Speaking of basketball, Todd committing was no real surprise
Big men committing to UM and Howard makes complete sense. Juwan Howard was one of the all time great big men in UM basketball history. I see many centers and power forwards committing to Howard and UM because that is the strength of Howard. He has so much to offer from teaching fundamentals to diversifying the offensive game to rebounding.
Howard was much more developed than Webber who relied more on his athleticism than Howard who was more of a technician.
The real challenge going forward for Howard will be obtaining perimeter players in the recruiting game. I expect Howard and UM to have plenty of highly touted recruits at 6'9 or above. Todd actually reminds me a little of Howard but much more athletic. Howard 3.0. Not necessarily better but much high ceiling coming from high school. Too bad is only here for a short period.
Great pickup.

My day in now complete since you graced me with this outstanding information.
October 21st, 2019 at 4:54 PM ^
He sure is, but by your logic coaches who played a position only get recruits at that position, which is why Avery Johnson didn’t last at Alabama—that 5 guard lineup couldn’t rebound.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:14 PM ^
They couldn’t shoot for shit either, but they had a ton of heart.
October 21st, 2019 at 8:44 PM ^
They had too much leadership as well.
October 21st, 2019 at 4:54 PM ^
Fascinating
October 21st, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
Webber is the top 3 most talented pf in NBA history.
October 21st, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
What exactly does that mean? Top 3 talented. Karl Malone, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Kevin McHale, Dirk Nowitski, and Charles Barkley all played power forward.
October 21st, 2019 at 10:40 PM ^
Before injuries derailed him, he was a better athlete than anyone on that list. Better passer than all of them too. Was he as consistent as the guys on that list? No, but prime C Webb was an absolute monster.
October 21st, 2019 at 5:10 PM ^
Wait? Juwan Howard played for Michigan?
October 22nd, 2019 at 1:05 AM ^
(checks notes) dear god it’s true
October 21st, 2019 at 5:14 PM ^
I’m so glad that 50% of the posts on this blog are random opinionated-based rants.
October 21st, 2019 at 5:15 PM ^
Is half the board on Ambien? That would really explain a lot.
October 21st, 2019 at 7:25 PM ^
Only if it's crushed up and snorted...
October 22nd, 2019 at 8:40 AM ^
This won't change.
October 21st, 2019 at 5:21 PM ^
Much higher ceiling than Howard? Apparently your only memories of Juwan are with the Miami Heat.
October 21st, 2019 at 11:04 PM ^
At the end of his career, he was a great bench player. He should be able to recruit a lot of those guys.
October 21st, 2019 at 5:22 PM ^
This just isn't information. At all
October 21st, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
Yeah I read the title and thought “sweet, some inside intel on his recruitment” NOPE!
October 21st, 2019 at 5:22 PM ^
"... only here for a short period."
Your assumption. And though you might be correct, it's also possible he sticks around for longer. Each recruit (and their family) has their own priorities regarding athletic goals, educational goals, long-term goals, being a "student - athlete", etc.
While I fully understand why many 5* recruits go the one-and-done route and I will wish Todd well if he goes pro after a season, let's not be hasty to make such an assumption.
October 21st, 2019 at 5:59 PM ^
I think we should be more hasty
October 22nd, 2019 at 5:07 AM ^
More hasty? OK, how's this:
Let's assume that once Todd gets here, he makes a mistake at a pivotal point during a big game. That way, some snotty little jackass can send him a kicking & screaming email that accuses Todd of wasting his tuition money on a scholarship, suggests he give up that game completely, and then leaves his phone number at the bottom.
You know - just to save time.
October 21st, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
I'm looking forward to the OP penning a "now THIS was a complete surprise" thread when Howard lands a five star guard.
It's like muppets, can't have one without the other.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:00 PM ^
I’m more looking forward to the ‘this board is silly, I bring a well rationalized opinion piece about sports to A SPORTS ( yeah he’ll/she’ll capitalize it) blog about OUR team and I get down votes, like what the hay!’
October 21st, 2019 at 5:32 PM ^
But have you emailed mother Todd to let her know and include your phone number?
October 21st, 2019 at 5:43 PM ^
Didn’t you hear? Todd is a PG.
October 21st, 2019 at 5:48 PM ^
Just like Ben Simmons
October 21st, 2019 at 5:55 PM ^
Glad to see you weighed in.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:00 PM ^
yeah, now that it happened, it is much less surprising.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:10 PM ^
Coach Howard better start experimenting with huge lineups because it sounds like we won’t have any guards or wings after the next couple years. It’s better we find out now if the 5-bigs lineup will actually work, and if not we need a new coach (preferably smaller like 6’5).
October 21st, 2019 at 6:44 PM ^
Both of our recruits from the last cycle (Bajema and Little Wagner) were both wings and Zeb is an incoming point guard
October 21st, 2019 at 7:33 PM ^
Yes, that’s why I said in a couple years, but I was just being sarcastic anyway. I fully expect Howard to land players that are smaller than he is.
October 21st, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
I have a confession. After my first post about Bell, I found the emotional reaction funny. I then decided to do another post about misleading stats to see if I could get another emotional reaction. I did. (Not a surprise). I then thought lets do another milder post and see the reaction.
It's so twitter mob like. Like an echo chamber. I promise no more posts for awhile but thanks for participating. Classic confirmation bias on my part. Make sure you downvote to complete my test.
October 21st, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
This is so much worse than your original post and it's not even close.
October 21st, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
Clearly this was unnecessary if you read the blog.
October 21st, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
You have to be 16 or younger. Am I right?
October 22nd, 2019 at 7:10 AM ^
michymich, leave and never come back. You have no place here. Wake up little man.
October 22nd, 2019 at 10:35 AM ^
OP makes stupid opinion thread and gets negged. Gets mad. Posts a second opinion thread and gets negged. Gets more mad. Posts this thread, gets negged yet again and claims "this is all a sociological test I was doing."
Sure it was ..... we believe you
October 21st, 2019 at 6:53 PM ^
I may be a dummy, but who was Howard 2.0?
October 21st, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
I think he means Todd is so much better than Howard 1.0 (Juwan Howard) than he skips Howard 2.0 and becomes Howard 3.0
October 21st, 2019 at 6:54 PM ^
We get these stupid posts people that are likely trolls, and I think michymich may be one of them. They seem to be crowding the board more than ever, both as posters and commenters. I am keeping track of people I identify this way by mentioning their name in my post. I am not the first one to say attention to this problem is urgently needed, and I don't think a blocking command is enough, because of the way they dominate discussion.
October 21st, 2019 at 7:52 PM ^
Edit: Youre right
October 21st, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
Spot on. The place is a free for all at this point.
October 21st, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
Todd is not really like Howard at all. But sure.
October 22nd, 2019 at 12:05 AM ^
Yes, but does every program he didn't pick get to say "of course, M bagmen win again"?
October 22nd, 2019 at 1:19 AM ^
We should never take any recruit for granted.
