philadelphia Union whose owners include Kevin Durant might've gotten some votes for the game of the day if any of the football wrap-up shows took the international version of football into account.

SPOILER:

Tied at 2-2, late into the 30-minute extra period, Philadelphia gets a goal in the 124th minute from an unlikely source, 6-6 center back Jack Elliott who'd surprisingly scored in the 85th minute to tie the score.

Then Welsh international star Gareth Bale who'd come on in the 97th minute scores on a header in the 128th minute to tie it at 3-3.

LAFC's backup goalie John McCarthy, a journeyman who'd played in 21 matches for Philadelphia Union between 2015 and 2018, was called on to replace the starter, Canadian international Maxime Crépeau, who'd been carted off the field after suffering a serious leg injury while making a dangerous tackle that earned him a red card that put LAFC down to ten men in the 117th minute. McCarthy stopped two of Philadelphia's penalty kicks (the third flew way over the net) and LAFC won the shootout 3-0.

My favorites, other than Michigan, of course, were the teams that beat the pretenders the cfp committee and the media hype train tried to prop up.

I enjoyed watching the natural order restored, despite overwhelming insistence than flawed and struggling teams were "the best."

I enjoyed seeing Georgia, Notre Dame, LSU, Kansas, and fall weather confirm what we all knew.

The Philadelphia Union deserved better. Congrats, though, to LAFC on their victory in the best soccer final of all-time.

Michigan also looked really good after the half

The mighty Wolverines are always top, of course, no matter the game.  1st half was hard to watch.  Also, I was worried they were going to get Corum, JJ, or both injured.  I was getting pissed off at what was getting called at times.  Not that I have any expertise at football plays -- but, man.

I also watched:
-- anOSU vs. The World-Famous Northwestern Wildcats
-- MSU vs. Illinois
-- the Vols vs. Georgia

MSU/Illinois was a good game.  anOSU/NW was fun because it was a close game for a lot of it, and it was so surprising to see how it went.  Vols/Georgia was just a complete lopsided domination by Georgia in every moment, and so not that interesting.
