Video of Juwan telling his side of the story on his ejection
Overall seems to match what we see in the video
Jesus I love this guy.
I would so run through a fucking wall for him.
Just don’t run through a wall AT him.
Even more, I'd love my kid to play for him.
Also posted by Pepper Brooks in the original "Juwann ejected" thread. Yes I know the thread title was misspelled.
Everybody knows it's spelled Juwwan
That spelling can keep getting adjusted to represent the dubs.
Juwwwwwwwwww... wwwwan.
Ruddddddock
For those of us who can't listen and also don't have x ray vision to read his lips through the face mask, care to summarize?
Juwan was complaining about a call and in order to get the refs attention he stepped too far down the court according to Turgeon. Turgeon tattled on Juwan and then Juwan laughed and that set Turgeon off. Turgeon charged at Juwan saying “don’t ever talk to me” and Juwan reacted defensively. That’s about it really
This is a perfect summary. Expected a juicier story, but this is it
Turgeon doesn't like how Juwan massages the refs during games
Because Turgeon is a little bee-otch.
Turgeon doesn’t like how Coach Howard completely out-coached him.
Hmmm. Has he seen Izzo coach? That shit is deep tissue
Izzo finally got T'd up yesterday. Long time coming.
Can't embed tweet but this site has video showing Turdgeon kinda charging Howard, yelling at him and pointing his finger, starts at about the 0:25 mark. NOT the top video but the video farther down in the tweet by Wes Brown:
Izzo has stepped too far down the court every game for the last 15 years. If you’re going to penalize a coach for this, you have to penalize all of them.
Izzo is damn near on the center circle of the court at points.
It seems like Turgeon has been whining to the B1G about Juwan leaving the coaching box and he doesn't appreciate it. This was the straw that broke Testudo's back.
I think that it was extremely petty to complain about it to Mommy and then have a temper tantrum over it.
But, Juwan could have shown a bit more restraint, too.
Great theater, but not a great look. I'm glad he apologized to his players over it.
But, I love this coach.
That’s not what happened...
Juwan was the one who did the initial “charging” and an official stepped in front of him. Turgeon had his back turned & then turned and took 2-3 steps towards Juwan after Juwan already went towards him, then after the ref stepped in he went back & Juwan kept screaming & circled around a second time & had to be held by his assistants.
Two officials on the court & the 4th official at the table witnessed the entire event, thus Juwan receiving two technicals & ejected. I witnessed it in person and Juwan lost his cool. Turgeon had his back turned most of the time while Juwan was still going after him. The self defense excuse is laughable.
Did you watch the video? You can see Turgeon react to Juwan complaining to the referee about the call. That when he reacted to Turgeon.
You're way off on the initial incident. Juwan was standing 1 step inside half court for quite a while (trying to talk to the refs according to him), and suddenly Turgeon came from his huddle very angry at Juwan. They each got a tech for this incident. Juwan got ejected a bit later because he kept at it (and he absolutely deserved it).
The replay that comes from the angle behind Juwan shows this all clear as day.
Also, "self-defense" is a specific term that does not equal acting defensive nor defending yourself or our team. I'm pretty sure Juwan wasn't saying he felt his body or life was in danger. If I insult you and you answer back, you are defending yourself, but you are not acting in "self-defense."

How can you watch this video (0:28 mark specifically) and state that Howard was the initiator, he clearly yells but it's Turgeon that gets close.

He apologizes and take responsibility for his actions then explains his side of the story. He says that he walked over to talk to the refs about an out of bounds call he disagreed with, then Turgeon started complaining to the refs about him being out of the coaching box, then he told Turgeon "come on man, I'm just trying to discuss something" then Turgeon "charged" at him telling him "don't talk to me, don't ever talk to me" then he went into defense mode
Turgeon can talk to Juwan, but not the other way around. Double standard. Got it.
This may have been the extent of the interaction between Howard and Turgeon but I refuse to believe this is the whole story. I think Howard was really set off by something a player/Morsell said. Howard probably has decided to not rat out a student athlete. I refuse to believe Juwan would get THAT mad at this interaction with Turgeon. I respect Howard for not throwing Morsell under the bus publicly but I bet he really wants to.
Completely agree, Coach Howard has not been prone to anything resembling a short fuse, there's more behind this situation either from the first two games and supposed "complaint with the conference" or with something one of the players said.
That's just Turgeon doing spin/damage control. If he had more character, he would have been straightforward about any lingering issues, just like Juwan was in his presser.
Racist southerners in Maryland
I'm on your side, Coach.
And if Turg the Twerp "calls the league office", he'd better call out Izzo and his 2 hours of chasing refs and players all over the court.
Turgeon doesn't mind when Izzo does it because Izzo's white
Juwan will take some heat for this for claiming that little Mark Turgeon was charging him, but I don't care about any of that. This is a great little spicy jolt of adrenaline to get the post-season going. We needed a spark.
Yep, after a rather flat finish to the regular season, this is the 2020-21 team's "plane crash". Allez Les Bleus!
Well it is an accurate account of what occurred... Howard was standing near Maryland's bench, Turgeon says something to him, then starts screaming and pointing at Juwan while walking towards him.
Why will he take heat? Have you seen the video? Turgeon literally charged at him. It's not like there's zero evidence to back it up
I think it's just a semantics thing - charging implies a threat of physical violence which just from Turgeon's actions wasn't there. But clearly the intonation and what he said made Juwan defensive.
Turgeon shouldn'tve flipped like that over a small comment which probably caught Juwan off guard. But Juwan shouldn'tve tried to act like he wanted to beat his ass either.
I like the fire. Most Michigan fans do, I’m sure. His team sure as hell does.
It'll be sarcasm more than heat...sort of like this from the MD 247 site:
Howard had a different version of the events. claiming Turgeon "charged" him. The 6-foot-10 former NBA star said he was acting in self-defense against the 5-10 Turgeon.
Sounds like Turgeon forgot you don't talk shit to people bigger than you and expect to get away with it. Doesn't he know coach is from the streets?!?...shiiiit.
take the train to fist city....
Turtles ? are always built low to the ground.
After watching the video though, Turgeon's language and body language towards Coach Howard was extremely aggressive and uncalled for. He was clearly the instigator when Coach Howard is just trying to get the Ref's attention.
Sorry to go against the grain, but Juwan was in the wrong here.
If you listen to the video, his *own* words, he said that 'when a grown man charges you, you gotta defend yourself.'
His confrontation, however, was with Turgeon.
Howard admitted he was wrong, explained his side, and again said he was wrong.
I think you missed the joke, friend
I missed the joke too until your comment.
so what turgeon did was ok? that's BS. keep in mind, this was during a TO. and juwan came to half court during a TO. so turgeon comes at juwan for that? like juwan said, give me a break. that said, juwan did overreact.
dammit. i missed the joke too.
