So far Dawson has looked dominant. Fox has looked slow against the speed rush. Jake Raulerson will definitely pass him in the Rivals position rankings soon.
and I hate to be the bearer of bad news but he looked lost against the top speed rushers getting turnerd around easily and on one rep was even pushed back into the qb with apparent ease. He's just not used to the level of talent compiled in Atlanta today. I'm sure he'll look better tomorrow.
Do we have to do this? I think everyone is aware that camp outings have little to do with performance during an 11 man game of football. Nonetheless, it's interesting to see how our guys do. Take it for what it's worth... or don't. I'm just reporting on his performance today, not making prophecy about what it means for the team.
It looks like I read into what he actually said but when I was responding I felt like his use of "worry" and comment about his projection in college put words in my mouth. Wanted to make it clear that all the usual caveats apply (dl-oriented drills, lack of pads, etc) yet Dawson looked great and Fox didn't.
Even if he does end up at tackle, a few years with Mr. Funk will have his technique greatly improved.
David Dawson will pass Khaliel Rodgers in the new re-rank. If this does not happen, I will call shenanigans.
Why do we think that this one camp will change rankings? Is that a stated objective of the camp? Just curious because given how little previous camps have impacted most rankings, you might be setting yourself up for some angst.
Not to mention this is only the first afternoon of a 2 day camp.
This is an assumption but outside of game film I think this will factor into their rankings more than anything else. How many other camps draw in the very upper echelon of recruits and how many Rivals analysts will be at those other camps sponsored by their rivals.... and angst is out of the question. Nothing could temper my excitement to see Dawson's mean streak in the big house. I do want to see our recruits beat out Ohio-bound and SEC-bound recruits whenever possible.
Rivals does change their rankings for athletes based on performances at sponsored events they follow. Pee Wee last year went from a Rivals 3 star, to a low 4 star, to a 5 star top national prospect based solely on his performance at the Army All American Bowl last year.
Odds are he'll redshirt and won't participate in a game until he's a Soph at the earliest ( and that's wishful thinking). Whatever he is or isn't doing just doesn't amount to a hill of beans right now. Might as just stop posting about how kids are doing in camp and go back to posting what type of alcohol you are going to be puking up tonight! :P
Fox won at least half his reps which isn't that bad considering the event has only elite players from across the nation. Also considering the small sample size of reps and that the camera was so far away the players looked like ants, it is really hard to draw too many conclusions.
I think I will wait until the event is over and hear from some of the analysts who saw it up close and personal.
I may have even mistaked Fox for someone else. There wasn't always commentary. I am sure I watched him lose his last three reps though. Again, take it for what it's worth. I saw it and now I'm writing it down. I have no opinion on it besides how it may affect his #4 tackle ranking with the paid analysts who were there to study the camp and make a big deal of it's results. The analysts who were mic'd up had the exact same things to say....
He doesn't look out of place against some of the best. Raulerson and Dawson are going to dominate camp events like this because they are a lot lighter than players like Fox. How he looks in pads during his senior season and the all star games (All American Bowl) will have a much greater impact on his final ranking than this camp will.
And in the grand scheme of things, will anyone really care if he was the #4 OT or the #12 OT? Only thing people will remember is that he was a 4 star. Can you tell me where Erik Magnuson was ranked last year off the top of your head?
You don't have to watch the stream or read comments about it man. If you don't care about camps, rankings, etc why waste your time?
Why are you getting so defensive? Everyone is just sharing their take on things. Don't take it so personally.
Put more stock in the evaluation of other coaches than I do on recruiting analysts. With the offers he has, I doubt he would ever drop that far but I still wouldn't be too concerned if he did.
I was thinking about #8-12 OT.
Treadwell, Lewis or McCray? Lewis tweeted he did not get many reps. I couldn't pick any of them out and they weren't mentioned in the commentary.
And I'm not surprised. It was an extremely hard event to watch online, and it seems like they had only one field to work on which would make it extremely difficult to get a lot of reps.
Someone feels strongly that my comments on this topic should not be seen. I guess I should put on Maize & Blue glasses next time I muster the audacity to have an opinion.
internet tough guys... don't take it too serious
Quit bitching about people not liking your post.
I think different people have different explanations for what being beaten or not is. Whether it's delaying the guy for so many seconds or forcing him too far to the outside or what have you.
Fox won his share and looks decent moving his feet and staying in front of DL & punching while keeping hands inside the frame. Everyone is going to lose their share of reps in a drill like this especially when going agains the best competition. Not sure how all this handwringing started.

Jourdan Lewis with what apparently was an "unreal" pick off of Tyrone Swoopes (Texas commit)
Just saw a tweet about the SE v. NE game. Apparently, Fuller is getting no action which would mean Lewis and Woodard are the ones giving up TDs. No specifics given, though.
Was only watching it in the background while doing some work, but actually think the answer is neither. The RBs and TEs made some plays and the safeties have to play some coverage in this kind of format, but overall the defense looked OK.
PSU QB Hackenberg threw like 5 INTs so that is where most of the damage was done (although he had looked fantastic prior to this). INTs count for about 3 points I think.
I had heard the RBs and TEs were doing well but I was baffled that Jaylon Smith could be giving up space, he's a beast in coverage at these events. I think Lewis/Fuller/Woodard are so impressive as a tandem that after their domination in game 1, SE had to strategize around them to win. Says good things about B1G future when guys like Lewis/Hackenberg/Woodard/Marshall have big days, which it sounds like they are all doing, at least at times.
Jalen Ramsey, Marcell Harris, & Leon McQuay III were outstanding in that game.
