Rutgers is Back! (An exercise in Futility)

Ya hate to see it, but didn't see this posted.

Our Rival Rutgers was able to beat Boston College by 1 point yesterday.

Go Knights!

However, they apparently had 1st and goal and ended up punting on that drive.

No Go Knights!

Just when you thought Rutgers had already gone full Rutgers, they Rutger.

I think a 4th and goal punt happened a couple years ago, perhaps in the Illinois / Minnesota game, so it isn't unheard of. That said, 4th and goal from the 43 when they had been as close as the 10 yard line of BC? Yikes.

Screw the cornfield.  Let that game start at 8PM - bring on the full moon and everything Iowa can throw to bring the Kinnick Curse to its worst!  Iowa has nothing.  When your best offensive weapon is the punter, you will not win against teams that have actual players that can play offense.  Their defense won't be better than what they had last year, and that wasn't nearly as good as it needed to be.

Michigan will (probably) score at least 35 that night.  Does anyone here believe that Iowa's offense can keep up with that?

I mean, seriously, does anyone believe Iowa's offense will score more than 17 against Michigan?

Somewhere on the interwebs I saw that act (7 points via a FG and two safeties) being referred to as an Iowa Touchdown. I really hope this becomes a thing.

Also, if “Safety Dance” is not played and danced to at Kinnick following every Iowa safety they’re missing out on a golden opportunity to embrace their identity.

People will look at this score and the box from the game and snicker. But people need to understand South Dakota State is a very good football team. Probably could easily be a top 25 team. I’m glad they are not on our schedule as it’s a no win situation playing a team like that

You do realize that Michigan barely beat Rutgers each of the past two seasons?  Probably should be careful who we deride and just worry about winning the next game on the schedule - Hawaii.

If this game is close, then football season should be declared over.

So far, this Hawaii team looks ten times worse than the Hawaii team we beat 63-3 in 2016.  At least THEY could put up points (the majority of the time) and win 7 games.

This Hawaii squad made Vanderbilt look like Alabama two weeks ago.  They lost 63-10.  You know the last time Vandy scored 60+ points against an opponent?  1969 when they played mighty Davidson.

Hawaii is bad, bad, BAAAAAAD.

Before this BC had beaten Rutgers 11 times straight going back to 1995 or so.  BC was also favored in the game.  I think Rutgers is making real progress under Schiano to win the game despite that weird drive.

This thread has it all.

Stupid topic? Check.

An underdog B1G team winning against a team they hadn’t beaten since 1995 deserves to be mocked?

A comment posted where a blogger admonishes his fellow fans to not overlook a dogshit opponent?  Check.

We don’t play or coach, we’re fans who have 0.0% impact on the outcome.  And our next opponent is the doggiest of digshit bad.

The blog is in midseason form already.  Good work everyone.

Some potential improvements:

1. START JJ (ala Play Morris)

2. Fuck the refs (there were very few whistles, yesterday)

3. We posted “fuck shit” 34 times during the open thread

4. The game is over, I am making a tomahawk wagyu steak on my traeger while drinking three kinds of bourbon of which you’ve never heard.

5.  Baseless speculation about a 3rd string guy who didn’t play today.  Furthermore, that it was definitely due to academics.

Negative.  Tomahawks require a reverse sear.  You smoke'em low and slow until they hit ~115, then pull and wrap them while you bring the grill up to searable temps (~600-700°) (will a Treager get there?) and sear the shit out of both sides for a minute, or so, with a pad of seasoned butter added to each side.  Add more butter after you pull them while they rest for ~10 min.

Perfection...

PS: Any thick cut of meat can be reverse seared nicely, just make sure the cut is at least 1" thick.  Thicker is better...

Louisiana Tech had a rather infamous 4th and goal from their own 10 against Mississippi State a few years ago.  They lost 80+ yards on one play where tons of players weren’t able to secure a bouncing around and sliding backwards football.

Michigan State had a 4th and goal punt when they got whooped by Alabama in that Citrus Bowl about 10 years ago.  Same sort of deal, lost 25-30 yards on a bouncing around fumble they eventually recovered.

in sure there have been others too …..

As for Rutgers - that was a BIG win for them.  No, they aren’t conference title contenders.  But they are getting better.  If I were a RU fan I’d be feeling good these days.

As a Rutgers grad, this was a good and a big win. Iowa and Nebraska look like shit so it's very possible we get to bowl eligibility this year. I know the blog loves to make fun of Rutgers but there are worse teams in the conference in both basketball and football. I mean look at Iowa, they needed 2 safeties to win at home, that's atrocious.

It's just tough sledding in the East.

Am I the only one that thinks the "LOL Rutger" thing is getting played out?  I feel like their athletic department has made some decent moves and they're not really that bad in a lot of sports.  Their basketball program has made the tournament recently, and Schiano is a solid hire in football.

Of the newest additions to the conference, the one that makes the least sense (for everything but nostalgia) is Nebraska.
