Sunday BBall Conf. Champs Thread

Final day of championships on tap.

ATLANTIC 10, 12:30, CBS: St. Joseph's 87, VCU 74 Final

SEC, 1:00, ESPN: Kentucky 82, Texas A&M 77 Final/OT

SUNBELT, 1:00, ESPN2: Arkansas-Little Rock 70, Louisiana Monroe 50 Final

B1G, 3:00, CBS: Michigan State 66, Purdue 62 Final

AMERICAN, 3:15, ESPN: Connecticut 72, Memphis 58 Final

Rooting interests: St. Joseph's (possibly knock VCU out), Arkansas-Little Rock (keep auto bid from UL-Monroe), Purdue (RPI boost), UConn (keep auto bid from Memphis and RPI boost)

Edit: didn't realize St. Joe's is projected higher than VCU. VCU loss could knock them to the bubble or out.

This is driving me nuts. which color is UM in that bizarre B1G emblem on the court. Is one of the two yellows supposed to be our Maize? Or are we the dark blue one? (But if we are the blue, which is PSU and who is the other yellow besides Iowa?)

Our primary color is blue not maize; maybe they wanted a second light color?

11 team logo

12 team logo with a fifth reddish thing

14 team logo with the latest additions

It looks like this last one better separates 2 colors per team (instead of overlapping), unless that second color is white or doesn't exist.  From the top, here are my guesses (big slice then little slice) but that mess of red is just impossible to sort out:

  • Iowa Gold, Black
  • Michigan Maize, Blue
  • Illinois Orange, Blue
  • OSU Scarlet, Gray
  • Indiana Crimson, Cream?
  • Minnesota Maroon, Gold?
  • Wisconsin Badger Red and grayish slice instead of White?
  • Rutgers Scarlet with similar reddish little slice (no 2nd color)?
  • Nebraska Scarlet, Cream?
  • Maryland Red, Black (other colors are White and Gold)?
  • Northwestern Purple with similar purple little slice (no 2nd color)
  • Penn State Blue and a Big Tennish little blue slice instead of White
  • Michigan State Green and a greenish little slice instead of White
  • Purdue Old Gold, Black

Any better guesses?

This is what UConn does every few years. A meh regular season, gets hot at conference tournament time, gets into the Big Dance, and makes a run at a title.

Don't be surprised to see that team sneak into the Final Four in a few weeks.

I can't get over how Izzo wins an unbelievable percentage of March games that are tossups going into the final minutes.  It's uncanny.

(Though on the plus side, Beilein's also pretty good in those types of games this time of year.)

Maryland and Purdue are good, not great. Both probably should've come back and won. Here's to hoping, because sparty needs to sit in misery for a minute

MSU is good and well coached. But that school has been charmed, it's like whatever has to happen for them to win, will happen.
