Two of the three Cincinnati '23 commits from the state of Michigan are back on the market

Submitted by Cousin Larry on November 29th, 2022 at 10:26 AM

Cinci had three of the state's top-12 recruits committed.  Two of them decommitted since yesterday.

Brady Drogosh (QB, Warren De La Salle), #6 in the state and the #16 QB nationally, is still as of now committed to Cinci.  His 247 page does not list a Michigan offer.  Michigan, of course, does not currently have a QB in the '23 class.

Amare Snowden (DB, Roseville), #9 in the state and the #40 DB nationally, decommitted yesterday.  His 247 page does not list a Michigan offer.  Michigan just recently added their first DB commit.

Khamari Anderson (TE, Cass Tech), #12 in the state and the #25 TE nationally, decommitted this morning.  He does have a Michigan offer, and was at least at one time a hard Michigan lean.  Michigan currently has one TE commit in the class.

Do you think Michigan is going to push for any of these three?  They may just end up following Fickell to Wisconsin, but if nothing else there's an opening to try to add to our class.

Of the three, he seems at least the most likely since he was offered and at least had interest at one point in playing in Ann Arbor. Outstanding questions are whether he liked Fickell more than he liked the relative proximity of Cincinnati to home, whether Wisconsin has room on their roster, and whether Michigan does.

Brady will follow Luke to Wisconsin. DB is 50-50 to follow. Michigan is set with the DBs they have taken and a few they are about to wrap up. Anderson is a possibility. Also a strong possibility he ends up at MSU or Wisconsin. Anderson wasn’t a take over some of the other tight ends Michigan was after. Michigan ended up striking out on a few of their higher ends guys, but they are happy with who they have. So it’s questionable whether he is a take. It’s probably 40% Wisconsin, 35% MSU and 25% Michigan. If he’s a take for Michigan now and Michigan reaches out quick, there’s a lot better possibility of Michigan bringing him in.

I’m not sure why M wouldn’t bring in Drogosh just for depth and see what you have.  Worst case is he’s fighting with freshman Davis and Davis Warren in 2 years if he beats those two good signing if not he still has 3 years eligibility.  Tape looked good just a head scratcher why he hasn’t been offered.  I know M was only recruiting Moore at QB for a while but that ship sailed maybe think they don’t need one this cycle.  Count me in the take at least one per cycle camp.

Ohhhhh nice - I really like Brady Drogosh as a prospect!  I hope the staff at least kicks the tires again.

He could be the perfect 2023 QB that has a high floor and is compatible with a high ceiling prospect like Jadyn Davis in 2024.

It would be great for us, but not sure why he would come here. JJ* is the starter next year, and then J Davis (alone with Davis Warren, who will be a grown man at that point) will compete to be a starter in 2024.

I don't see how he ever gets out of 3rd position at Michigan, so I'd go to Wisconsin if I were him. Graham Mertz is not good, and the next guy who will be backing him up is currently a true freshman.

*(Whoops -- not Dylan! What a dumb mistake. Too many "D" names on the brain)

The guy I would be interested if I was Michigan is the DB who entered the transfer portal from Cincy. I would imagine Wisconsin and OSU are going to push hard for him. He’s going to be a player and would be a nice addition to Michigan secondary.

My gut says - these young men and their families will schedule a visit to Madison.  And, IMO, Madison is a great town.

Fickell's introductory press conference and interview on the Big Ten Network were a good "listen".  Fickell will be meeting with all of the current Wisconsin players - as well as speaking / meeting with their commits.   His approach is straightforward and seems to be a good fit with the Badgers.

It would not surprise me in the least if these three committed to Wisconsin.

It still doesn't make sense to skip a class when recruiting QBs, especially in the Portal era. Cade is gone, JJ could leave after next year, and both freshmen are large projects (and what's to keep one of them from looking somewhere else at this point next year?).

I'd think it's in their best interests to look for another guy just in case, no?

Yes and no. We took two QBs last year and while they’re both projects, they’ll be in year 3 before JJ leaves* so one would assume they’re at least serviceable by that point.

Add in J Davis as a true freshmen and possibly Davis Warren (could transfer for playing time).

This goes both ways. While you’re worried about losing current players to the portal, you can also go out and grab players out of the portal to fill holes. I don’t think grabbing a guy just to grab a guy is the way to go as long as you have current depth, which we do.

I think it depends somewhat. I haven’t seen any draft grades on him yet, but unless you’re a projected top 15 pick I don’t see much reason for a QB to leave early. Depending on where he ends up being projected, I could see him back for year 4. I’m not banking on it, but I wouldn’t say he’s gone for sure yet

I wonder if Snowden has a bit more potential than advertised. He spent a good amount of time in HS training for baseball. If that time had been spent solely on football….

Drogosh would be someone who we should very much consider pushing hard for. He could be a very good college QB and fill in well between JJ and Davis.

Khamari Anderson has the family ties to Raheem, and you can never have too many tight end prospects.

I have coached twice against Snowden and was not impressed with him as a DB. He showed more as a receiver but was not a gamebreaker there as well. I may be bias because his dad who is Roseville's coach is a poor-mans Jermaine Crowell with his recruiting and blatant cheating. He has great size but isn't particularly physical. Also seems to have a bit of a temper (was ejected this year for throwing a punch vs us). Without Tyrell Henry this year (current MSU player) the focus was on him and I just didn't see the 4* player. He actually is a better baseball player than football player. He's a lefty who throws near 90 mph.

I'd love to see Drogosh land with M! Regarding the earlier comment about M being all in on Jadyn Davis, it would be weird to me if signing Drogosh in '23 was a deterrent to Davis signing. Drogosh may have a fine career, but I wouldn't expect him being a major obstacle to Davis winning the job. And if Drogosh IS a major obstacle, we're probably pretty pleased we have him. This program is all about competition, right?

Hard pass on all 3.

Let them go to Wisconsin. It’s like a couple years ago when Wisconsin raided the state it ended up getting Crist fired because as upper class men they weren’t any good.

I don't think Michigan is going to go after Drogosh. If they were, they would have done so already.

I don't see Snowden being a fit at Michigan. I haven't been a big fan of his film from 10th/11th grade, though I have not watched any of his senior film yet, so maybe something changed.

Michigan has two tight ends that are better than Khamari Anderson, so I don't think they would go after him. He's Raheem Anderson's younger brother, by the way.

Yeah his commitment to Cincy isn’t something that would have kept Michigan from pursuing in the first place. If Michigan was interested, they would have made a move.

Michigan has plenty of QBs on the roster right now and the portal is always an option. Just seems like Michigan doesn’t want to fill the slot just to say they filled the slot.

Passing on Raheem's little brother is surprising to me. Taking siblings is a time honored tradition. I'm sure they have their reasons, of course.

I thought I remembered Sam saying something about M sniffing around Drogosh a few weeks back, and he might be receptive to a flip. I trust your hunch over my memory, Magnus!

We won't offer Drogosh for two reasons: 1) we have enough confidence in Davis Warren as our current back-up; 2) the way you get QBs like Davis is by not taking a QB the year prior.
