Some Interesting Balas Content from Huge Interview
Can't sleep. So listening to these Huge podcasts; here are some things from Balas. Some interesting tidbits in here and often in radio guys will be a little looser in lips than when written as its more of a stream of conscience. Here are some things I pulled out - again it is not gospel but some could be his interpretation of what he has heard.
- Heard on Saturday morning that Jim was making his own plans for the announcement.
- Even a month ago, this became a recruiting mission for Hackett.
- Repeated Harbaugh had agreed to the job for he believes $5M last time around.
- Last time around everything worked against UM in terms of how other chips fell; this time around the opposite.
- In part the love by the Michigan community played a part in this decision.
- Every Michigan captain that we talked to has reached out to Harbaugh - threw out Brady, A.C., Jansen. It overwhelmed him - not just him but his family.
- Expects parents to move from Wisconsin to Michigan.
- Anybody who says it is going to be a 2-3 year gig doesnt know JH; doesnt know his committment
- He wants to win championships and be mentioned up there with the Nick Sabans.
- Marching band members called back for Big Tuesday
- Michigan has felt very good about this for some time .... but JH is unpredictable
- At all times he is thinking about his current team
- It was a couple of Mondays ago he had a couple of hours to really sit down with Michigan and he began thinking seriously that this is what I am going to do (my comment - this was my conclusion as well when the gears really went into overdrive as Les Miles said "not going to Michigan off the record" and there were a flurry of Michigan insiders within hours all going very positive on twitter and on their respective boards, believe this was the Tuesday after SF had been eliminated from playoffs)
- If Brady Hoke had gone 7-5 he might still be the coach (egad)
Rest of interview was a short snippet about 2015 team and basically says he needs to find a QB, etc etc. And that Jim is tireless in a Bill Frieder sort of way in recruiting.
Also in the closing seconds of Bacon's interview tonight he said something to the effect of "I might have to put a pen to paper" in what seemed an obvious nod for how the Harbaugh "process" came to be. Will be an interesting read as well.

for sure, especially the captains reach ing out thing. Can't wait to hear what Brian can start poSting soon, likely he's got some of the same types of sources.

I don't know what part is OP interpretation, but still interesting. I would (as we all would!) love to see how this all went down behind the scenes. Crazy how Hackett kept stuff so quiet

Sorry it was the middle of the night. I didnt mean my interpretation - I tried to quote him verbatim. I meant some line items could be inferred as Balas' interpretation. i.e. there is a lot of debate among many on if Harbaugh was "hired" or not in 2011.

I would like to see Brian and John U put it together. Then release it after just before the 2016 season when the team expectations are sky high
December 28th, 2014 at 11:57 AM ^
I'd like it to wait until after we win a Big Ten title.
December 28th, 2014 at 10:34 AM ^
As always. I like the Saban comparison. I would not be surprised to see JH want to build a real legacy here.

It is 4am and people are still actively reading and posting. This is fantastic. Great post by the way!
December 28th, 2014 at 4:53 AM ^
woke up and saw the proliferation of threads and the new banner and wondered WTF happened??! Last I knew I got delivered back home sometime around 11 and soon thereafter dozed off/passed out on the couch after a several-hour birthday tour of the brewpubs of Grand Rapids.
Anyhow, after answering the call of nature, I looked in on MGoBlog about 20 minutes ago and saw the explosion of new threads. Now i'm debating popping open that newly-filled growler of IPA I brought home from Perrin's...

Hideout, by chance?
December 28th, 2014 at 10:05 AM ^
as we started at Brewery Vivant, then ate sushi at Maru right next door to Brewery Vivant. Next stop The Mitten, final stop (where they had a surprise party for me) was Perrin's. Spent about 4 hours there and filled my new U of M growler there with IPA before leaving.
I did make it to The Hideout back in July. They've got some interesting selections there involving hemp.

I'm sure you have some cobwebs to clear.

In S. Korea its 8:30pm. and yes, I'm still actively reading. but probably less tired than most others, lol
December 28th, 2014 at 4:24 AM ^
thanks for the review. pretty interesting stuff there.
December 28th, 2014 at 4:29 AM ^
Well done alum96. It's only 1:30am on the West Coast, and a perfect time to get gems like this.
December 28th, 2014 at 4:40 AM ^
So much content. Holy awesomess.
December 28th, 2014 at 4:51 AM ^
Awesome. Thanks.
December 28th, 2014 at 4:54 AM ^
Couldn't sleep myself! Too much going on. I'll check into the band part, that right there is very interesting and a tell tale sign something big is happening.

SIAP, but Harbaugh's official twitter account now reads "head football coach @umichfootball , Ann Arbor, Michigan"
December 28th, 2014 at 5:23 AM ^
unfortunately, that's not his real account
December 28th, 2014 at 7:00 AM ^
You created an account here almost a year ago, waited all this time, and . . . your first ever post is evidence of getting suckered by a fake Twitter account.

Anybody know what source that Schefter is refering to saying this is not done and there is no deal, or is he just marching to the company beat. These reporters are quick to tell us good stuff and then there are others ready to take it all away. I can't wait for this to be done with. Go Blue!
December 28th, 2014 at 7:35 AM ^
Yea probably David Dunn. NFL season has to be over first. Schefter doesn't know shit about shit and won't take anyone's word for it because Harbaugh is headed to A2 and not Oakland.
December 28th, 2014 at 7:54 AM ^
Makes sense. I would of thought since he is alumni he wouldn't be such a downer. I'm also rather disappointed by some of the comments left on his Twitter by Michigan fans. Not a good look but it's their right to do so by the 1st Amendment.
December 28th, 2014 at 10:43 AM ^
Is usually really locked in. He is the reason I was not getting excited. I bet he had some info that was making a NFL stay possible for JH.
December 28th, 2014 at 8:37 AM ^
to see the "Les Miles to Michigan" 'report' by Kirk Herbstreit, so they are waiting until he actually is in Ann Arbor this time?
December 28th, 2014 at 7:43 AM ^
As of last night, the MMB as a whole had not received any asking them to perform. Plz take w/ grain of salt.
December 28th, 2014 at 9:53 AM ^
I and most of this board will take Brian's word over yours.
December 28th, 2014 at 9:55 AM ^
Well, he might actually be in the MMB himself, so let's wait before being condescending.

And I'll take the word of my many close friends who are currently in the band over Brian's word.
That said, when exactly did Brian say that the MMB as a whole had been asked to perform?
Not saying they won't be asked to perform. Just that your blind following is misguided at best. As of late last night (1:30am), nothing had been received by the whole band.

There should be a book about this really, in my opinion, and one thing that would make it pretty cool to read is not only all the competing angles up to even just a few days ago, but also the compressed timeline (about 4 weeks). I would definitely give it read if Bacon decided to write about it.
December 28th, 2014 at 10:22 AM ^
That would help get the competing angles.
December 28th, 2014 at 7:49 AM ^
Regardless of anything going on with any other sources indicating he's coming he's not coming and so forth. It will all be over in a mere 24 to 48 hours. Let's buckle up. I apologize for the horrible grammar I'm doing speak to text.

Independent info or all from the same source? Don't know ... but one would think that major newspaper editors would make their reporters check sources ...

Anyone know how to listen to this in the iphone?

The hire...then the excitement of building the staff....then the excitement of giving a shit about recruiting...then the excitement of spring ball...then the excitement summer improvement.
I haven't been this excited for one offseason for YEARS! Probably since the summer going into Hart/Henne's senior year.

When alum96 posts something, I read it.
Good job.
