Sparty Hate Thread Day One

Submitted by jsquigg on

So, MSU used to be #3 in the holy trinity of rivals.  Given recent events and the behavior of many friends and family who are Sparty fans, and MSU is very close to Ohio State in how much I hate their program.  The week has barely begun and too many Spartan friends are flooding social media, mocking Harbaugh and Michigan fans thinking they're "back."  I mostly keep to myself and always try to stay classy and respectful, but here's hoping Saturday is the beginning of the end for that program and their whining coach.  It was way more fun when they had legitimate reasons to feel inferior, but it is so predictable that the fans who were classless in losing are also sore winners who have to measure everything through the Michigan lens.

All my Sparty friends doing nothing but talk about injuries. You'd think with all those 11 win seasons they'd maybe have more depth...

I am 43 years old.  Michigan has dominated Sparty most of my life.  The past 7 years of Sparty doing well against Michigan isnt enough to make me hate Sparty.  I pity Sparty.

I despise Notre Dame, but rarely lose sleep when we fall to them.

I RAGING BLOOD-HATE OHIO STATE!  I honestly lack the necessary vocabulary to adequately describe how much I hate Ohio State.  The hate is real, bottomless and unrelenting.

This is where I fall in the spectrum. Not quite 43, but not far behind. Ended up going to a MAC school in Ohio on a track scholarship. Gave me a me a front row seat to OSU nuttiness, and emboldened in me a hate that cannot be outdone. Can't wait to get back to business as usual.

This is about Sparty Hate Day #10,000 for me. I guess it's a generational thing. I became a Michigan fan as a boy in the late '80s, I grew up in Michigan, and State fans have been assholes as long as I can remember. They'll always be Rival #2 to me, not ND or anyone else.

And I will say it every year during MSU week. I live in Lansing, but am from the east side of the state. I only hated sparty on game days, otherwise, they never bothered me. All of my hate was geared towards OSU and ND. I moved to Lansing and to hear these assholes and what they say about us, their constant bitching about all things Michigan, to hear how they treat us when we play there, they can kiss my ass. Live here a few minutes, and all you non MSU haters will change your tune. I hope we give them the NW treatment and blow them out of the damn stadium. Their tears will be delicious next Monday at work. Oh and fuck state.

I lived in lansing for one year, but it only took one WEEK to get my fill of sparty bullshit.  I will never forget a few years ago when they beat us in AA by two TDs...those bastards walking N on Main Street toward town, chanting their "Go Green" "Go White" all the way.  Every time they yelled "Go Green" - I responded "Go HOME" at the top of my lungs.  I hate those assholes... they're getting exactly what they deserve on Saturday.

When the Coach is building in the excuse before the game.  Even if he didn't think about it when he said it he thinks he is going to lose.

Everyone saying "I don't care about Sparty" is just as sad as the Sparties whining about how disrespected they are.

Of course you care. Of course you hat Sparty. Unless you're lucky enough to live somewhere with no Spartans, of course you want to win and rub their noses in it for all the crap you've gotten in the last 7 years (when history started according to Spartans).

You hate Dantonio and his whiny, obsessive, and goddam effective Michigan obsession. You hate "60 minutes of unnecessary roughness". You hate the invasion of the Juggalos. You hate couch burning and "first down bitch".

You want to beat Sparty, bad. Of course you do. It burns you up how Little Brother has been tearing things up in our down years.

This isn't just a game, and you know it. You know it because you're a Michigan fan. You'd trade a loss against any team on the schedule but one for a win against Sparty. They are the instate rival, they've earned that. But we will make them pay dearly for it.

I was in Disneyland last March and some 70 year old sparty fan was actually talking shit to me about us ( I was wearing my M gear I course) and about Harbaugh. Saying he isn't shit and how they are still going I own us. Go how I wish I could see that old mans face. FYI I live in CA and rarely run into MSU fans

There once was a man from East Lansing
Who burned couches when Sparty went dancing
With a voice filled with hate
Said "The Spartans are great!
But why does Michigan keep on advancing?"

I love the statement "stay classy and respectful" yet you start a Sparty Hate thread. Funny what football does to us isn't it?

I don't like the "it's just the next game on our schedule" routine we re getting from Harbaugh and the players....this game is absolutely enormous....they HAVE to know this and are trying to downplay it. Michigan must meet the rage and anger that State has brought to the rivalry

sparty antics are comical. I live in a green and white town unfortunately and last year all I heard from the sparty faithful was that michigan sucks of which there wasnt much defense against that. then when rumors started circulating about harbaugh it was no way no winning pro coach ever leaves the nfl for a college gig. then when he was hired it was huh well theres no talent on michigans roster it will be 3 years before they contend and he will probably leave for the pros before that. now i am hearing nothing, no comments no joking nothing. I take that as a really really good sign.

