What does Wisconsin prepare for during the bye?

Submitted by Blue-Ray on September 8th, 2019 at 10:04 PM

Whatever your opinion is of the Michigan "body blow" offense last year, Wisconsin (2-0) got clobbered by it 38-13 in the Big House.

Michigan (also 2-0) is bringing a new offense into Camp Randall in two weeks, after only having to show glimpses of it in the first two games.

So what does Wiscy prepare for? What's the style of the passing attack? What exactly is Speed in Space?

Could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how full you interpret the cup is.

Ronnie Bell. They don't have to worry about the ball being thrown to the giant outside receivers.

Finding someone to block Aidan Hutchinson and Josh Uche. This is a much better opponent for these guys to wreak havoc.

I think Uche, Paye, Hutch and Danna will all have big games.  I don't expect Wiscy to run all over the D as so many are expecting.  I am more worried about the offense.  It's funny that I've completely reversed my stance from exactly one week ago where I was more worried about the D than the O.

Should I be on medication?

Yes you should.  I’m worried about the D.  Jonathan Taylor gashed us every time he touched the ball last year.  Inexplicably they tried to throw the ball on us which went terribly.  I remember being at that game and breathing a sigh of relief every time they dropped back to pass.  If I’m Wisconsin, I hand the ball off 50+ times to my best player and wear down M already suspect interior D line.

Correct to bring the heat. It was clear Army knew where to attack Michigan: the edges.  With two true sophomore tackles and very green RBs, Army just blitzed off the edge and Hayes and the RBs didn't know what to do.  Wasn't really Shea's fault.  And then the play calling turtled up entirely to try to protect the tackles and RBs who couldn't pick up blitzes.

Good thing for Wisconsin, their 3-4 scheme is built to confuse the edges and I imagine Leonhard will have an extensive blitz package.  If Runyan and Tru Wilson are back, it'll probably be an entirely different game for Michigan.  Mayfield will still probably present a weak spot that Wisconsin will attack.

Other than that, they just need to work on doing their thing on offense.  Like giving the dang ball to Jonathan Taylor.

As a senior and a starter, Shea needs to know what to do. That's his job. He missed open receivers when he did throw it, didn't notice 2nd and 3rd options when he did have time and then there's the issue if whether the missed the reads on run options or was told not to keep.  It was very much Shea's fault.

Preparing for the opposing team to not spend their timeouts, not optioning on a zone read, and never using a fullback in glaringly obvious situations.

Was the back up ready to play? Interception are different than fumbles. Schembechler had a special place in his butthole for players who fumbled. A lot can go wrong on a pass. They felt you should be able tohand a guy the ball without dropping it and if you have the ball in your arms, you be able to fall to the ground with it still in your arms. That seems to have changed.

I have no idea.  I'm confident that our offense will not look like it has the first two games.  If it does, we'll lose.  Maybe badly.

If it is different and approaches the potential of our personnel--including having Runyan and DPJ back--we might blow them out.

Either way, I don't think this game will be close.  I'd hate to bet this one.

They’ll be trying to prepare for the subset of the offense we have ran, plus what we haven’t, plus the upgrade of running it with our all conference LT and WR returning.

We will be preparing to run it without putting the ball on the ground every 10 plays.

Theoretically, we have the easier task. Theoretically.

In all seriousness, I wonder how much they prepare for Shea keeping and then pitching on the few triple options we’ve shown. We haven’t been letting Shea pull the ball, but we’ve still put those on film. We surprised them last year when we finally allowed Shea to pull on the arc read, now we have a few more options he hasn’t kept on yet either.

So what does Wiscy prepare for?

Uhh, recovering fumbles?

LOL

Just a little humor to lighten this place up. I think Wisconsin will actually see what Gattis has promised - Speed In Space. The offensive playcalling will probably more closely resemble the MTSU game than that atrocity we saw versus Army. I don't know what happened against Army (tightness?), but I suspect that Coach Harbaugh and Coach Gattis recognize that they MUST coach and playcall much better, and utilize the team's athletes properly.

How exactly do we prepare our defense to magically have an interior defensive line that is going to prevent Taylor from getting 4+ yards a carry?
