What are the main reasons you give someone -1 or +1 on MGoBlog???

Submitted by InRichRodWeTrust on
I am new to MGoBlog. I would like to know what everyone’s criteria is because I have got a lot of +1's when I didn't think I should have got them and -1's for reasons I can not figure out. Sorry that this is not a sports related question, but it is related to MGoBlog.

If you go to the voting statistics, I'm one of the people who +1's the most but I -1 for a few things. 1.) Getting they're/their/there or your/you're wrong. 2.) Using stupid nicknames like Dumbtonio or O$U 3.) Posting in every thread and generally raising hell about the Free Press. If you don't want to read it, fine. I hate seeing a thread that someone starts with a legitimate title and a link that happens to be from the free press. I expect to read about that topic but instead the first 8 posts are "im never clicking on the freep again blah blah blah". Just shut up already. You don't need to constantly one-up people and brag about how much you hate the Freep.

It's not that I oppose whatever unofficial policy there is. It is just that when I click on a topic, I expect to read about it, not 7-8 people telling me whether or not they clicked on the link. I don't give a damn if you clicked on it or not. It is annoying to have to constantly sift through this garbage.

That I have a strong moral compass, that guides my every decision after thoughtful deliberation. But I usually just roll a 1d20 to hit, and then a 4 sider for damage (if applicable). Sorry, I'm capricious like that.

I don't usually give negs when I see somebody's post say "agreed" or "+1" and not contribute anything else, but it's just clutter and pisses me off. But what really grinds my gears is when somebody makes a valid argument and follows it up by saying "That being said..." it's like you're not arguing anything anymore and just say that so you don't have anybody disagree with you. Man up.

As you can tell from my score... Look, breaks down like this. Most of the regulars here are smart, passionate; love Michigan (football) and want and hope for the best. That said...it's like being at a neocon policy gathering. Extremely sharp minds but if you dare say anything that might even theoretically suggest that perhaps you don't fully and completely believe in exactly what the others do, then you are Negged. The quality of your argument with respect to this is of zero relevance.

We're all so smart on here that we downvote anything that strays from our monolithic groupthink. I know I sure don't visit this blog to read interesting viewpoints that might differ from mine. How would that make me any smarter? Thanks for your high regard of the folks who post here. Thanks also for your quality arguments, even though we don't deserve them.

Anyone who starts doing the emoticons like RCMB (or however its spelled) will get a neg from me....that is all...except for clear trolls

I give out a fair number of +1's, while I only neg on occasion. Basically, if I think someone's post adds to the thread, I give it +1. I also like to upvote new posters to get them above the 20-point threshold (unless they seem like they might be trolls). I neg when I feel someone is out of line, obnoxious or just acting really stupidly.

I flit about this site at night bestowing little gifts of points to all the girls and boys. And I do it wearing tights and a tiara. I understand it's frightening and creepy, but deep-down I want all of us to finish in a tie for first. Except HHW. His runner chicks are bonerrific.

Most common +1s, clever wit, a well reasoned take-even if I disagree, good movie quote references, patience and perspective on difficult issues for M fans, most any well used reference to a face-palm. Most common -1s, bullies picking on the new guy, oversimplifying and strawmanning, the die hard Rich Rod faction that will turn any question relating to RR's competence (even if valid) into an irrational attack, and last but certainly not least, those that jump on any reference to Michigan as "us" or "we" and go all "I don't see you suiting up on Saturday" or "when did you join the team." Get over that one.

Posbang: 1. Anything that makes me laugh or think. 2. Anybody who I can tell negged me for being a jackass. Negbang: 1. Overused Internet/MGo Memes - "Nuff Said", "HOWEVA", "FAIL", "Chart? Chart!"(I'd say Brian gets a pass, but I neg him just for the fuck of it, because it doesn't matter) 2. Any post that includes the word "point" in reference to MGoPoints, not the points you get for fucking slutty sorostitutes in various positions/locations, injuring band members, or athletic prowess. 3. I neg anyone who has their own picture, kid, or pet in their avatar. 4. I neg anyone who has a picture of the band or mentions the band in their MGoName 5. I neg harmless comments from anyone who has a tendency to follow up said posts with one of those "Seriously, why the fuck did you neg that comment, at least tell me why?" posts. 6. Noninformative Headlines get the negbomb. 7. Duplicate posts get the negbomb. 8. Anything that is fucking stupid. 9. Any post including the word "Folks" 10. Basically any post that looks like it needs a negging.

for obvious deep research, clear exposition of in-depth knowledge, or insider information, and combinations thereof. Useful or informative. Comments +1 for humor or for being well-thought-out or well-stated. I rarely -1 because anything that seems questionable has already been bombed by the time I get to it. Maybe hate speech or overt offensiveness. I +1 back toward 0 if I find the negging excessive. The last word on -1 is here ("Members Only," October 9).
