Ryan Day suggests OSU lost because the team was ill

Submitted by mackbru on December 5th, 2021 at 4:58 PM

The guy who demanded to play despite COVID now says his team endured “significant” illness during the M game, despite the fact that pretty much all his starters played. What a weasel.

"Day says the sickness that was spreading through the team was "significant" during the Michigan game."

So he put sick players on the field to infect our players?

Edit: saw this in the comments...

In the post game Stroud said that he had been sick earlier in the week which caused him to lose his voice during the game.  He did not indicate that he played poorly because of illness.  That's the only player that I heard about being sick.  Fox announcers said OSU was thin at LB because of injuries, no mention of illness.

In any case, wouldn't it be trainer/coaching malpractice to have players on the field suffering from the flu?  Putting aside infecting others, they would be major injuries to themselves just waiting to happen.

Let's go to the video tape:

• Day says the Buckeyes don't want to bring guys in from the transfer portal unless it truly makes sense. ---------> As opposed to the teams that use the transfer portal when it does NOT make sense, "truly" or otherwise.

• On Josh Gattis's comments that Ohio State isn't a tough team, Day says "I don't really think about that much at all." ---------> "I don't think about it" isn't the same as crying-in-your-pillow not "much at all."

• "You can only feel sorry for yourself for so long." ---------> Don't worry, Binky, you can keep feeling sorry for yourself as much as your little heart desires.

• Day says that after the Michigan loss, the "No. 1 thing we recognize" is that the team must be able to run the ball and stop the run. ---------> An OSU has got such a smart coach!

•  Day says the sickness that was spreading through the team was "significant" during the Michigan game. ---------> That explains why they avoided tackling Haskins, to avoid giving him their germs.

• On Michigan, Day says "there were some things in that game that we could've done a lot better." ---------> "some things . . . could've done better" = run, pass, catch, tackle, block, coach.

• Day says he did not watch the Big Ten Championship Game. ---------> His eyeballs still have a cold.

You read that wrong. Ostensibly they had a lot of guys sick the past few weeks. I assume some type of cold/COVID/who knows.

The real question the NCAA should ask is, if "a lot of" OSU players had some sort of infection, why  were all the starters playing last week.

Pretty simple. Despite the coaching the OSU team took The Game for granted. Michigan didn't. The rest is now history, but you're looking at the aftermath of a complete failure of OSU's coaches and the success of ours.

What's he going to say? Besides, I'll bet you 12 to 1 that, in his gut, he thought it would be a walk over too.

Think he was just stating a fact not implying that’s why they lost. Do like that he said they don’t plan on using the transfer portal versus developing their own talent unlike MSU who is using the portal to bring in better players versus coaching their own up. Still think this will turn into a problem for Tucker down the road once recruits realize that he will regularly be looking to replace them.

Because Michigan never fell short in The Game due to some form of malady or injury?  I expected the fragility that the Buckeye fanbase has exhibited this past week faced with the new reality, but I would’ve expected the coach and players to show more grit.

You absorbed one upset in 15 years and you fall to pieces?  What a bunch of pansies.

Ryan Day is a bitch ass, and it reflects on his team. Especially his defense. I don't remember our coaches or team mentioning the fact we were on our third string quarterback in the 2017 game, or the year prior our quarterback playing with a fucking broken collarbone.

By the end of a football season, pretty much every team are dealing with injuries and fatigue, and "illnesses". I don't find our win any less satisfying because a few guys had a fever or a sour stomach. You got beat, Ryan. Just own the L until you have a chance to do something about it next year.

Hey hey hey.  Go easy on the guy.  It can’t be easy knowing another guy down the road has his undefeated team in the playoff and wants Day’s job.

"Day says the Buckeyes still had a chance to win the game during the third quarter."

That's like the 2018-19 games when we had a "chance" to win - i.e., we weren't more than 2 scores down at one point.

Wow - the mighty have fallen even if just once.

“Later that day, Day addressed the team in a meeting, telling the players that Michigan better hope for a mercy rule this year because the Buckeyes are "going to hang 100 excuses on them." Day's comments were first reported by Bucknuts, and confirmed by ESPN on Thursday.”
