The Unrestrained Michigan Hype Thread

Submitted by UMProud on

Many of us are getting unrestrained tingling, shakes and inability to sleep.  Saturday is almost here and Wolverine fans everywhere are going batshit crazy with anticipation.

Let's unleash our inner homers and climb on the hype train.  I have a first class seat and believe Team 137 is very special.  Who can beat us?  Who can play 4 quarters with iron men who have been in an MMA cagefight for weeks fighting for a job on this team?  What other college teams look like an NFL franchise when they take the field?  Who else has Harbaugh?

Who's Got It Better Than Us?

I'm so close to quitting my job because my rat bastard of a boss scheduled me to work the weekends as soon as the football season started. Now, if this was year 6 of the Brady Hoke regime...well maybe I'd be okay in skipping the game.

But why the hell would I want to miss this?!

screw you boss, I quit! and go blue.

There wasn't that much reason for optimism in '97. It was clear early on that our defense could be special but this year is hyped X 10,000 at least. The nice thing about 97 was there wouldn't have been the huge letdown we will have this year should we lose a game. This team has a lot to live up to for many. I'm still trying to keep my expectations to 11 wins but it's hard.

Coming off of 1996, the preseason of 1997 was actually pretty damn quiet in comparison to what is happening right now. I think it took most people about halfway through the schedule that year to realize that this team was perhaps about to do something special, or at least that's how it felt to me. This preseason has been more or less unrestrained hype from start to finish, at least much of it has.

In '97, Michigan was coming off a seemingly endless string of mediocre 4-loss seasons.  It was Lloyd's 3rd year after taking over for Moeller and there were rumblings about whether he could even do the job.

I would categorize it as a general expectation of standard Michigan excellence.  They were expected to win the conference, like M was expected to every single year.  And Carr better not lose 4 (bleeping) games again.

97 was great. Started the year #14 in the preseason polls. No crazy hype. That little fuck Corso picked Michigan to lose every week. "This is the game where we see Michigan is just a pretender," or some crap like that. Every season after with a lot of hype has been a let down. I have nothing left and need to see Harbaugh deliver a beat down on October 29th.

Michigan will score so many points every week, that by the time the conference schedule gets here there will be a running clock rule instituted. Just so some teams may save face.

We will win the 2016 National Championship, and then go back in time and win the missing half of the 1997 National Championship.
