Sam Webb on the "Silent" Commit
On the Recruiting Roundup, Sam made clear that the Silent Commit is NOT Sheldon Day. Sam also said yesterday that the silent is NOT a LB. This looks like Godin more and more. Considering that the early reports has this commitment as "not surprising," I can't figure out another option. No DB was on the verge of committing.

I haven't heard his name mentioned. Was he at the spring game or been on campus lately?
April 19th, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
He was supposedly at Penn State last Saturday. His final four is MICH, MSU, Wiscy and PSU.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:04 AM ^
Terry Richardson perhaps? Nobody really thought RJS was on the verge of committing, and Richardson might feel the same way about ending his recruitment.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:08 AM ^
Eh, some people figured RJS was pretty close to a decision. He was expected to announce awhile ago and then it kind of got put on hold. There's been no such chatter about Richardson.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
Eh, so it's not Sheldon Day, it's not a linebacker. It has to be someone. Godin, Richardson, it might be any of them.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
It's clearly Ronald Johnson.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:20 AM ^
still hurts.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
What are you talking about? All signs point to Nick Perry.
I heard it was actually Dee Hart.
My gut feeling: Justin King. Could also be Myron Rolle. He's serious about academics and wants to go to medical school.
April 19th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
Chris Johnson. He's concerned about the lockout hurting his career long term, so he's going to leave the Lions, walk on at M and go Pre-Med.
April 19th, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
Do you mean Calvin Johnson leaving the Lions? Chris plays for the Titans. I'll take both, but just wanted to check.
I thought we concluded that his ego simply wouldn't have fit on campus in Ann Arbor?
April 19th, 2011 at 11:04 AM ^
Yeah, Godin sounds like the guy. Hopefully Sheldon Day also commits then.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:07 AM ^
I think it could be Godin OR Pharaoh Brown. But probably Godin
April 19th, 2011 at 11:10 AM ^
Yes, I have seen a couple of people hint at Pharoah Brown. Would fit the description.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:12 AM ^
at the Spring game either, right? Would be nice if Pharaoh committed during Passover.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:12 AM ^
He was not on campus for the spring game
April 19th, 2011 at 11:53 AM ^
Solid Passover joke. +1 if I could.
April 19th, 2011 at 12:46 PM ^
That was solid.
April 19th, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
ive seen a good jewish joke on here! the masses of jewish students can rejoice that they are being included finally!
It's about time - RR really did a bad job of making the Jews feel welcome.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
Sam Webb said it was an in-state guy.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:17 AM ^
Well...then it must be Godin
April 19th, 2011 at 11:46 AM ^
I just listened to today's recruiting round-up and didn't hear that. I don't rule out the possibility that I missed it.
April 19th, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
He mentioned it yesterday.
The silent is an in-state kid. I know this to be 100% fact. Like I've stated already, all signs point to Godin...
April 19th, 2011 at 11:08 AM ^
I know the silent is on D, is it an in-stater? If in-stater, I would think it's Godin. If not, maybe Morgan out of NYC. I thought I read that Godin went to PSU's spring game this past weekend.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:10 AM ^
Sounds like he just moved Michigan on par with Rutgers. While I think we will eventually have the edge here, I'm not sure if he is close to deciding. In fact, his recruiting is probably just picking up now.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
I just saw Magnus say it was an in-stater, so my guess is Godin. He seemed to always want to come here and I can see after going to PSU's spring game, he decided for us.
As for Morgan, it seems he wants to stay in the northeast and Mich is the boundary in my view. If it is down to Rutgers and us, that should be an easy choice. Michigan is huge in NY and NYC. Probably right behind NDand on par with PSU in popularity. Is PSU on the radar of this kid? I havent heard anything about PSU.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:33 AM ^
He visited Penn State in October for the Michigan game. Of course, the first thing he mentioned in the post game interview was how much he loved watching Denard Robinson play....*wink*
April 19th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
Thanks. I didn't remember that about him. How many secondary guys will we take. Can't be more than 2 or 3. Morgan, Reeves, and T Rich are possiblities.
April 19th, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
2 is probably the maximum. There's bodies there now, they just need to be developed.
What about Jarrod Wilson? He is a good sized (6'2, 190) FS prospect that we haven't had for years. I rememer hearing more about him a while ago rather than lately. Anyone know if we are in good position for him?
Edit: Just to be clear, I am not talking about the silent commit, just responding to the comment about DBs that mentions Richardson, Morgan and Reeves as the ones we are probably in best shape with.
I missed Wilson. Has he visited yet? I was thinking more along the lines of guys we were in their top group. I would love that Bush kid from Florida.
Bush would be my #1 guy as well. He's got the size for developing into a great player. Not to say that he's not already. The kids got speed too..
Well, we know that the coaches want 6 offensive linemen, 3 linebackers, 2 tight ends, and 1 quarterback. The numbers at other positions are a little murkier, but that takes care of 12 out of the 16 spots.
That leaves 4 spots for WR, RB, FB, DT, DE, CB, and S.
The numbers just don't add up. I don't think we see many transfers. My guess is less than 5.
Agreed, from what I gather all signs point to the vast majority of the kids pretty much buying into what coach Hoke and his staff are bringing to Michigan. I also agree that there will be some sort of attrition, but nowhere near the levels accumlated under RR. I think less then 5 is a reasonable guess.
April 21st, 2011 at 10:17 AM ^
...with that said, he is visiting Miami and Oregon in the near future. I'm assuming if he is willing to go visit Oregon, then Michigan is still pretty close to home. Geographically speaking.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:09 AM ^
Well if you assume that the silent commit was at the spring game then we're kinda running out of names. Terry Richardson is really the only one with an offer that fits the criteria.
Since we're just in full speculation mode, I want to throw out another name. Vontrell Williams. He was supposed to be at the game and did not have an offer but could be a candidate to commit on the spot if we got one. He's really the only other non-LB, non-Sheldon Day defensive prospect I can think of who was there.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:11 AM ^
One of the things that's been mentioned has been that the silent commit was expected to commit, just not at this time. I don't think anyone expects Terry Richardson to commit, and I'm taking 'not at this time' to mean 'not at the Spring Game'....I don't consider Spring Game commitments to be surprising timing
The silent commit wasn't at the Spring game, at least according to Beaver.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:14 AM ^
Hello : sssshhhhhhhhhhhh
April 19th, 2011 at 11:17 AM ^
I'd have to put my money on Godin based on current description.
April 19th, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
This may be an uneducated question, but...when will this commit become "un-silent"?
April 19th, 2011 at 11:19 AM ^
TVH said about 2-3 weeks
April 19th, 2011 at 11:20 AM ^
3 weeks
April 19th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
Don't people ask questions to become educated? Therefore, aren't all questions uneducated?
April 19th, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
Or rhetorical.
Or to show off your education during a round of Jeopardy.
