Per Request- thread about how our bball team has grown
As requested in the game thread, here is one more post about how much our team has grown.
They could have tapped out. They could have crapped down their leg. They could have lost their shit about the damn ref show. They still might.
But, they fought hard till the end of regulation, through the unbelievably poor reffing, and were rewarded with a tie in regulation.
Keep it up in OT and maybe, just maybe.

I like that part too. It’s just surprising that a thread celebrating the team’s progression has to include the refs. The game thread is also very ref focused. Refs suck, everyone knows it. Every fan base knows it. Everyone from every sport at every age knows it. It doesn’t need to be mentioned every 2 seconds.

When you're down one with 10 seconds left and your star guard gets hit in the head on a drive, no call, you have a right to bitch.
Thankfully we got a miracle 3 on the next possession. That was a horrible no-call that would have had huge consequences.

But the whole point of bringing up that play was to point out that bitching is more justified in certain circumstances. The game was a ref show and then they swallow the whistle on a must-score play? Yeah, that’s bad, and bad reffing should be called out.

It is generally unnecessary to complain about the reffing but I will join in. Whistle blowing should decrease at the end of the game but it should not be totally absent. There are teams out there get down right abusive in the last few minutes and some refs still won't blow the whistle.

Refs mentioned he got ball first so "..."
I assumed that meant by rule it should be a foul, but by practical sense wouldn't be called so. What's the actual rule?

Lavin was ridiculously wrong with that little comment, but he was off all game. Beating Wisconsin, the refs, and Lavin was a true pleasure, indeed!

I think it was Lappas, but they’re not that different. The play by play guy called Crisler “Breslin.” That’s a fire-able comment IMO.

I just rewatched it. He didn't get any ball, he just raked Bufkin across the head. Lavin is blind if he thought it was a block.
It's 100% a foul, not disputable at all.

True, Lavin was fairly blind the whole game. At times it felt like he was just trying to keep talking without even considering what he was saying.
I only watched the 2nd half, but I too thought the refs were fairly bad today and probably owed us a couple make up calls that we never got.

The one replay I saw of the hat play did not show the head shot, and I was specifically looking for it. At most, it looked like it grazed his hair, no big head or neck movement as the arm passed by

I also think the refs could've called us for a 5 second violation on the inbounds pass to HD that eventually tied the game. It took at least 5 seconds to get the ball in. We were on the losing end of some bad ref calls in the second half. But that 5-second non-call struck some balance.

I do apologize for the “refs show” distraction. The whole post was a bit of sarcastic snark. I prefer to root till the bitter end, like we want our team to play. So I get a bit bent out of shape with the “quitters” whining the game is over before it actually is, even if I fully get the sentiment.
I wasn’t able to watch the full game. I didn’t see the equality of shitty calls. I saw multiple ticky-tack calls go against MI as well as the biased announcing coupled with obvious arm hack no-calls.
The Dickinson hack that went OB and the announcers not even mentioning it but instead actively stating it was clearly WI ball. Put me over the edge then the slap in the head on the layup made me lose my shit.
The three pointer was sweet “Ball don’t lie” justice. Felt so damn good for the boys to fight through and win. They deserve to celebrate. And so so we!

Being a referee is an extremely difficult thing to do. I believe 5-10% out here truly understand how hard their job is. They are human. They make mistakes. And sure, their are some biased/crooked ones. But for the most part, they have an extremely difficult job, and most do a very good job at it. I would be a horrible referee.

It's amazing to me you can watch an improbably, magically euphoric must-win OT thriller and come out of it criticizing the team and players. 6-2 down the stretch and closing out close games - THAT"S how the team has improved.

Hopefully Juwan has seen the last couple of games the recipe to win. Hunter/Kobe the drivers. Let Jett/Duggy add that next wave, Joey as well. Jett needs to play D and take good shots to get playing time. Important Jett knows his role and Juwan coaches to it. This team is Hunters/Kobe. Duggy/Jett could be great secondary pieces.