Just go out there on Saturday, and in a very workman like fashion, crush them. No yapping, no gloating, no emotion at all. Just leave the first string in until it's about 49-0, and talk about next week's opponent at the press conference.

I say run it up to 49-0, then do an onside kick to get another possession, then go into a 2 minute offense to score again.

Then at the post-game presser, say "Well, they really put a stake in us last year, so we felt we needed to come back from the dead and suck all the blood out of them...and I think we did that today"

Notre Dame was #2 for me mainly because I lived right next to South Bend so I was constantly hearing their idiot fans. Now that we no longer play ND, MSU has moved up to #2 for me. But I wouldn't say ND was above MSU for me because I'm pompous.

I hate Sparty because (a) Dantonio is a classless jerk who finds any excuse to stick it to Michigan and have his feelings hurt, (b) they intentionally try to injure our players (be ready for this on Saturday. I'd give 3/2 odds Sparty does some nasty things out there), (c) they exist, which gives Ohio State an edge beacuse Ohio State doesn't have a little brother in Ohio rubbing up against it each year who's fixated on beating it and battles it for in-state recruits.

I want this win equally as much as the Ohio State win this year.

Michigan doesn't like to acknowledge little bro as a rival, one of the fun ways we needle them. But right now, its a feud, and I'd argue the best in sports right now. I think no two fanbases hate each other more right now.

Heres one of my all time favorite sports articles that elaborates:

I thought they were rival but not like ND or MSU. MD is who I really hate.  He is the embodiment of everything little brother and he has used that to infect that entire fanbase. There have always been State fans who loathe UM but now the vitriol they spew is unbearable.

Until a couple years agoI didn't hate Sparty.  I hate all opponents on game day and generally dislike ND.  OSU is a huge rivalry but the hatred was limited to losing to them.  I genuinely hate Sparty now, or at least his fans.

Grad School gala a few years ago:  Michigan is playing Syracuse in a monster BBall game.  Everyone is having a great time drinking and dancing and celebrating one final time before exams, except the Michigan fans huddled around the TV hoping to get to the championship game...and the Sparty fans watching the game to cheer against us.  Not the team, the fans in the room.  That was my moment of clarity.  Sparty fans are not happy unless we are not.

Fuck em'

Sparty sucks.  His fans suck.  His school sucks.  Lose sore, win sore, inferiority complex havin', barbarians.  I used to feel a little embarassed by my smug dismissiveness.  I miss it now, I just have hatred in my heart.  Is it a coincidence that when choosing a mascot MSU chose arguably the most slave dependent society in world history rather than...I dunno, Trojans?  No.  It isn't.  Sparty is the worst.

I hate having to live among them and listening to them whine and gloat at the same time.  I hate their tacky giant S's and Horsehair Helmet Stickers on their trucks right above their tail-hitch nuts.  I hate packaging majors and the Turf-and-Grass department.  I hate that every one of them claims he or she got into both schools.  I hate Izzo.  I hate Mike D.

I can't wait for Saturday and the next five + years.  Some healthy beatings will put them in their place and hopefully return me to smug dismissiveness, where I should be.

My packaging major dis appeared to be the most vicious part of my work.  I think they really appreciate my writing, so I guess my English major WAS good for something.

Other highlights:

  • re Mike D - "So tell me who are you dissin'? Maybe I'm missin'"
  • re Slave Dependent - No, it's not a coincidence; it's because "State" and "Spartan" both start with the letter "S". That's right, "S", as in, "Suck my balls, walvie, you're going to get your shit pushed in."
  • re my crappy username - "How the hell does one pronounce "blueeee"?"
  • "Too many words to declare his butt hurt."

FWIW, I've kept my hatred and MSU commentary confined to the board.  Can't go public until we win, and then, really, it's better to just bask in the victory quietly...and smugly

As others have said six of the last seven don't make a rivalry. Rivalries are built over long periods of time between comparable programs. MSU despite their winning record against Michigan in the 50s and 60s is not a comparable program.

However, after his sixty minutes of unnecessary violence and rewarding his players for openly dirty play, I find that I have a deep dislike for Dantonio. He clearly has developed the MSU program so that it regularly wins a much higher percentage of its games than in the seasons before him, but I can't consider him to be a "good coach" or a good man.

I don't know of we'll win Saturday. I'm confident that win or lose Michigan will demonstrate that the period of MSU's presumption of superiority has ended.

I happened to watch Dantonio's presser from yesterday. Similarly to Harbaugh, he downplayed the importance of Saturday's game compared to the other games MSU has and will play. It wasn't "just the next game" but it wasn't an important win either. He also did not play the disrespect card. Very different that previous years. I very much hope that Harbaugh teaches that jerk a tough tough lesson about coaching football.

Go Blue! Beat those guys and leave no doubt.
