Tressel's resignation a recruiting nightmare for Sparty?

Submitted by BoBo24 on
I know this sounds counterintuitive, but is it possible that OSU's nightmare is also bad for Sparty? Could this be a two-fer for UM? Even Sparty acknowledges that we are killing it in Michigan this year. If this scandal makes it difficult for OSU to land top tier OOS talent and the Buckeyes are forced to focus almost exclusively in state, where does MSU realistically turn next? It seems almost inconceivable that top tier Ohio kids would ever pick MSU over OSU no matter how ugly the situation in Columbus gets.

When I was trying to learn video ebedding I couldn''t get it to work. Then I noticed YouTube had an option to  "use old embed code" embedding format. You have to use the old code on this blog or it won't work.

Follow all those steps above as described, just make sure you switch the format and you're golden.

And Presto:

They are probably thinking that they will come in and swoop all of the top Ohio talent. That's obviously why they let us have the Michigan players.

Michigan's class is getting pretty close to full, and OSU obviously has issues. There's an opportunity for someone to step in and steal some serious talent from the state of Ohio this year. With Dantonio's ties to the state, I don't see any specific reason it can't be MSU.

and how that would blow Sparty back to oblivion.  That's about as much attention I will allow myself to give lil' bro today. I'll get back to thinking about them in October.

I figured you were going to speculate about Dantonio's history with Ohio State and if what is going on in the buckeye state was happening when he was there might it might be going on at MSU now.

I'm not sure the impact on recruiting short term. I mean, there will be some for sure, but I think long term the impact could be significant.  If the NCAA were to slap OSU with sanctions similar to what USC got - specificially a recduction and limitation of scholarships it could open Ohio up to a lot of programs. The state is already heavily recruited but even more top kids could leave for places like Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame not to mention other Big 10 schools, WVU. The real danger is SEC schools getting a foothold and siphoning off top tier talent out of Ohio. That would not only hurt the buckeyes but Michigan as well not to mention the Big 10 in general.

I was thinking that recruits would believe that Dantonio would leave MSU for OSU and therefore wouldn't want to sign with MSU.

That this news would set up a situation wherein NONE of the potential recruits at OSU, MSU or even Nebraska could be certain who their coaches might be in a year or two if they signed with any of those schools.  And that "uncertainty" would hurt them all, like "uncertainty" hurts everybody in the stock market.

I'll say this; if OSU named Mark Dantonio as the permanent head football coach to replace Jim Tressel, they'd be taking a step backwards in terms of integrity and morality.

There.  That's my trashtalk contribution for this historic day.

Saint Dantonio has already been mentioned as being on "the list" of candidates after this season.  If enough rumors get started, it could be a recruiting nightmare for Sparty.  It would be great if Dantonio contacted an "old friend" from TSIO and the media found out.

Dantonio is too closely tied to Tressel to even be considered. Then again Dantonio is well known to rule with an iron fist, so perhaps with that reputation he could overcome the Tressel ties... he can continue their very strict player control.

"Sparty's attitude towards beating Michigan reminds me of a pimply-faced 17 year old who just got his first kiss and now walks around thinking that he's a pimp."

I'm sure MSU will pull in some kids from Ohio now, but this is also MSU we are talking about - kids in Ohio are not going to be wowed by one shared B1G title and a demolition in a bowl game.  Heck, MSU has as many B1G titles in the past years as Northwestern, Purdue, and Illinois.

Playing time.  MSU might not be able to pull the cream of the crop but you'll inevitably get kids that want PT at MSU rather than ride pine at OSU.

Interesting speculation, but we won't know for a while yet how this effects recruiting.  Tressel's exit from the stage destroys the "fence" he and his staff had built around Ohio, but it's anyone's guess what happens from here.
