He really looked rough during the Masters this year hoped he'd pull through. Truly a larger than life person

September 25th, 2016 at 8:41 PM ^
Wow just a sad day
September 25th, 2016 at 8:42 PM ^
I had one of those yesterday.
Should have poured some out for one of the greatest.
September 25th, 2016 at 8:43 PM ^
RIP. We'll all raise a glas of iced tea and lemonade tonight.
September 25th, 2016 at 8:45 PM ^
The Simpsons new season episode makes a specific joke referencing Arnold Palmer - it aired tonight.
September 25th, 2016 at 8:51 PM ^
They were reffering to the drink
September 25th, 2016 at 8:56 PM ^
Wonder how it got its name.

And what loser still watches the simpsons?
September 25th, 2016 at 9:11 PM ^
Iced Tea and Lemonade as I drink this.
The man led a great life. Here's to a hole-in-one on the big course in the sky tonight for him.
September 26th, 2016 at 1:34 AM ^
I was just thinking he was going to be funny in the obvious follow up to the Ice-T/lemonade commercial.
Raising the glass with a splash of vodka.

The King! RIP

A John Daly.
September 25th, 2016 at 10:36 PM ^
I really tried hard back about 10 years ago to get the Arnold Palmer with vodka to be called a Laura Baugh. She was a pro golfer who carried vodka in her bag so her caddie could add it to her coffee or coke. But, John Daly was a more popular drunk at the time so his name prevailed. It's a fabulous drink whatever you call it.
As for Arnie himself, I will miss him. He was a consummately nice man outside the ropes, much like Bo was off the field. Fiery competitor. Brute force kind of guy. FYI, a major league woman hound as well. Just sayin what I've heard.
September 25th, 2016 at 8:47 PM ^
RIP to a true legend. Always classy.
September 25th, 2016 at 8:49 PM ^
A true legend in every respect. RIP Arnie.

Well we had a relatively quiet summer and then 2016 realized it didn't have much time left and decided to start swinging again. Arnie was certainly one of the true gentlemen.

Golf Hero. Met him twice. A legend that has no equal.
September 25th, 2016 at 8:56 PM ^
I met Arnold Palmer at a golf tournament in Virginia back around 1995 or 1996. He was in a golf cart, and a group of us were nearby. He motioned for us to come over, so we went over, shook his hand, and chatted for a bit. True gentleman.
News of this saddens me. The world has precious few good men like him. We now have one less.
September 25th, 2016 at 8:56 PM ^
Gonna pour one out tonight.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:12 PM ^
Golf is the greatest game. He helped make it so.
September 25th, 2016 at 8:58 PM ^
Yeah, I share the sentiments of the OP - 2016 can throw in the towel any moment now. So many people of note seem to be passing, and now sadly Arnold Palmer is added to that list.
RIP "The King" - on the course and off it, always classy and forever a legend.

What a rough year for sports icons

So bummed. Class act his whole life. Don't make them like him anymore...
RIP Arnie
September 25th, 2016 at 9:08 PM ^
Without him, my slice wouldn't exist.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:09 PM ^
He was instrumental in making pro golf the big-money spectacle it has become. Seemed a truly class act. RIP, Arnie.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:12 PM ^
Horrible news. So sad.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:22 PM ^
Just Damn It.
Rory won a big title today. Now he will always know it was more than special. Forever tied to Arnie.
RIP Arnie.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:24 PM ^
Maybe not the greatest but definitely a top 5 all-time golfer. Probably the most beloved, though, as Arnie was a true ambassador of the sport for decades.
RIP to a great King, a King who preferred to mingle with his Army rather than rule from a throne. We're gonna miss you, Arnie!
September 25th, 2016 at 11:37 PM ^
Not the greatest but he is the reason a golfer can shoot level par over a year and earn $5MM.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:24 PM ^
I was shocked to hear this news. He is/was/will always be an amazing person that positively affected the lives of many. He will be missed. RIP Arnie
September 25th, 2016 at 9:27 PM ^
Some players will be compared to him, but he broke the mold.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:29 PM ^
Palmer was my parents' favorite. And the most refreshing drink I've ever had in my life was after a disaster of a round on a hot summer day at a course in Wisconsin, an Arnold Palmer.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:29 PM ^
A part of golf history gone. Looked for story on ESPN website. Nothing!!???
September 25th, 2016 at 9:33 PM ^
ABC News website (same parent company, Disney) has it on their website, so I wonder why the delay on a sports site. Especially consider it's the "Worldwide Leader".
September 25th, 2016 at 9:38 PM ^
answered every request for an autograph that was mailed to him spending north of $100k a year just on postage. He also wrote his name carefully because he belived that if a fan wanted his autograph, he deserved to get one that can be read.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:40 PM ^
My Dad was a huge fan. When I was a little kid he'd tell me Arnold Palmer stories.
September 25th, 2016 at 9:52 PM ^
Just can't take today anymore...
RIP Arnie. Forever remembered.

for me he was one of reasons I had a passion in playing golf, him, Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan were the golfers that got me interested in the game.
September 25th, 2016 at 10:00 PM ^
Jack may be considered golf's greatest champion, Arnie was golf's greatest gentleman.
September 25th, 2016 at 10:01 PM ^
Great player and apparently a better person.
