Sam Webb this A.M. - up to 13 more in the '16 class
Was just listening to the Recruiting Roundup on WTKA. Sam Webb said that he's starting to think that we'll take up to 13 more in this class, not 9 as he'd previously thought. As most MGoBloggers know, Sam usually doesn't just make this stuff up. He's very tight with the coaching staff so it's unlikely to be just speculation on his part.

As will the attrition.

Looks like the Black Friday sale at Walmart!

Wow, I hate people.
November 5th, 2015 at 11:20 AM ^
Ummm...you're people too...
November 5th, 2015 at 11:39 AM ^
He meant people in the "Rural Dictionary" sense as:
"People who line up overnight to shop the day after Thanksgiving sale at Walmart and then frequently trample other people bumrushing to get the new GTA fer they Grandbabies"

I was just trying to think of the most heinous thing people could give their grandchildren that you'd find at such a store.

and so dead on. Black Friday/Thursday highlights so many of the bad elements of our society.

His best guess list was pretty strong too. He added a certain running back to the list and a Tight End along with the Big guy from NJ to be part of this class.
November 5th, 2015 at 8:35 AM ^
That would make me happy but the most glaring need for next year is a couple immediate difference makers at LB and WR. I think we're a legit top 10 team next year and if we add the right pieces we could easily be top 5.
I'm gonna take a stab at it:
Kareem Walker; Issac Nauta; Rashan Gary; LeVert Hill; Nordin; Dylan Crawford; Pie Young; Chris Daniels; Carlo Kemp; Devin Bush; Terrence Davis; Jonathan Jones; and David Long or Lamar Jackson.

I can't fathom finishing our class that we'll, but here's hoping.
November 5th, 2015 at 8:51 AM ^
I'm just guessing at what Sam's list is. I would also be shocked if we finished that well.
November 5th, 2015 at 8:55 AM ^
Well we do supposedly lead for Gary and Walker. Seems like its us or Auburn for Gary and us or a Florida school for Walker.
Nauta of those 3 is the reach as I assume GA until people start moving him aggresively to UM.

While there is definitely sentiment in GA to fire Richt, I think they have an excellent chance to win their last four games. That would make them 9-3, and would they really fire him at 9-3? Sure Nebraska did that, but Pellini is kind of a dick

recruiting. Some recruits will make up their mind before it's settled. Others will wonder if the staff will be around in another year or two.

In the event that happens, or even something to close to that, that's gotta be the #1 ranked class right? As it stands now we're top 10.
November 5th, 2015 at 10:56 AM ^
I can appreciate what your saying here Holmes but it really doesn't matter in my opinion. Anything top 10 JH and crew can coach into a top 5 class with a shot at the National Championship. Anything top 5 and we are coached head and shoulders above the field. IT"S HAPPENING!!

a possibility for LB & WR needs, at least for next year? The staff needs to recruit for the long haul but I'm guessing Harbaugh will plug & play 5th year transfers into any holes on the roster.
November 5th, 2015 at 9:02 AM ^
Yes but certainly you just expect a "servicable guy" as a transfer. I dont think the Wrs need another servicable guy - we have 2 and you have to assume one of the litany of young guys who will be a year older will be a good 3rd and 4th.
LB is another story - we could use a Blake Countess to Josh Furman level player there immediately for 2016.

I could see some departures at WR. But not the top 2. Some dudes barely play in the class behind Chesson and Darboh.

Canteen is a cornerback. Zordich likes him there.

You also just expect a "serviceable" guy because there isn't a significant supply of really good grad transfer LBs and WRs. You see good QB's on the transfer market (OKorn, Greyson Lambert at UGA, Oklahomas's guy, etc.) because only one can play at a time and there is little rotating of that position. If you lose the starting gig to an underclassman or you don't fit a new coaches system preferences, there is a good chance you'll be a backup for a long time and it makes sense to transfer. If you're a good LB or WR chances are you will get snaps even with guys ahead of you due to the fact that three or more play at a time, the positions tend to rotate depth, and, as frequent contact bearing positions, the injury rate is higher than for QB's. All in all, I wouldnt expect transfers at these positions that are markedly better than our current guys, unless we get lucky.

I'm counting Evans. Unless we land Mecole Hardman, no one of them is likely to make a big immediate impact. There's still a reasonable chance that somebody would, though.
I'm less worried about WR than LB. I think there's a good chance that Chesson makes another step forward next year. He's already become a big play threat, just needs to be a consistent weapon. We're going to have plenty of #2 and #3 options.

November 5th, 2015 at 10:14 AM ^
Well we won't have Rudock to kick around any more.
November 5th, 2015 at 10:51 AM ^
Chesson is already a deep threat. Just needs someone to connect with him.

I suspect that Harris' injuries have prevented him from developing the kind of strength and mass he needs to really contribute at the college level. I'd like to see what he can do if he is able to put on another 10 lbs. or so in addition to improving his technique.
November 5th, 2015 at 10:27 AM ^
It's pretty rare for a true frosh to make an immediate impact at wr. Braylon, Desmond, etc. - these guys saw the field and contributed at wr, but based upon their stats they weren't making a huge impact at wr.
November 5th, 2015 at 10:36 AM ^
who saw the field this season might make a nice jump in productivity.
November 5th, 2015 at 10:58 AM ^
All f a sudden, opponents had to think about Michigan throwing the deep pass.
November 5th, 2015 at 5:06 PM ^
But there was one crucial difference: Carter actually had a QB who could get the pass to him reliably and consistently. At that time in '79, Wangler was by far the most effective throwing QB that Bo had ever had.
November 5th, 2015 at 7:49 PM ^
It's hard to make a direct comparison because Paul Staroba is no Anthony Carter, but I think a strong argument can be made for Don Moorhead.

I wouldn't say UM had a bunch of good upperclassmen at wr in 2001. Marquise Walker was a stud but after that it dropped off considerably.
In terms of WR production in 2001, it went:
81 catches, 1043 yds - Walker
19 catches, 207 yds - Calvin Bell
14 catches, 252 yds - Ronald Bellamy
3 catches, 94 yds - Tyrece Butler
3 catches, 38 yds - Braylon
