Robert Bolden named PSU starting QB
Reports are coming out that Bolden was named the starting qb for PSU... this should not surprise anyone.

No one except those that realize JoePa has never started a true freshman QB...

He still hasn't. JoPa hasn't been in charge there in a while. He's more like the Godfather of PSU football.

Yeah, even the BTN preview basically had him sitting in the shade eating pudding while everyone else practiced.
For the OP: Finally, new information! Thanks for posting.

Bolden...HAHAHAHA...Bolden

Tate Forcier sir, and you Robert Bolden, are no Tate Forcier.

... because I'm surprised. Good for him. Glad to see a local boy succeeding, every week but one, anyway.

It seemed like JoePa's hand was forced. Everything I had read so far seemed to indicate that it was only a matter of time before he turned the offense over to Bolden.

When Newsome decommitted I was bummed. When we picked up Denard and Tate in his place, I was satisfied, but saw it as a an even trade. I'm officially relieved, probably thrilled, with the fact that he left for PSU. That decommit worked out really well for us.

That's a great point. I was also bummed about Shavo Beaver -- and a quick check of the Tulsa football website says that he'll likely see significant playing time as a "Pat White type quarterback" -- but overall I would say we came out way ahead with Tate and Denard.
I have never been this psyched for the season to start.

totally forgot about the Beav!

instead of thinking that shavodrick and newsome were busts, it makes me think that RichRod & Co. are just that good at developing dual threat QBs

I hope he does well. I hope Devin does better, but I hope he does well.

Not really a surprise here. He's raw and will make his share of mistakes.
September 1st, 2010 at 7:08 PM ^
because the QB situation is a mess. Unless Bolden can pick up where he left off in the state championship, he's going to struggle big time in his freshman year.

We dealt with Sheridan/Threet/Feagin... and you feel bad about Bolden/Newsome/McWhateverHisNameIs?
I suggest you sit back, relax, crack a beer, and join in the Schadenfreude.

After the last few years, I don't feel any sort of sypathy for any other school, unless it's actually a tragedy.

dead nuts my feeling.

After everything we have been through with our youth and inexperience, I don't feel sorry for someone else having to face similar struggles.

wow.. can't see it going well for PSU.. their D is still pretty good, but this kid is gonna have some serious issues im sure.

starting 2nd game @ Alabama... gonna be ugly.
September 1st, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
And what if that Bama front seven Branch-Morelli's him outta the game. Then they're right back where they started with Newsome and McWhatsHisName.
This could be very bad for them... hopefully at its worst on or around October 30.

easily

Bolden could be decent by the end of the season. I'm not ready to write off PSU just yet. But it would be nice to see his inexperience show against Michigan.
September 1st, 2010 at 7:28 PM ^
I think Bolden has talent, but he didn't play particularly well against the best defenses in high school. I know St. Mary's offensive line sucked, but, yeah. I think he'll be good eventually, but they will not be a great passing team and will get wrecked by Bama in week 2. I'd bet big money against PSU in that game.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:27 PM ^
Saw him play six games while in high school. He's a talent, but in no way is he ready to be a starting qb at a Big Ten school...let alone Penn State. IMO this says more about the other qb's than it does about him.
September 1st, 2010 at 7:29 PM ^
... that Penn State will be throwing a hell of a lot of rock this year.
September 1st, 2010 at 7:39 PM ^
Anyone going to this game this year cause im thinking about it and woud love to tailgate with some Michigan cats.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
Oh, they'll transition no problem. It's Penn State. No big deal. They'll be fine. All of the analysts seem to think they'll be fine.
September 1st, 2010 at 8:39 PM ^
I think Penn State is in for a rough year. Everyone thinks they're in the top four, but I could easily see them being lower by the end of the year.
September 1st, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
In total agreement. If 2008 taught me anything, its never underestimate the importance of the quarterback position.
September 1st, 2010 at 10:05 PM ^
this could be my favorite schedenfreude of the year. after penn state got so damn smug and cocky over the last 2 years making t-shirts and whatever, i'd love to see them just get steamrolled by bama and then finish near the bottom of the big10
September 1st, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
as predictable as Florida's Tebow Left/ Tebow Right with Royster now.....
September 2nd, 2010 at 6:18 PM ^
Only Michigan's true freshmen QBs are bad.
USC on the other hand, Matt Barkley was like Jesus to them.
Penn State is so overrated this year, they're just going to pound it with Royster and opposing Ds are going to blitz the shit out of him.
