Rivals: Magnuson is really that good
Per user razor93, a pretty good article on OL commit Eric Magnuson at Rivals:

2. Magnuson is really that good
According to camp position coach Courtney Morgan, Erik Magnuson was the best offensive lineman in attendance and it's really no surprise since the four-star tackle from Carlsbad (Calif.) La Costa Canyon has proven multiple times that he's one of the best in the country.
Magnuson has great footwork, plays with a lot of intensity and passion, and simply doesn't let defensive ends around him. He was really good at the B2G Camp, the Stanford NIKE Camp and the Asante Trenchmen Academy this spring and summer.
In an absolutely loaded group of offensive linemen in the West this recruiting cycle, Magnuson continues to prove he's one of the best.
As some others said in the other thread, great news on our OL commits with the Braden article on Scout earlier.
The '97 team was stacked on oline and dline. Great formula.
You are correct that the '97 D-Line was stacked and awesome. but the O-Line was a different matter. Coming into that season the O-Line was unsettled and we wound up going with young untested players and converted defensive linemen. It worked out pretty well as two of those young players were Backus and Hutch who played well but nothing like they became as upperclassmen.
The '97 team was stacked on oline and dline. Great formula.
And Diamond is a 5 star on Scout, so I'd call it three Five star OL commits if he goes blue. I'm gonna go ahead and say HOLY SHIT. Especially with our other three OL commits probably being solid 4 stars
...unless you're Notre Dame.
Scout or Rivals?
I'm thinking about getting a subscription but can't decide on a site.
from someone who has neither.
Scout has much better midwest recruiting data - Allen Trieu is obviously their main guy for MI, and Sam Webb is affiliated with them. Analysis is much better there. Rivals has a better website layout, but they currently don't have a midwest recruiting analyst.
247sports is just ramping up now, and don't yet have a Michigan site. It wouldn't be worth a subscription w/out M insider info. My guess is Scout would be your best bet. Their free board (Stadium and Main) sometimes has useful info., and the mods are decent.
with MGoBlog because it's cheaper and contains loads of information.
My thoughts exactly. We get most of the information, and we can donate if we want. I love it here, and am willing to pay for it (even though we don't have to) over Scout or Rivals
i try to make a habit of clicking lots of ad links on here. Obviously Brian & Co won't explicitly encourage you to do that but it can be $1 per click and up for sites like this. Click away!
Sometimes I make a point to check this site when I am at other people's houses just to add another IP address. Glad to know I can sate my beveled guilt, to some degree at least, by add clicking.
I have a Rivals and I'm waiting for it to be done and I'll go with Scout unless 247 has a Michigan site up and running
He brought 247sports guy on the show that talked about the site itself and what's coming. King said the 2 schools he gets the most questions about are Michigan and LSU (when will they get 247 sites). The answer was w/in the next year they'll have a M site up and running
How much would you bet that 247 has reached out to Tom?
My heart says no, my head says yes...
If I were to choose I'd pick scout. They seem a lot more concerned with the midwest, although sometimes they are way off with their position projections.
Is that the same Courtney Morgan who played at Michigan?
Go Blue!
Courtney Morgan that is mentoring one of the top guards in the country in Jordan Simmons another 5 star per Scout.
Does anyone know what the news was on Scout about Jordan Diamond. They made it sound like he committed....to someone?
He "committed" to taking a vacation to get away from recruiting for a little while.
Apparently they said he "committed to a vacation in Wisconsin". Set everyone off, saying he committed to Wisconsin. Stupid misleading headline IMO.
He hasn't committed anywhere
I will un-buckle.
the fact that Braden is poised to get a 4th star.
A glimpse of a potential 2016:
An O-line featuring Magnusun, Braden, Kalis, Diamond and Bars, all as seniors, with a Junior Shane Morris under center.
A defense featuring RJS, Bolden and Ross rotating at LB. Wormley, Strobel and Brown at DE.
Add in some of our great DBs, and some DT (soon) and will are going to be stacked.
And this is Hoke's first class. So much potential.
about hokester at first but once he started puting his staff together (mainly mattison) I knew he was legit. I havent been this excited about um football in a while. He gets it. We may not win the big ten, but i think we compete immediately. This is his first full class. Good things to come.
With the recruits that he is bringing in, we are going to be able to out "muscle" the big uglies of the B10 - Wisco, Iowa, OSU, PSU - in a few years. But, it is going to take 3-4 years for this monster class to have a real impact as upper-classmen. Not saying that we will not be good during the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons - we should be VERY good - but I think that the real dividends will come in Hoke's 4th season - 2014.
he could be taylor lewan-like and start earlier than expected. He is only gonna get bigger and he's got all the tools.
Lewan-like possibly. Starting early not so much. Count Magnuson in the group of o-linemen who probably need a redshirt year upon arriving. And Lewan/Schofield would still have a year of eligbility after his redshirt year. He'll definitely have a shot at stepping in to the lineup as a RS Soph.
the most exciting June ever!
You start any rebuilding with both lines!
I love that Hoke is doing just that.
Badass O & D lines make everyone better with a side effect of skill players wanting to go to there. I'm sure we will see a great Skill Player class for 2013 if UM reels in a 4/5* DL/OL.
IMHO if I were to start a team the premium would be on both lines followed by QB, DB's, WR, RB, LB's in that order. Great lines make RB's and LB's. Probably preaching to the choir.
***Steps down from soap box and return to seated position and re-fasten seat belt***
I believe Zach Banner was also there, and the Rivals guys still thought Magnuson was better. Although they did mention Banner needs to work more on technique, which is probably easier to improve than some things (like size which Scout likes to use all the time). Nonetheless, Magnuson is a great pickup and hopefully will be a star for us one day.
