Questions for Beilein and Livers

Submitted by Seth on March 9th, 2023 at 8:59 PM

MICHIGAN NIGHT AT THE PISTONS is this Saturday, March 11th versus the Pacers. It comes with a nice quarter-zip.

Also there WILL be a Q&A with Livers and Beilein after the game. The Pistons have given us permission to come up with some questions to sprinkle in and keep the Q&A interesting. Feel free to put them in this thread, and I'll collect and pass them on.

I'll be in Section 214.

How do you navigate a team playing better without one of its overall more talented players - who in small sample size happens to make for poorer team play and potentially chemistry?

what qualities (basketball skill and mentality) do you look for in 1-and-dones

what qualities (basketball skill and mentality) do you want to see in 4-year players?

which would you rather coach?

For coach B:  When you were coaching in college what were the top 3 things you looked for in a recruit?   If you were building a roster for an NBA team, would those three things be different?

For Livers: was there anything that you learned at Michigan that helped prepare you for the NBA more so than players from other schools?

Did Warde Manuel do ANYTHING to try to get you to stay when you let him know the Cavs were interested in you?

Who was your favorite player to coach at Michigan?

What was your favorite Big Ten win?

Who was the recruit that exceeded your expectations the most?

For Coach B: Since he's never been an assistant, would he consider coming to Michigan as an assistant to Coach Howard? I don't know how hard it would be to make that transition but if anyone can do it it's Beilein.

For Livers: What's been the hardest part transitioning to the NBA? I've watched a lot of Pistons basketball this year and they're god awful but you can see the start of something blossoming and I believe Livers has a place there.

Sorry for the run on sentences.

Ask Isaiah if he's willing to come back next year. We'll change his name to, oh, I dunno, Kidneys. Yeah. And say he's older because he's been out of the country on a mission. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Someone ask Livers if he can ever stay healthy? Great player that can’t handle the weight and pounding on his body

For Livers: You don't happen to have a thing for older women, do you?

Asking for the MGoGirlfriend, who's been an ardent fan of "her Isaiah" since that last tournament run, when he was injured but was still cheering on his teammates from the bench. "That's leadership," she says, "and the fact that he's adorable doesn't hurt."

Considering the state of college basketball, and especially college basketball recruiting (NIL, etc), are their still two viable models to building sustainable winning programs--namely, (1) identify non-NBA types and develop skilled teams over time (lots of seniors, lots of in-program player development), versus (2) successfully recruit enough high-talent ("one-and-dones") and focus on year-to-year team-building (that is, get stars to play sufficiently as a team to win), with "player development" focusing on "preparing for the NBA"--or are one or both of these models no longer viable? Are there other models?
