they were 12-6 in the B1G this year. I'd never want to live in West Lafayette, but the basketball program isn't really bad, like Rutgers-level bad. They make the tournament occassionally and get some good players. Basil Smotherman couldn't even crack the starting lineup. BASIL SMOTHERMAN!!!

Those guys won't be on the court for two more years.  Center is easily be position of greatest need for this upcoming season.  If they fill the open spot this year, do they still have a spot for PG next year? If so, you absolutely take a 5* center for this year.  Even if you don't have a spot, I think you take him and ride with a senior Wlaton and MAAR at point in 2016 if you have to.

He also doesn't want to play center, he wants to play a NBA-style power 4 if he can, which might even be part of why he decommitted. Purdue is an enormous team that can use him as a 4. That lineup will be gigantic. If they start, as you'd think, Davis-Stephens-Edwards-Swanigan-Hammons, that's 6'5", 6'6", 6'7", 6'8" 275 lbs, 7'0", with 7'2" Haas coming off the bench.

1. You just asked if M should recruit a 5 star All American Big? The answer should always be yes. I'd like to see what M looks like under JB with a real big man for a full season. McGary was a weird situation with injuries and his minutes to start that year.

2. I think he may still end up at MSU just like McDowell. If he says he only wants to go to MSU he will end up there.

When someone becomes intolerant to a medical therapy, it is quite often that the patient will be "re-challenged" at a later date to see if the patient can tolerate the therapy, and thus, benefit from its potential beneficial outcomes. Mr. Swanigan, the only remedy to your malady lies in AA. Come get some medicine baby!!!

While not wanting to go to State because you want to go to Michigan is a scenario we can all understand, there are unfortunately literally dozens of perfectly good reasons this kid wouldn't want to go to State. Terrible player development, mediocre accademics, fans with little brother syndrome (LBS), lousy campus, etc etc etc. The reasons this kid didn't want to go to State could be endless. It would be a huge leal to think the reason he decommitted was he wanted to come to Michigan.

I think that recruiting Swanigan would be a waste of time. He didn't decommit from MSU because he just discovered that he doesn't want to go there, he decommitted because he has a situation available to him that is more to his liking. What is more appealing to him now? Purdue is no different than when he committed to MSU. But California is not. He is going to California. Sure, Beilein could put out a feeler to him, but Swanigan's going to California.
