UW Huskies junior running back Salvon Ahmed to enter 2020 NFL draft

Submitted by MJ14 on January 3rd, 2020 at 10:57 PM

Ahmed’s going, all right. The 5-foot-11, 196-pound running back announced Friday that — like redshirt junior quarterback Jacob Eason and junior tight end Hunter Bryant — he has decided to enter the 2020 NFL draft. Washington will open its season against Michigan on Sept. 5 with a new head coach, offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, starting quarterback, starting running back and starting tight end.

Washington will also be replacing 3 starting offensive lineman. Link to original story : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.seattletimes.com/sports/uw-husky-football/uw-huskies-junior-running-back-salvon-ahmed-to-enter-2020-nfl-draft/%3famp=1

Hunter Bryant was Washington’s leading receiver this season as a tight end. So they’ll lose their leading rusher and receiver along with their starting QB. Washington’s offense will have to replace at least 8 starters. Along with their leading receiver leaving they’ll also be losing their #1 WR. So they’ll need to replace a ton of production on the offensive side of the ball. The defense could bring back as many as 9 starters. The two all-conference players were both juniors and have announced they will return for their senior seasons. They have one more player left to announce on the defensive side of the ball.

Not worried about Washington...worried about @Minnesota, PSU and the depth of the B1G. No not OSU...that's a L, but the new expectation is 11-1 and get to the Rose Bowl or a NY6 bowl and win it.

Definitely can't look past a west coast road trip versus a power 5 program. They may lose a lot of players but the HC is the former OC, so it's not like there'll be a total overhaul. Plus their defense was already their strength, so if they'll be even better next year it will be tough for Michigan's offense. It's still a game Michigan should win.

Yeah, we are 0-5 on the road against PAC-10 teams over the last 30 years. Last win was against UCLA in that crazy game in 89. Generally, those weren't great teams we were playing either. Our record in the Rose Bowl is also well known. Past is the past and small sample size caveats apply, but still, winning against decent teams on long road trips is tough. Will be interesting to see how the OL holds up. While there is talent and some experience, historically this much OL turnover plus a first year QB tends to lead to more of the 8-5 type season for us. UW should be pretty good on defense.

This is not true. Ratings and rankings will play a part. The loser of the big ten title game could be 8-3 Nebraska or Wisconsin or Minnesota or Iowa. So there are scenarios where we could go to the rose bowl. Also, the rating were really high for ABC for Michigan-Alabama, Michigan will get priority for bowls m. Now, whether that should be our goal or not is an entirely more complicated discussion.

I'm more worried about Washington than Minnesota just because Washington has a lot more experience being at a top level and Minnesota won a lot of close games (6-1 in one-score games) and that type of close luck can change on you.  Still a very tough team.

It's a tough conference.  Nothing is easy.

This is great news! Our defense is still guaranteed to give up several big passing plays/breakdowns probably a couple touchdowns in a tough road environment while our offense breaks in a new quarterback in a tough road environment while we try to lean on our running game with an entirely new interior starting offensive line... in a game where we'll inexplicably abandon the run game once it starts working in order to pass the ball on 2nd and short and miss several low percentage deep passes while coach khaki pants bends over and puts his hands on his knees in frustration. I'm not saying we'll lose this game I'm just not so confident that this game is not still a coin flip at best if we do win it will probably be in spite of some of the coaching decisions... Giles Jackson returning a kickoff or Blake corum hiting a big touchdown run etc. In a low scoring 23-27 type affair. You can neg away but don't say I didn't warn you ahead of time! Brace yourselves the Huskies are coming!

We are returning a lot aside from OL and Qb experience. We SHOULD win this game. But last game we won on the West Coast was the 98 Rose Bowl? Only thing holding me back from being confident is that and Harbaugh’s track record on the road.

It’s good news.

Game still makes me nervous. I’m in BPONE.

  • Away game
  • West Coast
  • Washington is a good team with talent
  • New QB
  • 4 new OL

Lots of variables we just don’t know. This will be a toss up.

If Michigan can’t beat this version of Washington then I agree, there are deeper issues.

I wouldn't be shocked if Washington isn't ranked to start the year. Even if they are, they certainly won't be a top 15 team that Michigan struggles with. In other news, Jonathan Taylor is going pro. Schedule is setting up nicely for next year even if the team isn't any better.

Michigan has been at least a top 15 program under Harbaugh. More like top 10. I understand some pessimism but I'm tired of people somehow imagining this is a 7-5 program. I'm not worried about the offense next year. OL should take a step back but they'll be fine. Looking forward to 2nd year Gattis.

Totally not cherrypicking at all there! Also, I've never seen an offense so utterly confused and in chaos as Iowa was against us, so no. That was a close game, but I still never felt it was in doubt really.

We're closer to 7-5 than a championship even though OSU was literally a dropped 2-point conversion away from us winning the division last year. Sure thing.

In what universe is this team close to a Big Ten Championship? We’ve been blown out by OSU 3 out of 5 times, and lost to them by double digits, 4 out of 5.

You criticize me for cherry-picking, and then you just did the EXACT same thing with that OSU-Maryland game... we almost lost to NW last year, so don’t think we were immune from close games against inferior teams either. Plus were so far from beating OSU in 2018 that this is a laughable take. And yes, the rest of the conference is laughing at us.

We will be lucky to win 9 games next year.

Michigan's road record against ranked teams is obviously not good. But I remember someone here checking the numbers and every program besides the elite ones have bad records. Winning against ranked teams on the road is hard. But I don't think Washington will be that good next year thankfully. Certainly not a gimme game though.

If BPONE has taught us anything, it is that these developments are never good when they happen to a Michigan opponent. Expect all the coaching staff to be replaced by world beaters, the next QB to throw for 5500 yds next season, the RB to go for 250 on the ground against us, and a tight end that makes Tony Gonzalez look like a high school player.

Should be a close game. UM will have to break in four new offensive lineman. I'm confident they have guys on the roster that can do the job well. Will they be clicking the first game? Chances are, they will not be.

UM will have a new QB that we don't know will be an upgrade or not.

Unless Washington turns out to be a tomato can next season, I expect a close game and lean to a loss as UM fails in these situations more often than succeeds.
