Shane Morris: "not going to let (Rudock) take my job"

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Interesting quote from him at the A4 camp today.

Shane Morris says he sees U-M starting QB job as his to lose. Says he knows Jake Rudock came to take his job, "but I'm not going to let him"

Yeah I still have a hard time seeing Rudock not start though.

Shane was such a disaster last year. His ceiling may be higher, but the fundamentals just seem awful.

Rudock has been out there a lot longer.

Maybe Harbaugh can bring the best out of Shane, but it's not like Rudock won't benefit either.

That's how it should be.  All the quarterbacks are going to fight each other for that coveted starting spot, and the competition will make them all better.

I wouldn't mind if Rudock starts because he is really solid, but I would rather have two years of Shane rather than 1 year of Rudock. Hopefully Shane can grab a hold of the no.1 spot and hold onto it!

Hopefully this year, and the years going forward, Harbaugh is able to identify the QB who gives Michigan the best chance to win games.

I can understand the desire for continuity but it shouldn't be at the expense of having the best product on the field.  Something I believe we spent the better part of the last ten years learning.

Really solid?

IDK about all that, I'd like to think with better talent around Ruddock would be a better QB then he was at Iowa.   He doesn't turn the ball over a bunch, but he's not going to light it up and win you any games with his arm.  He's a game manager at best.  I think Morris has the ability to win some games with his arm.

entitlement is a feeling he is holding onto. Especially with the atmosphere Harbaugh is fostering. I am optimistic coaching is what he needs to make him the QB we are all hoping for. I'm sure he will work for it.

I still think it's Rudock's job to lose, in reality.

2016 is when we'll have more of a QB battle IMO.

It is. Shane has yet to lead a TD drive in college. Rudock has led several and done so in high pressure situations. I like Shane's attitude but he's going to have to improve significantly to even have a shot at Rudock.

In his first two games, Rudock led three touchdown drives against Northern Illinois (who started the season 12-0) and 4 touchdown drives against Missouri State. He threw for 256 yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions against NIU. He threw for 193 yards, no touchdowns and 1 interception against Missouri State. Iowa finished that season 8-5. Just one game better than our 7-6 season.

Great attitude, hope that means harder work on his part and hopefully that translates to better on-field results for him.  He has these 2 years to try and build his legacy, it is all up to him.  He will only be better due to the Harbaugh mantra of competition, competition, competition.

I would love for Morris to compete with Rudock enough that he can at least get some experience this year, and hopefully show he is a competant option going into his senior season.

They won't be on the field at the same time, and short of sabotaging each other and thus the team, any animosity that pushes both of them to be the best they can be is a good thing.  Time to set aside touchy feely things and man up.

If Rudock can't handle Morris speaking up for himself, then maybe Harbaugh bought a pig in a poke.  But I don't think that's the case.

Soooo are you saying he should say he is going to step aside and let Rudock have the job? Isn't it kind of in the competitive spirit to want the job? To not want to give it up? That doesn't mean there is a rift between the two at all. It means Morris wants to be the starting QB. As does Rudock. I'm sure Rudock has the same mentality. Quite frankly, (and judging by how Jim is as a person, he would agree) I don't think we really have room on the team for players who DONT have this mentality. You really want players on the team who aren't open about wanting to be starters and wanting to be the best?

No, I read it. And like I said, I'm sure Harbaugh loves it. The confidence, the strive, the determination. Do you think Harbaugh is the type of person to keep something to himself? Do you think he wants that from his players? I'm sure Harbaugh LOVES the fact that Morris said this. It shows a lot about how badly Morris wants to not only compete, but WIN the QB job. He's not backing down to the challenge Rudock presents, and that is fantastic. It will only make both QB's better. Why should he keep it to himself? He didn't say anything bad about Rudock. All he said was he isn't going to let Rudock take the job that Morris WON in spring practice. I wouldn't expect any QB to let someone come in and take their job.

Good for him! Hopefully he's training and working out everyday with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Good luck to him. Competition. Gotta love it!

Those who stay ....

Will get Harbaughed or go home.

Good to here some noise from Shane hope he takes on the challenge.

I believe he will be better because everyone will be better.

There is still a lot of good undeveloped talent on this roster .

I don't care who starts day 1 because I know coach will put out the best man. But if Shane does win the job how shitty would Jake feel? I guess he wasn't going to start 100% at Iowa, but he could have gone someone to start.
