Sept. 2nd - 6th college football games

I was looking at the full Labor Day weekend schedule of college football games and I have to admit, it looks much more appetizing than previous years.  A big reason for this is because half of the B1G is doing the mid-90's thing by opening their seasons with a conference opponent.

Thursday, Sept. 2nd -

Ohio State @ Minnesota (8:00 p.m.)

Friday, Sept. 3rd -

North Carolina @ Virginia Tech (6:00 p.m.)

Michigan State @ Northwestern (9:00 p.m.)

Saturday, Sept. 4th -

Penn State @ Wisconsin (Noon)

Indiana @ Iowa (3:30)

West Virginia @ Maryland (3:30)

Georgia @ Clemson (7:30)

Sunday, Sept. 5th -

Notre Dame @ Florida State (7:30)

I guess I should add that Alabama plays at Miami-Florida on Saturday, the 4th, if you're into that.  Me personally, I've reached the point that watching the Tide, even on opening weekend, is pretty disheartening given that their talent is so head and shoulders above everybody else that you already know they're going all the way.  Unless they're doing something for the greater good, like beating the tar our of Ohio State, I've found very little reason to watch them.

Unfortunately, Penn State's game against Wisconsin is the same time as our game with Western.  So I'll be too busy saying a hundred prayers to GOD that we look nothing like last year.  But Indiana/Iowa follows and that game sounds like it will be fun.  And Clemson/Georgia sounds like an amazing night game for the first full Saturday of college football.

Week 2 will have OSU hosting #11 Oregon at noon and we're playing Washington under the lights.  College gameday will be in Annapolis as Navy hosts Air Force.  It's 9/11.

Also, a couple of good late games with BYU hosting Utah and USC hosting Stanford.  If UM wins, I'll be reveling and watching until 2AM.  If we lose, I'll skip the TV and just keep drinking.

Does it though? lol  Honestly, I'm racking my brain trying to think of a non-Michigan (and usually Michigan) involved Iowa game that was "fun" to watch. I guess it depends on your particular brand of tea. But, to me, Iowa football is a great 3.5 hour nap on Saturday.

Maybe this?

Fair point.  But it IS a conference game.  Probably much better than if Iowa were playing somebody like Norfolk State.  And I witnessed a lot of people here last year having orgasms over Tom Allen, even after we thought he was pretty much an ass for two seasons.

That game sounds like it has more potential, so to speak.

I like watching good sound fundamental football, so watching Iowa is always fun. Every time I watch them I think "Michigan has a starter at almost every position better than these guys, if we just ran the same systems, we'd win a LOT of games".

Why that doesn't seem to ever happen, I have several dozen competing theories about.

Sucks that PSU and Wisconsin game is at noon. I was hoping it would be 330 but at least Clemson/Georgia is late so I'll catch that full game after going to Michigan.

Don't sleep on week 0. Nebraska @ Illinois at 1pm next Saturday.

I feel the same as you about the Alabama Miami game, and Miami is a top 10 (to SP+ at least) team! It's a road game against a top 10 team with a brand new starting QB and I am incredibly confident Bama will win.

I just gave this rundown to my 9 and 7-year-old boys last night. We agreed that we will convince Mom we're watching football from 12pm-11:30pm on Saturday the 4th but promise to be outside all day on Sunday and do one fun thing she likes to do.

Georgia-Clemson should be a good game, at least on paper. But UGA is getting hit pretty bad by the injury bug. Their best WR, George Pickens, is still recovering from an ACL tear, they just lost one of their starting TEs and DBs for a few weeks and the local radio down here in Atlanta feels fairly certain they won't be back by the time of the Clemson game, and then plenty of their other receivers are limited in practice or are just flat out not there for "personal reasons."

Not that UGA doesn't have talent elsewhere, but they're down quite a handful of bodies. And then even though Clemson doesn't have Trevor Lawrence anymore, their incoming starter got his feet wet plenty last year, especially in the game against ND. So it won't be his first rodeo.

I'm hoping its a close, fun-to-watch game, mostly because the wife is a die-hard UGA fan, but honestly it would not surprise me to see them lose by a couple TDs.

Alabama-Miami will be a snoozer. That game is over by halftime. But PSU-Wisconsin could be a fun one to watch. Hoping Michigan is up by enough in the second half where I can switch over to that game for a while.

Georgia has no worse than a puncher's chance. They've still got a good shot, if for no other reason than they've got a ton of talent on that team. But they'll be asking a lot of guys who have proven nothing at the college level to step up and make plays against the second or third best team in America.

Georgia could win this game if Smart presses all the right buttons, or if someone emerges in the passing game and just takes over. But its more likely that Clemson wins by double digits.

I'm pretty pumped, already highlighted games to follow in week 1 from gameviewingguide.com (which is awesome btw). Besides the games mentioned, I also marked

Louisiana, who is ranked, vs Texas for the schadenfreude potential

N. Illinois vs Ga Tech, for the preview of our week 3 opponent

LSU UCLA for the rare PAC-SEC game
