Thank you for that link! The kid looked real good on that run. That's just raw talent! Was that RR in the background with the hat on smiling (You'll have to look at the slow replay).

Is there something wrong with me if the thing that stood out to me most in that video, after last year's tackling fiasco, is Booboo just throwing a shoulder into him instead of trying to wrap up?

WOW, that is impressive. To be able to break tackles while stumbling from having just broken another tackle - that is athletic ability. I am not sure exactly which kind - balance, flexibility, quickness, agility - "float like a butterfly" comes to mind as a good descriptive. I hope he keeps this up and brings that #2 back to glory. edited the reference to Ali - oops

My (wildest) hope is he becomes a 5'6'' version of pre-NFL Reggie Bush. The play that comes to mind is the USC/FSU game from 2004ish where Bush runs up the left side, stops on a dime to let an FSU defender fly by in front of him, reverses field and cuts across into the end zone for a TD.

One positive is that he seems to have a fairly low center of gravity. I think one of McGuffie's problems last year, besides being a tad bit small (freshman, only one year in the weight program etc), was his upright running style that gave opposing defenders the chance to just tee off on him. Hopefully Vincent will not have the same problem.

That was pretty awesome. I second the notion that his low center of gravity can be quite an asset. Those big guys have to get REALLY low, even relatively for their size, to get this guy down which is something to watch. Also, for McGuffie, I too agree his upright running style contributed to his concussions and hard hits. But I also think the fact that we had so many problems with fumbling he was often forced to run with 2 hands on the ball which made it even harder for him to deflect hits, keep his balance, stiff-arm, etc. Those factors probably had a big role as well.

It was JUST one run. Should we be getting worked up over our tackling ability based on one run during a drill that favors the offense? Tackling last year wasn't great, so I recognize the concern, but still.

I don't think the amazing part of that run was that he never went down because with sure tackling he would have. However, the fact that with all the contact he encountered, that run was quite impressive. In the same circumstance in a game, he would likely go down. But this shows that there will be instances where, if our opponents tackling isn't spot on, Vincent Smith will be able to make some big things happen.

BAR-RY! BAR-RY! BAR-RY! Poor tackling, sure, but Mike Hart made a living on simply not succumbing to arm tackles and shoulder hits. Smith looks like he will be fun to watch for the next few years.

It was a great run don't get me wrong but, that movie itself showed that some of the defensive players dont understand the concept of tackling just yet.
