Sam Webb crystal balls LB Jeremy Patton to Michigan

Patton is a 6'1 210 LB from Tenaha, TX. Currently it's assumed that this is a Michigan/Texas battle with Texas in the lead (though from the front page recruiting post, it seems Patton likes Michigan more but distance may play a factor).

Webb put in a crystal ball with a confidence of 6 and then subsequently flipped his crystal ball for Deuce Spurlock from Michigan to Mississippi St. with a confidence of 1. It always seemed like the staff was waiting on what Patton would do to give Spurlock the go ahead to commit. If Webb is correct, things seem to be looking very good for Michigan to land Patton.

Junior Highlights: link

Shows a good nose for the ball as a LB. a lot of his offensive film includes him taking handoffs and pitches and dusting the defense. His speed doesn’t look bananas but once he gets going in one direction he covers a lot of ground quickly.   Not sure what the  level of competition is like that he’s playing against but seems fast by comparison.

Dunno why he’s listed as a WR as that seems to be the least interesting part of his film, but appears to be one of those guys who likes to hit and likes to play football any way he can.

Teneha? That takes me back to some looong drives from MI to College Station.  I look forward to Seth's deep dive on asset forfeiture in the Hello post.

With offers from Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma and LSU (to go along with a handful of other mid-level P5 offers). So maybe we should just ignore the arbitrary ranking from a website that still thinks he’s a WR coming off of a year with no camps so they have limited evaluation of him...

This has been brought up countless times on the board. The recruiting sites miss on guys all the time. Even moreso coming off of a pandemic year that severely limited in-person evaluations. Some guys shoot up the rankings late, some guys go unnoticed the whole process, some are overrated from the start.

Its lazy to sit there and judge a recruit solely on his recruiting ranking. Again, even more in a year such as this. Rankings are a PIECE of the puzzle. Offers and film can be just as telling, and even more telling in a lot of ways. Do you want a top 150 kid with low P5 offers or do you want a kid in the 600s with all the heavy hitter offers?
