Ravens hiring Ryan Osborn
The Baltimore Ravens are expected to hire Michigan analyst Ryan Osborn to their defensive coaching staff, sources tell @on3sports.

Osborn, who has also worked at Mississippi State, Florida and UT Martin, assisted with Michigan’s defensive line group.https://t.co/k5bN5NhJoE

Stop it John!!!
February 4th, 2022 at 4:36 PM ^
This! He got the Super Bowl win, what gives?
February 4th, 2022 at 5:01 PM ^
Well, Osborn was out the door anyway, but no kidding. :) I guess it was probably a solid for Ryan so good for him. Something was up when he never took the position he was supposedly previously leaving us for at UConn. I wonder if all of this was cooking that far back?!?

I'm sure Jim and John arranged this so he had a nice landing spot. Didn't seem to me like we wanted to let him go, but only so many permitted coaches, and you want the very best.

What a fantastic advantage for the two, utilize each others programs as "partners" in developing and assessing coaches. Maybe Jim can get his next DC from the Ravens.

I would bet he was told he was too good for the UConn job.
February 4th, 2022 at 10:36 PM ^
Hey, um, sorry, but you’re talented and we’re planning on losing to UMass.

It feels like an interest payment for the year we had Mcdonald.
February 5th, 2022 at 7:22 AM ^
Perfectly stated- feels like the bill for the McDonald trade is finally being settled.
Seemed like Osborn was one of those “doing too well to keep on as just an analyst” guys, and frankly I was expecting him to leave after the Elston hire. Good to keep him in the family though, wouldn’t be surprised if we saw him back on our staff someday.
February 4th, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
Ah, the infamous “coach to be named later” in the MacDonald trade. I guess this means we get Oz back next year.
February 4th, 2022 at 4:40 PM ^
It was clear that he will be leaving when he did not get the DL job.
February 5th, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
I thought they'd make him EDGE coach.
Rare coach.
February 4th, 2022 at 4:41 PM ^
Not a surprise...he wasn't going to stay an analyst. Good for him. I can't wait to see who JH hires as DC. They have a lot to live up to after Mac. We also have an absolute stud D-line coach so all is good.

Are John and Jim on bad terms all the sudden? Like, did Jim bring John a thrice-regifted fruit cake over Christmas, and then run over his dog while leaving his house???
February 4th, 2022 at 5:16 PM ^
Jim probably won the family Christmas one on one basketball tourney, when the dog was crushed by John after Jim “blocked” his layup for the final play.

Jim is likely the one who arranged this for Osborne.
February 4th, 2022 at 6:04 PM ^
Well, I guess we all know who won the Feats of Strength, this past Festivus.
February 4th, 2022 at 7:05 PM ^
John is a politically incorrect "IG".
February 4th, 2022 at 4:50 PM ^
Let's just become a franchise of the Ravens at this point... as long as it keeps us winning.
February 4th, 2022 at 4:51 PM ^
I feel like we're children in the middle of a bad divorce with parents fighting over who gets the dog.
February 4th, 2022 at 6:00 PM ^
It's surprising to me that anyone looks at it this way, but I guess it shouldn't after the past six weeks on here...
February 5th, 2022 at 11:43 AM ^
Yeah I don’t get that framing of it. If I were Jim, and I worked with a young analyst I like but who I could not hire as a coach, I would use my connections to help him out. And if I had a brother in the NFL, I would consider that a pretty good connection.

John giveth , John taketh more
February 4th, 2022 at 4:56 PM ^
Can Osborn continue to not recruit and not coach for us just like in 2021?
February 4th, 2022 at 5:01 PM ^
Hey, at least he stays in the family.
Elston hire was a big time move but Osborn moving on was an inevitable result. Good analyst gets rewarded and they don’t have to recruit against him.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:17 PM ^
This is all becoming a little bit incestuous.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
I’m going to miss seeing that big fluffy beard on the sidelines. Best of luck to him.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:20 PM ^
This is actually good. Osborn will get some experience under John, only to be hired by Jim in a few years when Jim needs another awesome DC.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:24 PM ^
Looking at the bright side* Matt f-ing Weiss is still available for the Vikings to poach.
*see what I did there?
February 4th, 2022 at 5:45 PM ^
It’s obvious what’s going on here. The Ravens will “draft” high school players and assign them to Michigan, paying the players a healthy NIL stipend. Jim develops them so they’re ready for the Ravens’ system and John drafts them a few years later.

Guess that means elston wont be dc. Unless they hire an olb coach, then he still has a path.
February 4th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
Good for him. Best wishes.

Talking about pro football, looks like Roger Goodell is taking action based on the events that happened last week in L.A.

C'mon, John Harbaugh!
Back. Off. Dude.
February 4th, 2022 at 9:21 PM ^
The price we pay for a 1 year rental of a defensive coordinator.
February 4th, 2022 at 11:13 PM ^
John Harbaugh is really beginning to PISS ME OFF!
February 5th, 2022 at 12:05 AM ^
I'm keeping score, and John owes Jim now.
February 5th, 2022 at 1:38 PM ^
I don't think he's going to be able to pay this one back.
February 5th, 2022 at 1:37 PM ^
Mike Macdonald knew a great coach when he saw one.
