Satellite Camps Are Back

“Play Free Bird!”

Michigan will kick things off in its own backyard by partnering with Eastern Michigan on June 1.

U-M will then head to Big Rapids for a satellite camp at Ferris State on June 3 and Detroit for a satellite camp at Wayne State on June 7.

Of course, Michigan is set to head out of region as well. On June 1, the same date as the Eastern Michigan camp, Michigan will be represented in the Atlanta-area at the Mercer Raise The Bar mega camp — Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Northwestern are some other P5 programs slated to be in attendance.

Michigan will also stick around in Georgia and participate in the Champions Elite Camp at La Grange College on June 3-4.

Sticking with the Southeast, Michigan will partner with Florida International for its June 7 camp in Miami.

Michigan is set to participate in the Redlands Camp Series just outside of Los Angeles on June 16.

Michigan will then head to Tacoma, Washington for a satellite camp with Pacific Lutheran on June 27.

They finish up in Los Angelus and then back to Ann Arbor.

Love it...

This is something Harbaugh started and should never, ever back off of...Push harder and force others to deal. Its good for CFB period but especially the young men who play the game.

Adding to @Mike Damone's comment, I think there is also a limit on the number of camps per year.

Harbaugh's original approach turned them into a barnstorming recruiting tour. If I recall, Michigan was hosting something almost every weekend. For two summers, Michigan was the talk of college football in the heart of SEC country.

The host and number limits effectively killed that approach. Requiring local hosts forced smaller schools to face the wrath of the local SEC powerhouse if they teamed up with Michigan. And the absolute limits stopped Michigan from sucking up news coverage all summer long.

I'm sure Harbaugh has been competing with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind the entire time, but with the staff changes, landing Clinkscale and now satellite camps it feels like momentum.  Is Harbaugh back?  Is he off whatever meds were toning him down?  Baby steps.

I'm trying to recall back to 2019, did Michigan participate in any of these new format "local host" camps after the SEC got their panties in a bunch about the satellites?

Glad to see UM back out there, these events are win-win-win for everyone involved. I'm speculating this is another early benefit of enhancing and expanding the recruiting and communications departments to be able to coordinate things like these. Love to see it, kudos!

Too bad Linguist got a HC job so soon, otherwise I feel they would have definitely been down in Texas for a few camps.  I love the Clinkscale hire, but Linguist would have opened up Texas for Michigan recruiting.
