Rashan Gary in Car with team mates and weed

On ESPN there is an article confirming 3 Green Bay Packer pulled over for speeding and something else “Green” was in the car with them. It’s not legal in Wisconsin.....yet.

According to incident reports from the sheriff's office obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Smith and teammates Rashan Gary and Kingsley Keke were returning from a trip to Chicago when they were stopped for going 81 mph in a 60 mph zone. The officer who stopped them smelled marijuana and told the three men to get out of the car. They were briefly handcuffed.

According to the records, none of the men appeared to be high, and no marijuana was found on any of the men. The car was searched, however, and a duffel in the trunk was found to contain three hollowed-out cigars containing marijuana and a vaping device. Smith, who was the driver, took responsibility. The three were released after he was cited.

If your employer has a policy against using marijuana and it's still illegal in your state, then yeah, tsk tsk. And it's not so much smoking pot as it is violating laws and policies (edit: and getting caught) as outdated as they may seem.

I get it, people smoke pot. It's legal in many states. That doesn't change the fact that it's not legal everywhere or at a federal level (yet) and that the NFL (and many employers, in fact) still have drug policies which include marijuana.

When an employer has a huge public image, if they think it is better for business to not have players smoking weed, that’s their choice.

When you have one potential employer for you job, violating their rules is a stupid move.

That being said, weed should be legal. Until then, NFL players should be smart enough to travel with one non-player friend that is willing to take the charge and be compensated well by their buddies for doing so.

LMAO...in representative democracies, we elect people who pass laws. If you don’t like the law, elect new people. Disregarding the law is a bad idea. I wouldn’t tell people that in the real world. They’ll form an opinion that you’re a dumbass

Agreed.

If you like to smoke the stuff (stupid habit if you ask me, but anyway...), then don't work somewhere where they require you to not use it as part of your contract.  If you break the contract, you get what you deserve. If you think it's a stupid part of your contract, then you have the obligation to try to renegotiate the contract instead of just breaking it.  You can't break a contract just because you don't like it. Otherwise, laws and contracts mean nothing.

Thats where you wrong friendo. Smelling weed allows for an officer to search the vehicle to find that illegal substance. The officer is allowed to search that vehicle wherever that substance could be stored. I dont really care about weed personally but that officer has a job to do and has full legal authority to detain them if he feels there is crime afoot. He didnt and they were let go and a citation was issued. No big deal just pay the fine and move on.
