After the last two years, I hope 90%+ of the fan base would be happy with this result.
Still confused as to how PSU is thought of as the third best team in the conference when they could start a true freshman QB. But trying to make the argument that Michigan should be #3 could be a bit greedy.
September 2nd, 2010 at 10:46 AM ^
One word - Defense.
It is very important. They have one, we don't (pending review). End of argument (for now).
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:16 AM ^
They lost a chunk on defense too. Don't get me wrong, they're in a better position to fill gaps than we are but i don't know if there defense will be the dominating force it has been and the question remains if it will be sufficient to overcome their offensive woes.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:18 AM ^
If their defense is not at least decent, they are so totally effed.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:01 AM ^
at 4th best behind OSU, Iowa, and Wisconsin, which I certainly think is fair.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
They're not. This predicts PSU will be the fourth best team. UofM/MSU to be 5th and 6th best. PSU has a great running back, a great defense and while they lost offensive linemen, they players they are replacing them with have been in the program for a while. 4th seems perfectly reasonable for them. I would have predicted us to finish ahead of them before losing Dorsey, Turner and Woolfolk, but as it stands, I would be ecstatic with this finish.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:48 PM ^
They're actually #4 according to this. OSU, Iowa, and Wisconsin are ahead of them.
edit: Too late. I should read the other comments before replying

Getting to a bowl would be great, if its an SEC team I like our chances, we've had good success against that conference in bowl games.
September 2nd, 2010 at 10:45 AM ^
Michigan owns the SEC
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
We haven't seen what RichRod will do with them just yet
September 2nd, 2010 at 10:48 AM ^
BT could go 4-0 and we would still hear the B.S. from the south. Plus OSU as a shit record vs. SEC.

No, 0-9 all time. I have no idea what it is since the BCS started, although clearly it's 0-for-something.

Any reason why we played Vandy so much?
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:12 AM ^
Plus they're the only school in the SEC who could figure out the directions to AA.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:26 PM ^
Michigan played vandy 9 times from 1905-1923, again in 1969, and finally in 2006. Vandy appeared to be a pretty good team back then, with an average 6-2 record in the years the two teams met. Four times, Michigan accounted for Vandy's only loss, and once was Vandy's only blemish in an otherwise perfect season (1922, Vandy was 8-0-1). All data are from CFBDW

I see both OSU and Bama losing two games. Despite their oversigning, I don't think Bama will be able to replace what they lost on defense. That won't be enough in the SEC.
As for OSU, I think the "noble experiment" of trying to turn TP into a prototypical NFL pocket QB will continue to fail. As much as I detest OSU and TP, I think they have enough talent to make it to the NC game. I just don't see how turning one of the better dual threat QB's in the country into a pocket passer, thus nullifying one of his "threats," is going to get the job done. Also, OSU is extremely thin at QB. They have been lucky with TP so far, but they are really just a TP injury away from a four to six-loss year.
I think Nebraska and TCU have as much of a chance of getting into the title game this season as Bama and OSU do.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:22 AM ^
Just so I can mock you later (well, I'll mock you now, too, but I'll be nicer about it), which two games will OSU lose?
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:33 AM ^
I wouldn't be shocked if OSU lost to Miami and then dropped another game (or two) in conference. The machine has been humming really well in Columbus for the past few years, but if Pryor gets hurt, they're going to have some issues.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:37 AM ^
Are we making predictions based on divinations of future injuries? Isn't that slightly disingenuous? I mean, why not say "I predict that Michigan will go 1-10 because David Molk could get hurt against UCONN"? That is to say, it's patently obvious that losing your best player will negatively impact a team's season. I guess I don't understand why you would even bring it up.
That being said, I think OSU is more likely to lose against UW than Miami. Miami's defense consists of Allen Bailey and 10 menacing cardboard cutouts.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:55 AM ^
No, the injury thing was tacked on the end and I should have separated the thoughts. My point was even the best teams will typically stumble once or twice each season and really need things to fall just right to manage an undefeated season. Alabama was a buzzsaw last year, and even they needed the blocked field goal against Tennessee and one or two other relatively fortunate outcomes to get to and win the title game.
OSU is in the great position of being the most talented team on the field 11-13 times a year, so they really shouldn't lose more than one or two games depending on how the breaks go--especially with the excellent job of player development the staff has done in Columbus.
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:12 PM ^
radar with all the osu and iowa love. I got UW > osu this year.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:35 AM ^
Nebraska doesn't have the guns on offense to run the table, and their defense isn't going to be as ridiculous without Suh demolishing double teams. Until they can sustain success, I'm going to treat Nebraska as something of a mirage.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:34 AM ^
no way Iowa makes a bcs bowl
September 2nd, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
frankly, I say move Iowa down to 4th...they lost a lot on Defense, and needed miracles to beat freaking NIU and Arkansas State last year, never mind us and MSU. They were the luckiest team in America in 2009 and Stanzi sucks. They will be 8-4 or 9-3 at best when their luck runs out.
September 2nd, 2010 at 11:36 AM ^
I'll take it!
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:26 PM ^
I think you switch Iowa and Wisconsin, then switch us and PSU, and you're more accurate.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:26 PM ^
I like it. it'd be nice to beat an SEC team. It'd also be nice to watch Jerrod Johnson kill MSU's secondary.
September 2nd, 2010 at 3:07 PM ^
Are you seriously worried about what MSU might do in their bowl? Obsessing?
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:05 PM ^
I'm surprised that Rivals thinks Purdue will be 6th in the conference. People are really loving them some Marve, despite the fact that the defense will be worse, they don't appear to have a running game, and the guy he replaced (Elliott) was one of the better QBs in the league last year and they still finished with a losing record.
September 2nd, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
I believe an 8-4 season is in store for our Maize and Blue this season with a date with Auburn in the Outback bowl
