MSU gets a high quality local athlete every few cycles.  They go on to a mediocre college career, and fizzle out.

They may not always be perfect citizens, but guys like Charles Rodgers, William Gholston, Malik McDowell,  Leveon Bell, Connor Cook, Jack Conklin, Jack Allen, Shalique Calhoun, Raequan Williams, Jerel Worthy, Max Bullough, Joe Bachie, Kurtis Drummond, Darqueze Dennard, Trae Waynes, Aaron Burbridge, etc. were quite productive.

The kid is talented and I'd LOVE if he flipped, don't get me wrong. But NG is far more valuable than another DT. We have a number of DTs and we literally have ONE true nose guard on the roster (Mazi Smith).

Give me a transfer NG over Benny and then give me another or the kid committed to Colorado that seems like a future NG.

msu basketball is a fucking joke.

An absolute fucking blowout is about to come against iowa.

So it's time for them to focus on this.

Definitely not gonna bash their POS sexual assault covering up coach.

At this point, this topic doesn't even relate to Michigan. The posts where there was a thought he might come here, fine. But it's pretty well established that he's not coming here. I say let it go.

Not that this bit of “news” is any more shocking than McCaffrey going to Northern Colorado, but if you’re going to reference a Det News article maybe you should post the link.

I personally don't care whether Rayshaun Benny is excited to go to MSU or excited to go to the bathroom. He ain't coming here, so let's move along, shall we?

It's not over until it is over. Michigan has need for the talents of a player of Benny's abilities. I certainly hope that Macdonald and Linguist have made good effort to "flip" Rayshaun.

Sadly, this is over and has been over for some time. The spartan buddies of mine feed me good information from their insiders. Apparently MSU insiders reached out to  Holland to see where he is getting his info from that Benny was a 50/50 flip candidate. He never responded. So it seems he could be generating false buzz for subscriptions and clicks? Who knows.

I could be way off base, but just given reputation and demographics of the two universities I could see how a black football player from Oak Park would feel more comfortable at MSU than at UM.  I don't know much about Benny beyond he's a high level DT recruit from MI that goes to Oak Park.  I don't know anything about his family, their income, the neighborhood they live in, the education of his parents, etc.  So, maybe his background is more like Grant Hill and less like Jabrill Peppers.  But, I can see how many football players that don't fit the same academic mold as non-athletes might feel a bit more out of place at places like UM or ND than MSU.

People still think football academics are the same as the school's academics.  They aren't, the bulk of our football players are in general studies or undeclared majors.  For many classes, they aren't even in a classroom with the rest of the student body.

As far as African American players, we have several black coaches too, but I guess MSU has a black head coach and several other black coaches. There's only a hand full of black head coaches in Power 5, that will probably pay some recruiting dividends for MSU.

All Big Ten schools save for Northwestern only require athletes to meet the NCAA Clearinghouse standard to be eligible.  A great many threads have been spent on this, but no one can talk specifics because there aren't any, it's the NCAA clearinghouse unless someone can find real proof it's not.

That being said, all B1G schools have football players who aren't really able to do the school work, but they still remain eligible.

I think you're being a bit unfair here. Yes, a lot of them are in general studies or sport management. But as a graduate in Sport Management myself, I can attest to several athletes who were fantastic and put in just as much effort if not more than than other students.

Mo Hurst was a freaking TA for one of my classes. Not many schools have star players who are TA's

Some people are just different too. We obviously think UM is the better choice than MSU. He feels MSU is the better choice than UM. Will he second guess his decision one day? Maybe. But he has grown up watching MSU dominate the rivalry and be far more relevant in the perspective of winning bowl games and obtaining hardware. That is something that should not be forgotten. He doesn't remember the Carr years and winning big games. These recruits now remember a UM that fielded Rich Rod teams and Hoke teams. With Harbaugh bringing some spark back to the program. This is what they have seen and know.

This fanbase is so funny...if the article stated that he was leaning Michigan, the same idiots here would be singing his praises. Fact is, Benny is a great prospect and we would be lucky to have him. Props to State for being able to keep him. This is a big head to head loss for us IMO.
