TomVH: DB Wayne Morgan Update ** & DB Yuri Wright Offered

Submitted by TomVH on

I just spoke to one of the high school coaches for New York DB Wayne Morgan (5'11", 180 lbs). Michigan coach Curt Mallory spoke with Wayne last night, and there could be an offer coming soon, if it didn't come last night. Wayne's high school coach wasn't positive if they did offer or not, I'll have more on that later when I talk to Wayne.

Morgan currently plays quarterback, free safety/corner for his high school team, and he's widely viewed as one of the top prospects in their area. His most recent offer was from Alabama, he also has offers from Miami, Penn State, and Boston College among others.

Here's a look at his junior film.

**New Jersey DB Yuri Wright (6'2", 180 lbs) said that Michigan has offered. Also reporting offers from North Carolina, Florida, Notre Dame, and Pitt as well as a few others.

If I wasn't a dude, I would offer to have your children, as many as you wanted, and you could use your super human powers to determine the gender of the children. Personally, I think we should have nonuplets, all boys of course and breed them to become 5 star studs that take up each starting position on the offensive and defensive lines at the University of Michigan.

it is amazing that schools like Texas, and Texas A&M have over 10 commits already. and schools like YTM have 7 or 8 already too.

we seem to be offering a lot of kids, and hopefully we get some guys who are IN LOVE with M and start this thing off.

seems like we are off to a slow start versus some of the other national programs

with what you are saying. my point about miami tho is similar to our situation. new coach, new staff, still a national program and they are pulling in recruits. florida is also in a similar boat.

im not worried by any means about the future 2012 class, im just excited to see who wants to be here. it seems like some of these guys should have M as their "dream school" and say yes right away!

does anyone here recall how early we have traditionally began gaining verbal commits? or is this on par with our past?

I'm starting to itch waiting for someone to commit. Hopefully by next month someone joins the Michigan family, that should get the ball rolling for others to follow suit. A good "Hello" post takes that itch away for a little while.

Edit: Wow thisisme, we are thinking the same thing.

i feel like every guy we have been offering lately has a bama offer.  I have no evidence of this but I have seen it allot lately. I remember urban meyer talking during the NSD about his tactics  of looking at ( i think LSU) any guy they would offer, he would do as well because there scouts seemed to find the diamonds in the class... is there a chance michigan is taking that approach with the bama offers. Just curious if its a possibility,

: I know are staff is going crazy watching tape right now so i'm not saying there just throwing scholarships at them but maybe looking at who they offer and then they take a look at the prospect too?

thats exactly what I was hoping to hear, but i will say bama has some great talent coming in and out of that school and it wouldn't be a bad school to lurke in there shadow and steal some guys away. IMO

Rapidly approaching 90 offers three weeks from last year's NSD.  I don't ever recall this many offers going out so quickly.  The problem is it hasn't resulted in anything so far and I don't expect to for a while given the new coaching staff (unless it's a local kid).  That's one of the problems of bringing in a coach from a non BCS conference.  Odds are Hoke and crew weren't recruiting a vast majority of these kids at SDSU.  Now they have to build the relationships and it might take a while.

... can we just get the emails of all the Rivals 250 watch list and "BCC All" with an offer?  If you personalize the email, get quotes from Ray Lewis and Tom Brady, and doll it up a bit, you could see a 5% conversion rate.  That's 12.5 big time recruits right there.  Add in a few sleepers and it's a top 10 class.

Well, I go to their rival school. St. Peter's Prep, home of Savon Huggins, Sheldon Royster, D.J. Singleton(who I'm friends with). But besides that they do tend to let their athletes get by because they're athletes. There are the occasional rumors that they're pretty shady and do anything to win.
