Watched Last Year's Ohio State Game Last Night
After closely watching the game again, the Michigan offense did well against the Buck defense over the course of the game. Patterson's accuracy was the primary problem and consistency in the running game. For the Bucks, Dobbins was just an absolute beast and had he not gotten hobbled against Clemson the Bucks stood a great chance of defeating Clemson. Ohio State absolutely crushed Michigan's man to man coverage schemes and especially in the tight bunch sets. The DL had no chance at pressuring Fields in these situations. Michigan's secondary and LB's were on the same levels causing them to bump into each other on several occasions when OSU's receivers ran their routes. They looked confused and even the game commentators spoke of it. Watching the game again though did show promise with Gattis and the offense as OSU is the standard in college football. Hopefully, the new experienced defensive coaches will finally talk Don Brown to stop playing too much man and especially in the red zone where there is not much field to work with. Charles Woodson was 100% right when he critiqued Brown's coverages earlier in the season. Hopefully this changes this year.

You are a courageous masochist. But, I appreciate the assessment. Hopefully our scheme has the personnel to meet its potential this year.

So last November I managed to smash myself in the balls with a hammer because I wasnt being very careful. It hurt more than anything I've experience in my life and literally wanted to die.
So last night I decided to see if it would still hurt as much if smashed myself in the balls again with a hammer. You know what? It DID!
In a few weeks I'll prolly do it again. You know - for research purposes.

Once is anecdote, twice is theory, but three times is evidence.
Swing away.

THIS! This is some funny stuff! ? ? ? ?

I would say, hopefully our personal has the scheme (at least on defense) to meet its potential this year. There's a lot of talent (McGrone, Paye, Hutch, Hill) if not depth so hopefully those guys are put in the best spots to succeed and the others are put in the right spots for their skill sets.

There's no reason to do this to yourself. You can borrow my Netflix login.

How was the massive hangover this morning?
October 20th, 2020 at 2:10 PM ^
UFR or it didn't happen.
October 20th, 2020 at 2:22 PM ^
No.
I would have read a UFR after the game last year, but I'm not doing it now. Fuck that. (Excuse me: 2020 that.)
October 20th, 2020 at 2:14 PM ^
I would never watch that shit again. Actually, can’t believe I made it three quarters deep in the first place.
October 20th, 2020 at 2:14 PM ^
What did Chuck say? I can't remember.
October 20th, 2020 at 6:43 PM ^
He talked about when seeing WR's in a bunch formation, and communicating with a levels defensive concept.
October 20th, 2020 at 2:15 PM ^
Serious question, why do you expect anything different from the defense this year after they clearly had no answer for them two years in a row?
October 20th, 2020 at 6:55 PM ^
The points per meaningful possession Michigan has given up since Haskins entered the game in the 3rd quarter of 2017 is ridiculous. They haven't stopped OSU AT ALL!
October 20th, 2020 at 2:23 PM ^
I give you props, man, I could not do that to myself

