What about Mike Singletary?
i know he has no college coaching experience, but he is defensive-minded, disciplinarian (whose leadership style fits college better than pro), hall of famer with midwest (chicago) as well as texas (baylor) and west coast (49'ers) roots.
i could see plenty of recruits coming to play for samurai mike. i think he and barwis would make an awesome pair.
just trying to think outside the box

Might just work. Pants not necessary....

I actually like this, alot.

other good points for him
1) he is morally strong - not that i'm a purist, but when you want to avoid the anti-rrod and the anti-les miles crowd it certainly helps- plus i do think it's a postive
2) he's a minority- have to think mary sue would love that

@2) DIVERSITY! ITS WHAT MSC DOES!

EDIT: MichiganGuy19 beat me to the pants joke. I'll leave the headline for the fuck of it.

Rob Ryan will be hired. He will be introduced at the b-ball game tomorrow and will then chop off Bill Self's head with a broad sword. Then he will look into the camera and shout, "I'm coming for you next, Tressel!"
He will promptly be arrested and incarcerated for life, at which point we will settle for Brady Hoke. Still, it will be the greatest 10 minutes in Michigan football history.

The visual was awesome.

make it stop

I would definitely bring him on as a DC, but as a HC? I think he is a little too intense. Seriously.

to accept a d-coordinator position. Under Gruden? I'm going to kill myself pretty soon.

JOHN Harbaugh?
Mike Hart?
Ooh! Gene Chizik? Chip Kelly?
Elton John?

If you want a coach most likely to chop someones head off, go for Cable. Much more intimidating.

His only experience as a head coach was a failure. In the NFC West which I think is actually an easier conference than the B1G.

exactly, he flamed out for being too much of a college style coach- that's what started me thinking about it.
listen , most of what anyone posts on any of these threads is bs- like it's going to effect the search for real so i don't know why a thread on it is so bad- i don't post threads that often.
maybe i'm too much of a chicagoan and loved the 85 bears too much (first year i lived here)

Hey what about Bill Belichick?
-He's already accomplished everything in the NFL, winning multiple Superbowls and on his way to another one.
- We'd only have to wait until February to get him!
- He passes the Michigan Man test as he's coached Tom Brady!
- He's known for great defenses and also utilizes spread concepts.
- He coaches in the cold so he would know how to win here.
- He cheats so we know he'd find a way to win at Michigan.

... think he would take the step down, he's been an NFL coach his entire career. I'd love him to come in and run our defense but I can't see it happening.

Where the hell is the bear saying no?

Troy Calhoun.

he has no college coaching experience. I copied and pasted that right from the OP's box. Need I say more. I would love to have him as a DC. In 1985 I lived about 90 mins away from Chicago and I loved watching him. Dude was a monster and very smart, but, that being said he should probably do a stent at a little bit smaller scale school. Recruiting on a national level can be tedious for someone who is not prepared.

I don't have much football coaching experience. I had a second place finish coaching a flag football league one spring when my then 7 year old wanted to try it. And I'm pretty sure that will translate to college. :)
Come on, sometimes ya gotta laugh!

Does he have any sons who are still in football? I mean he's got an arena named after him on campus so his kids have to have it in their jeans don't they?
January 8th, 2011 at 2:50 PM ^
Any sons he has are probably pushing 90 now.
January 8th, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
please no, unless he is the DC
January 8th, 2011 at 3:02 PM ^
Not for head coach. DC maybe.
He got fired from the Niners for a reason

Why has no one brought up Vince Lombardi? I think he would be a fantastic coach at Michigan. I mean, he does have of the Superbowl trophy named after him.
