Would you burn a redshirt if you felt that you could get good enough production from your #3 RB with Rawls or your #4 RB with Johnson/Hayes

If he's as good as any of those 3...and I think he is, I'd redshirt him. Unless he and ????? are your clear #1 and #2, why would you play Smith?

Go look back at how many carries Hayes had this year when the game mattered. Would you burn a redshirt to give Smith that many carries?

I wouldn't.

The only reason "I redshirtted" (I hate when people sound like they're Coach Hoke typing - hence my quotes) Dymonte was because of the SS depth by moving Gordon to the position.

I really don't see him sitting next year, but when you look at the depth chart, there is no reason for him to play. Furman is very good on special teams.

With that said, if Furman left, I'd include him as playing.

Also agree that we don't know what position some of these WR/CBs are playing. I just left them at CB for now. With that said, I took Stribling because he was at camp and the coaches got to see him...AND he's bigger.

We've had a string of little Cass Tech CBs and none of them have done anything early in their career other than recover a couple key fumbles. Lewis could be different, but I left him redshirtted with Hollowell and Richardson already in the lineup.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think Dymonte is too talented to keep off the field and Jourdan Lewis has been very highly praised at camps as a CB and he has DECENT size.  Stribling is a wildcard and I've only seen limited video on him, so I just assume redshirt.

  • I think Norfleet plays a "role" on offense/defense and starts on special teams

  • I took away the third WR position, but I think Darboh or Jackson actually starts as your WR1, Gallon as WR2, Dileo starts in the slot.

  • Lewan...YES!!!!!!

  • I've got Bosch burning the redshirt next year since he's coming in now and playing all spring. I also think we add one more OL and this helps break up the OL class.

  • If another OL avoids the RS, I think it's Kugler, it may be wishful thinking that Burzynski can backup Miller at Center

  • I wouldn't be surprised of Ojemudia starts at WDE...I just didn't want to add another /

  • Wormley and Godin are likely going to move inside, but 3-Tech and 5-Tech are interchangable with Mattison. Think Heininger and RVB.

  • Is Wilkins still going to be around?

  • LB will be a fun battle. Does Ross push Morgan to MLB? Those positions are also interchangable. Do Ross and Bolden keep Morgan out of the starting lineup all together?

  • CB is a mystery, it's WEIRD that we didn't see these younger Cass guys playing in the Outback Bowl - scary weird, not good weird.

  • At safety, I have Jarrod Wilson beating out Marvin Robinson for the #2 safety with Thomas Gordon. With Wilson on the field, that pushes Gordon to SS.

  • I don't think Dymonte will redshirt, but when you look at the depth chart...there really isn't a reason for him to play if Furman stays.

Hence the quotes...but I always label them as "WAAY TOO EARLY" until the fall.

The fall depth chart won't look like this with attrition and position changes.

Oh, and ask and you shall receive! (Note: I posted this 9/29/12 - so it hasn't been updated)

On paper, that defense is ridiculous, mainly because at first I thought "whoa look at that LB group" and then I thought "wait look at that front 7!" and then I just went "Dear Gawd that secondary!!!"

Also, the thought of Derrick Green running behind that o-line is pretty awesome too.

Don't worry Magnus ill save you the shame of a selfish plug. Check Touch The Banner for the latest 2013 Michigan depth chart. It's grrrrrrreat!

I don't think we have heard anything "official" but everything coming from Hoke & Co. seems to assume that he will get his RS. Will make it interesting in '14 with a RS Sr. DG and Shane (hopefully) coming off a RS year.

I thought Nathan Brink was gone, and I remember hearing Poggi say he was going to start out at SDE until he bulked up. Honestly down the road I wouldn't be surprised if Godin stayed at SDE longer, or didn't move inside at all, because he's 6'6", and also because we'll have enough depth at DT, or enough guys like Wormley and Poggi moving inside already by the time he's able to.

Bring Lewan back really gives the OL a boost in my opinion.  Sure the OGs and C will be unproven but having two experienced OTs can mask some of the inexperience IMO.

I think Smith gets a shot next year, regardless of whether we land Green.  I don't think there's anyone currently on the roster that the Coaches feel comfortable with (assuming Fitz isn't 100% to start the season) and the staff will be eager to see if any of the new guys show that spark that we've been missing.  I think the only way Smith possibly redshirts is if Fitz is 100% and we land Green who proves to be the stud we think he is.  Even then, if one RB gets injured and misses any length of time, I think the RS will come off.

I think the freshmen RBs will get a chance next year, too. Green or not. I think that with our line improving between the tackles that our returning backs will have something of a renaissance and might be able to hold some of them off. They showed us next to nothing this year, but that wasn't totally on them.

Whoa...     I thought this upcoming 2013 year was Gardner's  medical redshirt gift...   so am I to understand that its not, and that its 2014, and thus Gardner will be playing another two seasons here???  Someone please answer.

Mr. Rager

January 10th, 2013 at 12:16 PM ^

Our line would be much better off if Schofield can move back to Guard and Braden can start at RT.  If this happens - you will see significant improvement in our line play in 2013.  Book it.

Oost

January 10th, 2013 at 12:29 PM ^

I'm not sure why so many people say we'd be better off with Schofield on the inside and Braden at tackle.  What if Schofield's the better tackle? Maybe it's just me, but Braden seems to fit the guard profile better than Schofield; he's got more bulk and is much more of a pile driver than Schofield.

I can see us overachieving next year and winning the Big Ten, before really hitting our stride in 2014 and challenging for a title.

If we dont get Green I'm hoping Deveon Smith doesn't RS. I'm hoping he is so productive he out shines every other back on the roster.

If the Weakside DE position has problems like 2012 i'm hoping Taco doesn't redshirt and is so productive he outshines every other DE at the position.

There is no way Devin Gardner plays WR next year. I've seen Shane Morris and there is no way he doesnt RS.

I just really want TJ yeldon/ Clowney type freshman production from a position of need please.

I would be very surprised if Jourdan Lewis, Dymonte Thomas, and/or Delano Hill redshirt.. At the very least, following the Royce Jenkins-Stone and Amara Darboh usage, these guys will play on special teams, and if they play on special teams they might as well get some PT at their future positions.