That's nothing. I still have 2018's game on the DVR and rewatch it occasionally.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:00 PM ^
2016 is the nightmare. Don't go near that one unless you're heavily sedated.
October 20th, 2020 at 4:18 PM ^
With the disclaimer that we're essentially quibbling over the relative pain of a serrated needle thru your uretha vs. an acid-coated needle -
at least with 2016 you could watch 3.5 quarters of Taco/Mo/Wormley stuffing JT Barrett like a ragdoll and pause before the Dark Times. there's literally nothing redeeming about watching any part of 2018
October 20th, 2020 at 4:28 PM ^
Fair enough. I give a hearty "fuck yeah" just thinking about the OT TD on 4th down and Speight holding up two fingers to the sidelines. Damn.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:38 PM ^
I can totally see that. I mean, who doesn't feel too happy from time to time and need a sure-fire way to put a stop to it?
October 20th, 2020 at 2:35 PM ^
I was in the hospital for that. After Michigan’s opening drive, I started hitting the pain button repeatedly.
October 20th, 2020 at 2:40 PM ^
I was at the game. Ohio State was, faster, better coached, more prepared, and had a better QB which is to me is the biggest difference between them and Michigan since they have literally taken over this rivalry. I am really hoping that Milton is the guy that changes that after this year because Ohio State still to me is ahead.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:02 PM ^
Yes yes yes alas.
We'll need a generational QB to change the flow of this rivalry, alas.
If you look back at the 90's when UM dominated, we were rolling guys like Brady out there. OSU was rolling out Joey Germaine and a number of other highly forgettable QBs.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:18 PM ^
Germaine was decent and won a Rose Bowl. The names you’re looking for are Greg Frey, Kirk Herbstreit and Stanley Jackson.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:47 PM ^
If Shawn Springs doesn't fall down when he's covering Tai Streets they could have won a national championship with Stanley Jackson platooning with Joe Germaine. That was the deciding touchdown in their only loss (a game I remember fondly); they beat an undefeated Arizona State in the Rose Bowl and eventual #1 Florida had a loss.
That's a big if, obviously, as both Michigan and Ohio State would have done things differently.
October 20th, 2020 at 9:49 PM ^
Don’t forget Craig (sp?) Krenzel. He game-managed them to some 14-10 type victories. He’s the Trent Dilfer of OSU quarterbacks.
October 20th, 2020 at 2:41 PM ^
Patterson's fumble in the redzone. Hudson's offsides on the punt (OSU touchdown two plays later). DPJ's drop in the endzone. These three first-half mistakes made the game unwinnable.
You are right, though. The offense looked like it COULD have been enough to really compete.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:21 PM ^
In this game not only are we outmatched talent wise and out coached but we make ALL the mistakes as well. Need a perfect scheme on both sides of the ball and zero mistakes. And then need them to make a few mistakes. Tall fucking order.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:33 PM ^
When Dobbins fumbled and the ball bounced perfectly back into his hands we should have known we were in for a long day.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:53 PM ^
I knew it was over as soon as Nordin missed the extra point
October 20th, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
The miracle fumble landing in Dobbins' hands better than a handoff was the moment for me too... Cuz, of course that would happen... After that play, I stopped paying attention to the rest of the game and I could actually feel my blood pressure lowering steadily.
October 20th, 2020 at 6:09 PM ^
Patterson not following his blocks 2 plays in a row b4 the fumble. Haskins not following his block on 4th down. Mettelus lost in space on 2 tds. Dropped passes. Kemp untiing Jks shoe. Mcgrone hit out of bounds. Just a total shitshow and im sure we're missing many more
October 20th, 2020 at 2:43 PM ^
Trying to conjure up a scenario where I would hate life enough to voluntarily rewatch that game.
Proving to be quite a challenge.
October 20th, 2020 at 2:44 PM ^
The optimistic side of things.....
As you said, Shea's accuracy was the primary issue to getting behind early. If Shea was dialed in, what would the end result be? The good news is that buckeye fans believe the last two years are the expectation, so the bar is sky high in Columbus.
Prior to two years ago, The Game was largely a good one in recent years(we were winning before Haskins came in and went off, plus the JT was short game). I like O$U having the thought process that we could not possibly play them tight. It will make it much sweeter when we do beat them.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:04 PM ^
The end result would still be a OSU blowout but it'll be a closer game. Instead of 56-27, it's probably 63-42
October 20th, 2020 at 2:45 PM ^
Don Brown is the most overrated coach on the roster. You can't play man when you have less talent than the other team.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:57 PM ^
Armchair QB comment coming at you...Id run zone coverage/blitzes all game...dont go to man once. Of course they will get yards, but at least the fuckin longgggggg chunk play man beaters would be less frequent.
I dunno, dumb comment im sure, but shit man....whatelse can we try?
October 20th, 2020 at 9:53 PM ^
After watching Georgia Alabama I'm convinced man just doesn't work except as a change up or if you are more talented. Georgia's D is good, but when push came to shove they looked no different against Bama's 5 stars than our guys did against OSUs.
Zone them up, take away the run, and make 'em work their way down the field.
October 20th, 2020 at 9:59 PM ^
Georgia has some studs, their linebackers we're quick enough to identify and cover the crosser. I'm not sure we have that kind of talent
October 21st, 2020 at 12:46 AM ^
Nothing to not be sure about there. Michigan flat out doesn’t have that kind of talent.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:00 PM ^
I was at the game last year (my first time bearing witness to the last game of the year in person) and I don't disagree with you. Multiple times throughout the game it felt like they were closer to OSU than in years past. Patterson was his 2019 self and there were a ton of unforced errors but it felt like they were in it. The skills that the 2020 team brings to the table have me feeling exponentially more optimistic than in years past. It feels like the offense is aligned for the first time in a looooong time. Hopefully the 2 NFL bound defensive ends can create some havoc so we can afford to drop more in coverage.
October 20th, 2020 at 3:05 PM ^
I mean, Michigan had Winovich and Gary, both are NFL bound DE and it didn't make a difference. OSU OL has been great under Day.
October 20th, 2020 at 4:01 PM ^
Unfortunately, both were injured going into that game and we lost Bush before halftime. I don't think the offense was good enough to win that game but a 100% Gary Winnovich and Bush were why we were expected to win.
