Things you want to see from Football 2011

Submitted by Blazefire on

What are some things you most want to see from the 2011 football season?

First and foremost, I'm hoping Coach Hoke does a lot of pointing while on the sidelines as soon as possible. The pictures we have of him;

From the old days:

From SDSU:

And in a shirt and tie at the press conference:

are just not cutting it. We need some pictures of him in sideline gear pointing at Denard going "No, you da man!"

With the hiring of Mattison, I'm expecting a giant leap forward on D. I'm expecting the offense to score less points than last year, but turn the ball over less.

With that in mind, here's what I want to see:

9 wins

Beat the SHIT out of Little Bro

And either a 10th win, beating OSU, or winning the B10 West.

I know everybody is really excited for basketball next season. But I believe Hoke when he expects to win the B10. I'm really excited to take the country by storm this autumn, and watch this senior class work their tails off for a title.

Go Blue.

gives up less than 17 ppg.

An offense that converts 3rd and anything with punishing RBs and WRs that CANNOT be caught from behind.

Special teams that put the fear of god into opposing coaches.

AND...

4 to 1 positive TO ratio.

And one other thing......No scarlet/red/or gray in the BIg House in November.

I'm pumped for preseason hype videos. Those really get me going around the middle of August. Can't wait to see all the sweet highlights from 2010 Denard.

Even though we were guilty of playing poorly on defense through portions of seasons over the past 7,8 years, we usually got our poop in a group somewhere along the line and tightened up a bit around bowl season.

Our youngsters will be more experienced and should have good leadership from the DL and Woolfook and Novak in the secondary.  Would like to see Cam make a big leap this coming year and I look for Furman - almost all due to DR like athleticisim - make significant impact on the D also.  Think these two, along with yet another Robinson and Demens could help our all too long poor lbing play.

Want a semblance of unity among the fan base again also & would enjoy reading posts similar in spirit to those written about our round ball team, post Jan 15. Would be a significant sign that things are headed in right direction.

1. Troy Woolfolk healthy all season.

2. Campbell/Washington/Talbott/Ash taking care of business at 3-tech, so we can play Van Bergen at strongside DE.

3. Denard Robinson healthy all season.

4. At least one tailback becomes a legitimate threat.

5. Competition at the other CB spot, both safety spots, WLB, and SLB produces viable starters at every position. (Kovacs is already viable against the run, but isn't so good in deep zones.)

6. David Molk healthy all season.

7. At least one viable kicker.

Well,

  1. 3rd down stops on defense.  Seems we never had a problem getting to third down, but it seems we let the opponent convert around 70% of the time (usually for big yards).
  2. Make field goals

1. Anything resembling a Michigan quality defense

2. Shoelace not getting hit on every offensive play

3. Big Will Campbell to show why he was so highly rated in high school

4. Just to reiterate, SOMEBODY PLAY DEFENSE!
