Ty Isaac Return Week?

Submitted by Drew_Silver on

Ty Isaac is listed this week as an 'or' at the #3 RB spot (as he was last week)

Perhaps this is the week he gets himself back on the playing field?

running game was not that great vs. Indiana (although passing game seemed to work out just fine)

I wonder if PSU will attempt to take away the passing game in light of the most recent 2 games and be content watching us try to put together long drives with run plays.

he can get things on track.  I'm pretty sure most of us were hoping to see really big things from him.  Good luck Ty, we're hoping to see you rip some good runs still this fall!

Have no idea if the rumblings of an attitude issue are correct or not, but the feeling I get is that the coaches and players on this team won't stand for someone not giving full effort. Leadership seems strong from the top down with this team.

Did anyone feel during Ty's high school senior year that the competition he was facing was weak? This kid's lack of production is really baffling, more so than Green. Sometimes that can mean the high school competition made the player look much better than he really was.

Issac is on his third RB coach & offense (possibly run scheme) in 3 years. One of those years he sat out and couldn't play. Takes some time to shake that rust. By the time he did, he fumbled twice and lost carries because of it.

We have two 5 star and a 4 star RB from that class. None are producing at a level consistent with the hype we wish they could be. That's probably a combination of those guys being slightly overrated coming out, the constant change among the running schemes these guys went through, injuries, and our OL.

Plenty of time (2 more years of eligibility) for Issac to overcome those and be a special player here.

Isaac was also rated as an all-purpose back.

Does anyone on here know what the general distinctions are for that?

From what I follow, it's less of a smash-mouth style and more finesse, i.e. they can catch, sweep, take laterals, basically everything that's not in-between the tackles.

And at 6'3" 240 lbs, he seems like a tweener.

I don't think the RB coach/offense is an issue. Running back is pretty much the easiest position to adjust from coach to coach, especially considering that his offensive at USC, Hoke's Michigan, and Harbaugh's Michigan are fairly similar (pro-style, power, inside zone, etc.).

He's gotta block better, not fumble, and make better decisions/no stupid penalties on field.

I'd like to see him catch more.

But he needs to block better.

As a fan of both Michigan and CFB in general, Isaac seems to lope when he runs, and although fast, he's seems to lack the quick burst of acceleration that is the hallmark of a great RB. Further, while he loping along he seems to shy away from contact and, like we've all lamented about Green, go down easily. When looking at Isaac and Smith side by side it's obvious that Smith runs with far more determination and rage despite lacking the speed that Isaac allegedly possesses. I wish the best for the young man, and if he's learned his lesson (whether it's ball security, attitude, or not putting forth the effort the coaches demand) his talent is needed over the next two weeks!

I hope not this kid is the most over hyped kid I have ever seen on message boards. He's soft, doesn't practice hard, doesn't block, takes plays off and can't handle being yelled at in any form. He's a Diva and made to seem like he's some superior great athlete that just needs a chance when in reality he's just not very good. Watch his High School tape he played against some of the worst competition I have ever seen he was just bigger and faster than every team he played against and never faced but two division one defensive kids in two years.

Drake and Ty are the two best RBs with vision. I just think Ty is a little better at waiting for blocks to develop and then hitting the hole hard (there's a joke in there somewhere). Drake goes for the first hole he spots right away, whether it's big or small, instead of really waiting for blocking to develop. I kind of wish we'd bring back Zone Blocking. Ty and Drake would both excel.

seem to appear then disappear from one week to next with exception of Big Smith and Drake. Houma is getting the carries at tailback after those top two. My feelings of Ty and Derrick contributing for Michigan are subdued. I wonder if coach Harbaugh would have pursued Ty if he was coaching instead of coach Hoke?

I think the Ty seeming to "lope" along when he runs is a little deceiving. In part it's because he is letting his blocks set up, and in part I think his style is deceiving and he is going faster than he looks. Not a perfect comparison but to me Vince Young never looked as fast as he apparently was either.

I hope every running back is given a chance to improve things;  I have no idea why IU kept going for the play action, but it cannot be counted on PSU will not play smarter.
