Semi OT: Montana to Washington
So Nick Montana has verbally committed to Washington. I guess this semi-affects us positively because it means that he is not coming to Ohio State or Notre Dame. Since Washington missed out on Heaps, who went to BYU, they now have their QB of the future after Locker leaves.
Probably one of the biggest pick ups for Sarkisian and Washington in a long while.
Hopefully, we'll see Montana in a couple of years when we're playing Washington in the Rose Bowl.
As long as he stays as far away from the vest as possible, I got no problem with this kid.
On the flip side, who becomes new primary target for free Escalades in Columbus for the next five years?
I can't believe it. Washington?
Maybe he likes the asian ladies? Or Pockey? Lots of both in Seattle.
You show me one man who doesn't love the asian ladies and I'll show you a liar...
What is a pockey?
Japanese candy. Like crack only made of biscuit sticks and chocolate.
Yeh, I was thinking that. They also kinda waited on Gardner because Montana was their #1 guy. So this makes me happy, who is next on their list?
Considering this is Sarkisian and Washington's first year together, I'd say it's their biggest pickup ever.
But as for UW, they got Locker back in 2006 or 2007 and they got Kavario Middleton in 2008. I think Locker was in the top three QBs for his class.
vest oil!
I think I heard something about Gardner burning an OSU jersey or something, so I doubt he'll head off to OSU now.
scholarship offer letter and posted on the web.
He's a winner in my book just for that public display of dissing tuos.
It wasn't an offer letter, it was a camp invite. IIRC
But still pretty awesome.
As long as he didn't go to the Buckeyes. I loved Montana as a kid, the last place I wanted to see his kid go him go was OSU. Wash is a little bizarre.
Washington is extremely surprising.
On the OSU / Gardner thing: will this make Gardner's verbal a little softer now? Wasn't he sort of an OSU fan growing up? Maybe I'm not remembering right but I thought OSU was going to be a big obstacle but they hadn't offered.
jokenjin beat me to the punch, but all in all it’s great to see OSU lose out on their #1 QB target from what I’ve read over the past few months and have some egg on their face. I tend to think their offering of the QB from Moeller turned Montana off a bit despite noting he had no problem with the offer (article linked below), It’s been mentioned Tressel was going to wait on Montana's decision before offering other QB’s, but that appears to have just been lip service. I know over the past few months there’s been quite a few questions about RR’s recruiting tactics, but let’s just tip our hats as we’ve landed our #1 QB target.

I'm pretty sure they only did that after they got wind that Montana wasn't coming to OSU. Joe Montana and Tressel are close b/c of their mutual ties to Eddie DeBartolo. The Montanas probably gave them a heads up.
RE: Gardner, I don't think we have to worry too much about him going to OSU. He did, as mentioned above, burn a bunch of OSU stuff on video after committing to U of M.
Not many top QB prospects left; looks like ND and OSU are battling for Andrew Hendrix. Both teams need a QB for their class, as neither took a QB last year. I guess OSU will lockup Braxton Miller soon, but he's a 2011 prospect.

I have nothing against the kid, but this would have been great cannon fodder had he decided to matriculate at Notre Dame. I would imagine that we would have roughed him up like we did Jimmy C. I would love to see him do well at UW, and I would imagine that Fat Charlie is not going to take this too well.
We kicked his ass.
Then he kicked our ass.
I'm not sure "roughing him up" is a good descriptor for our encounters with Clausen.
I would hardly say Jimmy's performance against us last year as "kicking our ass." We lost the game. He had like 2 big plays. He didn't throw for 300 yards or anything.
EDIT: I just looked up the stats. He was 10/21 for 147 yards (7.0 ypa) with 2 TD's and 2 INT's. What, 80 of those yards came on one play that we royally fucked up. Steven Threets stat line from that game makes him look All Big Ten compared to Jimmy's.
Scoreboard.
He would never be able to live up to the mythic image of his dad; the pressure on him would be enormous.
daddy wasn't all that enthralled with big boy. Nonetheless,I'm happy for UDub & Nick...sound like a good choice by Nick.
I ;ike it when someone step on a cloverleaf...from time to time. Their fanbase must be feeling like a redheaded stepchild today.
We'd be back to hearing him win 3 or 4 heismans.
joke in there somewhere, Don.
That's a great point - why try to live up to the hype that your dad put up at ND when you can build your own legacy at Washington? I would love to be "the quarterback who led Washington back to prominence" (or the qb who led Random University to prominence). Seriously, who does he have to beat out for that honor? Brunell? Tuiasosopo? Locker?
Wow! Great Pick Montana. The NCAA should be coming down on Sarkisian and UW in the near future. I wouldnt plan on bowling. But hey good pick.
Pretty good decision for him. Sark has groomed Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart and Mark Sanchez so he definitely has credibility as a QB coach. I'm going to enjoy not seeing him in scarlet.
That probably had as much to do with it as anything, really.
"Sure... go play for Tressel. How many QB's has he sent to the pro's now? Or, you know, you could play for me and be a 1st round pick making millions in three or four years at most."
To be fair, Krenzel has spent a few years in the league as a backup and Troy Smith was a 2nd round pick (I think). They haven't done anything once they got there, but they're there nonetheless.
in the 5th or 6th round.
Sorry, man, been resisting the urge to do that for a few weeks now... Couldn't hold out any longer.
Somebody mentioned that they thought it was similar, all lowercase, underscores, the words white then an animal, it was just too much, I hope to change it soon.
Thanks for holding off as long as you could - I'm touched.
That's what she said
It was the 5th round.
Norm Chow too. Who was really responsible for the QB development during those years?
because of Loeffler or DeBoard? I'd say both are responsible but generally more accolades should go to position coaches.
I most wanted to see in this recruiting class was Nick Montana to not-Ohio State.
